Ancient Magic - 200k for Tornado. I haven't even bothered to look at Quake yet. Then yoiu have the -ga spells that have been hiked up. And then you have to spend so much money that you can NOT get back like a melee would to sell the item back. Count the money MAGES have to spend from level 1-75 and see if you can get that back.
On top of that, we carry echo drops (or should) to cancel out silence as mages are ineffective if we have been silenced and can't rely on a MELEE to fix that for us.
Then we get into actual exp-ing and we buy food just like the rest of the groups. And mage food is just as expensive depending on what you get. I personally choose Melon Pies+1 for Int boost and MP regen boost while healing and those are approx 30k/stack.
And when we enter magic aggro zones, we ourselves should have silent/prism medicines.
So where in there should I feel pity that a melee could spend an hour farming and purchase maybe a stack of medicines so he can safely get there as REGAINING the lost exp from dying could take just as long as farming. Plus, they'll probably expect me to D2, which I had to quest for myself for a good 3 hours or for some people who bought it, and that'll save the melee a walk home.
My blm is my main but I play MANY jobs and when I play melee, I generally do have sneak/silent medicinies.
And you know what? If the melee is the type of player to have the sniper rings, elite gear, they can figure out a way to get the 10k for medicines as they obviously figured a way to get the gear.

And the post was not really a retailiation but I know how much a melee generally has to spend nowadays to perform their job properly but you can't tell me that any gear you buy can not be sold back for a comparable loss that mages go through with spells. How much money do mages go through?

Well the only time I leave my MH with out my powder and oil is when I am farming. The down side is I am always seeking a party while I farm and if I get invite the party doesnt always want to wait for me to go to MH and get my stuff. Yes I carry Silent Oil Prism Powder and even Echo Drops on me when I am given a chance to prepare (I do forget sometimes as Sneaky and Jender know).
I dont have top notch gear, but I have good gear none the less, and I play my job damn well. 30k food and all my spells. Like I said not the best gear but I am always prepared. I carry both Scythe and Great Sword on me at all times, and it is always an up to date weapon, and I can afford it. What melee cant if I can?
Making money on this game isnt hard. Get off your ass and haul in 30k an hour while you are looking for group. Not that hard and it adds up pretty quickly.

Melee has no excuse. They should ALWAYS have sneak oil/prism powder on them.... AT ALL TIMES. If you dont want to take the time to get expensive gear (snipers and other stuff), ok, thats up to you. Food isnt that horribly priced, I've xp'ed with some melee's that use Meat Mithkabobs in their high 50's (its disappointing, but at least they are using food).
I can not stand it when I'm in a party of people all in the higher levels and ranks, and still cant support themselves. Not only does it show lack of effort, it is a major pain in the ass. I love it when i pop a silent oil, and another melee asks for sneak, the his sneak wear halfway through Kuftal tunnel and crabs aggro and he dies (I just feel bad when a mage dies trying to re-sneak him
). Meanwhile I can get to Cape Terrrigan on one oil.
There is NO excuse to not have oils and powders. You use maybe 3 or 4 of each in 99% of your xp parties. that what, a total of 10k. Melee can farm that in about 30 minutes max, its not that difficult. Dont be lazy, go make some chump change and be independant, dont rely on mages, it just makes more hasstle for the party.

I've taken the EXP loss for my party just as often, if not more often than my tanks take it for me so I think you should just hush now.

How much more consumables does a melee bring? GENERALLY? I'm not talking about the super prepared, on the go, general store where they provide juice, echo drops, pies. This thread was about Flymops experience with a LEVEL 56 PARTY. LEVEL 56. These people who have obviously been smart enough to make it to 56 should have understood areas to level. What's the point of throwing in that a mage didn't have silena? I'd want people to shoot me if I had a 26 whm sub and didn't have a level 19 spell. That's a pretty important spell. And why doesn't the ninja carry echo drops.... I do. Most of the people who do post are pretty much competent players with the occassional screw up.
Have you been to many areas where aggro is a problem??? Maybe you're a skilled person, and if you are, fine go ahead and don't buy the medicines. All the power to you. The medicines is an insurance.
It goes both ways. Mages keep melees alive and melees keep mages alive. We can't level without the melees because we'll be bashed to death, and melees can't level without mages because they don't have hte hp. I know there are exceptions to the rule but then if you're going to bring that up, why do you bother to party. Plds/nins/wars have died because they're the main tank. Mages die because they're too busy healing these tanks.

And I have read what you wrote and if that's what's happened, well bloody hell kick hte unprepared mage because this is basically what the thread is about. However, at that level, why the heck can't you be prepared? If you're skilled enough, those medicines hsould last a good six months then.
I don't understand why people have such a problem with buying consumables. I'm Rng/Nin and it's not really that big of a hassle, and I usually don't have alot of gil to boot. I try to always have a full stack of everything I use. People say that they don't want to use Oils on what could be a bad party , but not using oils and powders isn't going to help the situation now, is it?

All this bitching about gils. I spend close to 100k for 12 hours of partying as THF and I could really give a shit. It doesn't take that long to make gils. People are just fucking lazy. And don't give me this "ure a thf" shit because TH isn't magical. Bottom line is bring your sneak oils and whatever else or be left at the zone. If I was a mage I would do that. "Ohhhhhh you dont have oils??? Sorry, your out of the party, k cya bye bye."
