Thanks for staying batshit insane, Nintendo.

I love how your contributions to this are someone elses comments.

And yes Sony does make shitty hardware, I've got a PS and a PS2 both are crapping out - great software, shit hardware.

what? this thread turned to jokes pretty much :\ and interesting, Skaw.. your saying that VG Cats is unfunny yet they recieve so many hits D: zomg!

You either got shit for luck with the PS2 you got :\ or you are just listening to others that prolly take care of their system like crap ><

shut up elemmire. every console takes craps, your blessed ps2 is no different. i've been through 3, yes 3 ps2s since they came out. i am on my third one, and it doesnt play discs, only the harddrive works now.

My brother is on his second ps2, my best friend is on his second, etc. Some ps2s that i have had the pleasure of playing on have held up real well, my friend has one that has been going strong for 4 years and has seen abuse like no other ps2 has seen ever. Its just a matter like ANY electronic device that for some ungodly reason or another it will break or it wont.

Your stupid argument is such bullshit and you're only trying to save face at this point. I know you rub your cunt against your ps2 every night you love so much but you have no right to talk the amount of shit that you do just because you don't like a gaming system. Seriously girl just get over it and shut up and let people talk about teh system. If you don't fucking like it then go spank yourself with your PSMagazine and quit sticking your nose out in what could have been a completely decent argument about a console but ended up a bitter battle of zomgnintendosucksps2cock because of a retarted flame over how her royal pain in the ass thinks one console is superior.

shhhh little girl, get out of the big kids room and go back to your ffvii action figures.

I have the same PS2 I recieved on relase date myself and the same 2 controllers, memory cards, and cables...They are all in tip top shape working fine no problems and never had one including disc reading errors. I highly doubt I'm just a lucky guy that got one of a few good, sturdy, and trusty PS2's and its components. Matter of fact all my friends that recieved theirs on the pre-order release day still have theirs and they ALL still work and have had no problems. Just my experiance with them though. I think they make the best hardware and software of any system on the market. Nintendo lacks and has severly lacked in game quality and quantity for a long time. They had what... one big release set for this year? Even it isn't out yet and wont be until 06'. Likewise they have sturdy hardware just not enough in the games quality or quantity section to make them as appealing as they use to be, to me at least and obviously many others. They need a savior and they need the Revolution to be it but I'm not putting any money on them. I feel another "Dreamcast", if you will, on our horizon.

wow.. you sure are special, Panda. I don't know what bug crawled up your ass but you prolly didn't even read the 14 pages huh? Considering I'm not the only one that has had their PS2 since day 1 and it runs just fine.. I think maybe you didn't take care of your PS2 that well. You think that some people just got "lucky"? Bullshit. They are mass produced by machines. They are all identical. The fact you say people got "lucky" is complete bullshit. You and your friend either didn't take care of it or you put it in a place that wasn't so smart which, again, is not taking care of it.

Perhaps if you read the rest of the thread you would notice that I agreed that the GameCube is more advanced than the PS2 atleast (I think X-Box too but I could be wrong). However, the gaming selection is rather lacking not to mention a great majority of the games are lacking on the quality level, as Strid and others have felt too.

However.. I guess that doesn't matter to you cause you don't wanna actually argue, instead you'd rather come in.. quote one thing.. say I'm stupid cause your system that is identical to mine didn't last and you are too perfect so you must not be the fault of why your system broke several times and that you are also so perfect that you have perfect friends that couldn't possibly be at fault for their broken systems. Then you go on to insult me saying I do shit that is obviously complete bullshit and with obviously no proof. And so many times these people that just wanna talk about the system seem to like to go into the "zomg itz teh bestest system eva and teh oters r totly weak!". You can't deny that no Nintendo system before has been backwards compatible (except the handheld systems), nor can you deny that Nintendo has a sng come out than I won't buy it. However, I still think PSP is better than the DS in terms of the technology behind it and that it, so far, has more games for it that are better.

Basically Panda.. how about reading the entire thread instead of coming in and trying to look cool by insulting people that are making arguements that they put more than 2 minutes of thought into.. cause you obviously did that huh? Took more than 2 minutes to put together an arguement?

If you asked anyone who isn't biased on the subject, in terms of technology, the PSP is way better than the DS. Also, no matter what a Nintendo fanboy tells you, the DS technology is extremely outdated and overpriced. But you'd have to ask a tech-savvy person to hear that - say that around a rabid fanboy and prepare to be flamed. Look at it this way... the PSP is a 2005 Ford Mustang GT that a company is selling for the current going price and the DS is a 1991 Ford Mustang LX that a company is selling for $5,000.

Note to the tards out there: Overpriced != Expensive

Actualy, the average person with a nintendo console didnt buy it for themselves, thier parents, or someone else bought it as a present because it A) cost less than the other consoles, or B) the recipiant is a younger gamer (12 or younger) and the average game on the Nintendo consoles cater to that age group.

The PS2 on the other hand, those who own it tend to have either asked thier parents specificly for it, or purchased it themselves. The games cater to an older (15 and up) audicence, and require longer attention spans generaly.

The same holds true to the DS and PSP. Parents buy thier kids a DS, or an SP, for christmas/birthday gifts, Generaly as a surprise, or if the child asked for a "gameboy" to play at school. The price on the PSP deters parents from getting it as a gift, unless the recipiant specificly asked for it, and even then, not always.

I dont know anyone with a PSP who got it without knowing in advance, or buying it themselves. The same does not hold true with the DS.

Also, to the comment about the durability of the PS2. I'm also on my first and only PS2 since launch, and it works "almost" perfect. It sometimes has trouble reading DVDs that have scratches on them, but i chalk that up to the improper care i gave it when i first got it (its fallen off the table a number of times, before i moved it into the drawer beneath my TV)
Also, the only thing wrong with my PSX is that the little black thing that holds the CD in place is a little loose, causing the disc to have trouble getting up to speed.
Duno how you take care of your system Panda, but it sure as hell cant be good. you running it underwater or somthing?

Console history:

I blew up a GC . . . but that wasn't the cube's fault, it was a faulty AV Box

I've ratched a good share of PS2 Controllers just from wear and tear.

My PS2 is showing its age (reset button is almost dead) but I've had it for a good 3 years and I'm surprised it hasn't busted yet.

XBox . . . AOK

Saddest of all is the power unit on my DC going kabloey . . .

I loved my dreamcast

PS2 has definately required the most part replacement seeing as I hoodwinked a former employer to replace the GC I "received as a gift two months prior and it just stopped working"

I bought my PS2 at the original launch, well not exactly RIGHT then, unfortunately, due to the fact that all the stores did not recieve enough shipments for them. But I had it preordered and within a week or two of the launch date, while everyone who hadnt preordered sat without the possibility of getting a PS2 for a month or so. I got mine, and I was happy. Even with the information going around that 1 out of 10 PS2's were faulty then. Thankfully, mine worked just fine.

And.. untill FFXI came out, trust me, I played the hell out of my PS2. It still works quite well even now. My controllers analog stick is getting kinda worn off on the rubber padding. But other than that and the once in a while disc read error. (hasn't happened since I used compressed air and cleaned out the disc section and stuff)

I also own a Game Cube, I love it. I got it soon as it was released and Oh Noes! ... I bought it myself too. <.< gee that must make me some kind of freak according to Marajade. I played the heck out of that too (till I got FFXI) (sensing a pattern here?) and ya know what, it's in tip top condition. The only controller I ever had screw up on me was a MadCatz (suprise suprise) which kinda sucks because I liked it (was big controller, easier on my hands) I've since gotten a WaveBird wireless controller and it's the best thing in the world.

I still have my NES (unfortunately it doesn't work so great, but.. it does work.. sometimes). If I had some controllers for my SNES I bet it would still work great too and lord knows that thing got so much use its a wonder it didnt explode. The controllers unfortnately got thier wires chewed up by my cat..... *sigh* and I just can't find any. (im sure I could if I checked EBay, maybe, but its not that big a priority). Also have my N64, though I dont play it anymore, it runs in great condition. Unfortunately the N64 controllers really did suck, that analog stick is worn out (and in some cases worn off) on all my controllers, even non Nintendo brands. Also on some controllers the B and A buttons are worn down to where they get stuck without touching them, kinda like how my original NES controllers are. ><

Both systems are great, however the GC is far superior to the PS2 in preformance. If you don't believe so, then you are quite frankly stupid not to realize this.

As far as durability goes, the PS2 actually has the worst of all 3 current consoles. X-Play actaully did a pretty interesting durrabilty test on the 3. Starting by dropping each system like 5-10 from the ground, onto a solid floor. (it's extreme but think about how much abuse your system could take were you to accidentally knock it around a lot). The PS2 failed this first test when it completely didnt come on at all after the fall, I think some parts flew off and everything, it was broken. The gamecube however took the fall, flipped around a bit and broke the locking mechanizim in the top for the games, but still turned on and functioned normally. Tough little box.

The X-box took the drop and well, it barely got any damage at all and worked just fine. (the damn things armored) Fooking Mircosoft.

I think the GC held up on their second test too, its been a while since I watched that episode so I dont remember what they did, but the last test they did the GC was finally broken, meanwhile the X-Box still functioned properly surviving the same tests. (Like I said, the damn things armor plated) I think in the third test they took a sledghammer to the two.. if im not mistaken. I think they whacked each a few times.

I'm no X-Box fan, and I don't own one, nor will I ever. But its a damn tough system, ill give it that much. My friend/roomate does however own an X-Box and ive watched him play several games on it, and ive played a few games on it as well.

Visually however I'd say both the GC and the X-Box are the same. I've seen nothing on the X-Box that I wasn't 100% sure the GC could handle either. If anything ive seen games with far better graphics on the Game Cube. Though I know the X-Box could probably handle those as well, so as far as that's concerned their even in my book and I've yet to see anything on the X-Box leave me to believe it's better in any way. It's just not.

However, the PS2 is highly showing it's age. It just cannot run as smoothly and fluidly as the other two systems. And games that do have decent to good graphics ofcourse suffer long ass load times. Load times that if the same game were on X-box or GC would be barely noticable. It's just fact, and those of you who are Playstation fanboys just need to realize that.

Lets take a game, make that two games. All released for each 3 systems. Game A: Soul Caliber II. Ever see all three versions? I have. Since I own the GC version, and my roomate owns the X-Box version. Ive seen and played both, and on those two systems, their virtually identical, save Spawn and Link. Play the PS2 version and (even though I <3 PS2 controller design. Best for fighting games.) the game itself doesn't even compare to the other two, visually and performance wise, it's horrible, not to mention it got the worst of the 3 "special" characters, no wonder.

Game B: Blood Rayne. Initially came out for the PS2, and my roomate (who also owns a PS2) got it then. I played it some, it was fine, looked decent and ran okay. A little bit later it gets released for both X-Box and Game Cube, nothing special, same game. However, it runs a lot smoother on the other two systems and since I own the GC version I can tell you for a fact it does, not to mention.. loading times are lessened. Same graphics, since they didnt really change anything at all. Like I said, same game, just the latter two systems could run it better than the former.

I personally can't wait for the Revolution to come out. I also can't wait for the PS3 to come out. Both systems look amazing at what they can do. The Revolution has its added bonus that I'll be able to play tons of older games that I love on the new system, and if it is backwards compatable with GC games, that will be a first for Nintendo's home console market, not to mention backwards compatability rocks. It's Nintendo, dispite the wierd look off the controller I know it will be good. (look at N64, it had a wierd ass controller but it worked really well for the system)

The PS3 just looks freaking amazing and I can't wait for the games that will come out on it. The "batarang controllers" really dont look all that bad to me, its pretty much the same old playstation controller design, just a bit more round and curvy, hopefully that will make them just more comfortable to grip.

X-Box 360 meh, well.. it will have FFXI atleast. XD That's all I have to say about it. I'm not really an X-Box person I guess.

And I'm turning 24 next month, so It's not really an age thing.

  Sorry for the huge post.. I just had to put my 2 cents up there.

Second obligatory post.. about the handhelds.

I don't own a DS or a PSP. Ya know what.. I probably never will, unless someone buys one for me or straight up hands me one for free.

The DS, while expensive for a handheld, isn't so bad. Nintendo's one for innovation, and the DS is something new to change it up. I give them props for trying something new out.

The PSP is rediculas. If you want to play MP3's get a MP3 player. Wanna watch dvd's get a portable dvd player (thier getting pretty inexpensive, compared to the PSP). Oh wait, this is suppose to be a gaming hand held? Ah well it does have some games.. but oh look.. it has quite possibly more than twice the amount of UMD movies than games that are even available for it. Not to mention out of all those games, only a handfull are even any good. Way to go Sony! Sure, they have some promising ones on the way.. I think.. *shrug*. Way to make a portable gaming device and then push people to not use it ..to.. play.. video games.. like it should? Sure.. it can do lots of stuff.. but wtf.. really? It's price is outragous, and tagged on there because of all the optional things it can do. Big freaking whoop, you buy a handheld gaming device to play games.

Go get a GBA SP for a fraction of the price, excellent handheld, and plenty of very worthwhile games to choose from and the best battery life on the market. The GBA/SP owns the market, heh.. no matter what you might think. It's still the No. 1 handheld. Oh.. and its quite a few years old too. Imagine that.

Wow, I leave for a couple of days and come back to a 15 page topic that I actually have an opinion about. I always take breaks at the most inopertune times.

There were more than a few posts that made my jaw drop in disbelief of what was on the screen in front of me. Most memorable is the claim that PS2 had no problems and if yours was broke, it's your own fault. That is paraphrased, but it's about the extent of the claim that was made.

I knew 3 people that got a ps2 the first week of release, all of which had to send them back because it was a "Beta" edition or some stupid shit like that. Something about the DVD reader didn't work properly. They would play some games fine, and others not at all.

The one in my house (that has never been dropped or otherwise abused) has problems loading. Anything. Ever. I was trying to play GTA:SA (before I realized that it was the same as the III and VC) and I'd be driving down the road and the PS would forget to load a city block or 2.

As a matter of fact, there are several video gaming stores here in Knoxville that will "fix" your playstation for $30. While they admit that the fix won't last more than 6 months, as long as you keep your reciept, they will do it again for free.

The people that have a PS2 that doesen't work right are the ones in the norm. You must have gotten lucky to get one that actually does work, especially if you bought it at release.

Another topic had something to do with Nintendo 64 "Failing". But that one was cleared up. Still, I don't think N64 failed as much as PS2 succeeded.

On the topic of zelda, yes, it was the same game over and over. Well.. at least OoT, MoM and Windwaker.
Well... at least the gameplay, cause they linked the storylines for those 3 together.
Well... the gameplay in the OoT and MoM was the same, WW had 1 weapon set that you used the whole time and you got a coulpe of new ones that affected the gameplay to a large extent, like the Leaf that let you Float, or the Grapling hook, are the ability to take control of other people.
Well... now that I think about it, the Gameplay in OoT and MoM was different with the 3 masks you had that turned you into a Goron/Zora/Deku and where in OoT you were big or little link with 2 different weapon sets.
hmmm. I guess even the ones that had the same contiguous storyline were different.

Then there is the topic of the controller for the Revolution. That looks strange...

I can't wait to try it out! Wow, something completely different than any other game I have ever played. This might actually make me like console games again. The last original and inovative console game I played that was actually any fun was Tony Hawk: Pro Skater.
That was the last new genre of game that I can remember being introduced that didn't suck outloud. Sure, there are games that have been fun since that one, like all the FF games, GTA:VC, 007 games, Soulcalibur, Metal of honor, Mario Party Eleventy Billion, Fight Night 200? (for Xbox, not sure the exact name, but it was fun), SSX, Mario Sunshine, and Many more.

But these games lack inovation. There is only so much you can do with a 82 button controller, weather it have a Dpad and 9 joysticks attached to it or not. I'm glad to see things such as the Eye Toy and Nintendo DS coming out, it means a broader range of availability for games. But now Nintendo is takin it a bit further and making the Basic Controller that comes with their Newest console MUCH different than anything anyone has ever seen before. It lets me not beat the shit out of all my friends and family (save Mokk, he's better at racing games, I'm better at fighting games, and we are dead even at first person shooters) at every video game I have ever played.

This post is way too long already, Maybe I'll write more later.

Yay for nintendo!
Yay for something new!

oh, btw...

Outside of the Internet, every console related error I've ever heard of is either a consumer error (broken controllers, not cleaning consoles, etc) or just an age error (original SNES controllers, batteries in game cartridges dying).

I got mine on the first day of release and haven't heard anything about this. Why would they release beta versions? Honestly, it sounds like you just made that up. A beta version is usually free and required to be sent back to the company upon completion of a beta testing.

Scratched CD? Do you clean your PS2 and other consoles with a can of compressed air on a regular basis? Most people don't, and this causes a lot of problems. The PS2 is a sensitive piece of hardware - you don't keep your PC dirty and then complain about the fan inside of it not functioning correctly, do you?

Um, yes, we have those in the rest of the United States, too. I have gotten a few of my SNES cartridges fixed by a trained, licensed professional for a small fee. Also, if your PS2 is still under warranty, Sony will pay S&H fees to fix your PS2 for... *gasp* free. Don't say I'm lying because I personally know two people who have done this. On a side note, my local EB Games will accept broken Gamecubes for a trade-in credit of $30. I find this ironic because they don't list any price on broken PS2s or XBoxes (probably meaning there is more broken Gamecubes out there - at least around here).

Just because something didn't work in your favor doesn't automatically make everyone else lucky. That'd be like me saying that everyone who doesn't have a stuck pixel on their DS is lucky and aren't a part of the norm because my DS has a red, stuck pixel on the non-touch screen (and I'm not making this up).

No, the N64 is a laughing stock with all of two or three games considered to be great by the general population of gamers. Hell, the N64 was even made fun of by Carlos Mencia not too long ago. The N64, if I recall correctly, was often times returned back to stores due to lack of content available on them. You can go to your local game store and they will practically give you one for free... yet if you want a Playstation, SNES, or Genesis... you're still going to be paying at least $20. Also, the PS2 was never in direct competition with the N64, rather, it competes with the Gamecube... making your point slightly skewed.

Okay, I completely missed your point. Each console Metal Gear game post Snake's Revenge is almost exactly the same in terms of gameplay except they added new items (which in turn added very little gameplay) The major gameplay element in Metal Gear is sneaking around. The major gameplay element in Zelda is fighting of monsters.

I don't think of Ocarina of Time and imediately think, "OH YES! GRAPPLING HOOK FUN!" Rather, I think, "Mindless button mashing until you kill your simple-minded foes! YES!" I hope that point wasn't misleading, however - I kind of like mashing the attack button over and over again.

On the other hand, I mentioned Metal Gear's new items. The most notable new items in Metal Gear is obviously the costume and medical items in Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. Yes, these items change some of the game, but your overall purpose in the game is still the same - sneaking around.

Yeah, that oh-so-creative DS rally innovated games with its touch screen. Because, ya'know, no other handheld has ever used a touchscreen outside of PDAs and the Zodiac Tapwave. o w8? You're telling me PDA games have been out for a while? And what is this?! A controller that looks like a television remote? Didn't Delta start using those in their airplanes a few years ago? Oh, what about the N64's controller that required a third arm to hold - yeah, that one flew really well.

One thing that needs to be said: Was anyone clammoring for "innovation" before it bacame a Nintendo buzzword?

Seriously, did you get a gamecube, look at the controller and say "wheres the innovation here?" I'm willing to bet you didnt because there is nothing fundamentally wrong with the current status quo. Knocking the Xbox360 and the PS3 for not being "innovative" is kinda dumb to me. Does "innovation" = better? I dont think it automatically does. It might be better in some respects, but like graphics it is only one advantage.

And I dont really want to get into an argument over graphics and crap like that, because after watching the MGS4 demo there is not one person here that can convince me that the PS3, at least, is a HUGE leap in terms of power. When we do start seeing the Revolution games, they had damn well better represent something more than a Gamecube with a funky controller. I know I'll probably be called a graphics whore and hunted down with a pitchfork, but I want something other than a new peripheral to justify this system. I want games that arent possible on the GCN.

And while I'm at it, I may as well ask why this controller isnt possible for the GCN? It seems to me that it could easily be done, in which case I think it ought to be. I read somewhere that Nintendo's plan isnt to beat the competition in "horesepower" but rather in "innovation." It would seem to me that to justify this new system, its gotta be more than a gamecube with a wacky controller, but I'm waiting for actual game demos before I'll set any of this in stone.

-Ham

Actually, earlier on in the thread someone posted a picture of a docking controller for the revolution. It's basically a gamecube controller with a slot for the remote to go in. Nintendo designed that for all the people that couldn't handle the remote by itself.

If you're a true graphics whore, you'll dump 360 on it's ass and only look to the PS3. I dont remember if you ever said you were getting a 360 or not, just that there's no need to if you want the best graphics.

I'm all for innovation in games, while there's nothing wrong with the current state of games, there's not much right with it either. Everything is a copy of some other game and when something actually new comes out, it's a huge hit, i.e. Katamari Damacy. No one ever said that a game had to look as realistic as possible to be a good game.

Nintendo isn't taking Sony and Microsoft's stance and just throwing as much power as they can into games and I like that. For one thing, the system should be a lot cheaper since we don't need to buy those expensive overpowered processors. They're also trying to make the games fun without overloading you with pretty pictures. If I'm playing a game, I might be too busy to see how good something looks, or I might too engrossed in the visuals to play well.

I'm not saying Nintendo's better than sony or microsoft, but they're not some dying company like a lot of you seem to think they are. They have made some of the best games ever; with great games on every console and I don't doubt that they'll have excellent games on this console as well.

Ecks, I saw the X-Play thing too, it was cool, you got the end wrong though, the X-Box lost. They dropped the Cube and the BOX off like a 20-30 foot drop, and the whole front of the X-BOX flew off. The Cube lid broke a little bit, but it still closed and played.

Gamecube = Most durable, EVAR.
