The General Discussion Thread

2 pieces away from full DL on monk, and stuck on Titan. Getting tired of the endgame because if I get a titan group, I'll get people geared for it but they just sort of meh.

Yeah, when I do Titan HM, it's going to be with mostly, if not all, FC members. So we can communicate and I know that the majority and important roles know what they are doing. I haven't heard a lot of not-so-great things about Garuda, so I can imagine that Titan is even worse.

Atm, I haven't even attempted Garuda, but Ifrit is a piece of cake, and was even before I got my Ifrit weapon.

So these were just announced at TGS lol.

Is this early april fools or something? Some of those look horribly shopped, while a few look semi-believable.

I really hope they don't do this. (I <3 Shantotto, but come on.. don't need a giant her for a FATE).

I'm guessing all the bads come out on the weekends. I wouldn't even mind if my Castrum runs were taking over an hour, as long as they finished.

I think out of nine groups I joined these past two days, two made it to the end, and one did it in just under 30 mins. The other one was a DF run.

Yeah, was having same issue with titan. Much my FC is still in high 30's - 40's and its absolutely undoable threw duty finder pugs, add in the fact that if you have the slightest bit of latency his plumes are near unavoidable : /

But I came across an FC selling titan wins for 150k and I figured that was dirt cheap for getting that headache out of the way, Hell I paid like 120k just for the weapon and 2 materia needed earlier in the relic quest. so i went for it. So now I got my relic! ^^ now back to farming tomes lol. 2 pieces away from full darklight and 600 myth away from relic +1

Here i was worried rerolling for 2.0 was gonna hold me back, only 3 weeks in and I'm already better geared then my 1.0 character.

BTW garuda's really not that bad at all. Mainly up to the offtank and them grabbing the red lined add and turning it away from the party quickly, and rest of party being able to down the green line add then red line add in proper order. the rest is just remembering proper positioning. If you've got a good offtank and everyone remembers where to stand and when, it goes pretty smoothly. you really dont even need much darklight, just the jewelry and then AK gear for the rest, unless you're a tank I guess.

I've only done Garuda once, and that was in almost full AF and awful, awful jewelry. Perks of running as a healer before gear checks started happening, though.

I'm only one AK or CM run away from being able to buy my darklight robe, then I think I'll run Garuda for the WHM weapon and the next part of my relic quest.

I still don't like Shantotto. Don't get why so many like her :|

Btw, I REALLY hate weekly caps of resources needed for gear. Always have. I did the math, takes 14 weeks to get full AF2 + Relic+1 and that's not counting the belt, earring, neck, wrist, and 2 rings. And that's only ONE job. Multiply that by the total number of classes and it's like 126 weeks to get everything geared out. By then there'll prolly be better gear. That and I just hate artificial caps. There'll be natural caps based on people's free time per week anyways and the time it takes to do the instances. Blah.

and thats 14 weeks you'll be paying to stay subscribed to gear out one job, and EXACTLY why SE did it, they need their subs lol.

they lost alot of money on 1.0 and the redesign and relaunch on 2.0 put them even deeper in the hole.

Ya I don't care for that design policy. Design for the game to be fun and have things to do to keep people wanting to play. Not fake game design solely intended for profit and not fun :\ seriously, don't even need the cap, most won't grind THAT hard to finish out all the jobs within a few weeks' time. Hated it in WoW, hate it in all MMOs, hate it here.

Also, I don't think I've ever done the HM Primals without the FC :P much better. Though, amusingly, we have issues getting enough DPS and even bigger issues finding healers. Seems like EVERYONE wanted to be a PLD. Gotta be their sexy AF.

what good is a fun game design tho if everyone maxes out their af2, relic +1, clears coil and then quits before 2.1 leaving ARR in the same boat as 1.0? I understand why SE did it. they are playing the long term strategy here for ARR

Do the math, the total time it takes to run an AK is like 40 minutes. At 40 myth per AK for that. Some more points:

head - 495
body - 825
hands - 495
legs - 825
feet - 495
Relic - 900

Total for one class: 4035
Total for all classes: 36315

so 36315 total Mythology for just the AF2 and Relic+1 for each class. That's ignoring rings, neck, wrist, and belt.

At about 40 myths per AK that means it takes a total of 907.875 (rounding up to 908 cause you can't do only part of a run and get myths) AK runs. Since I said roughly 40 minutes per run it would be back up to the number 36320 minutes, which is roughly 605.33333 (repeating) hours to do it all. That's about 25 days STRAIGHT of playing to get full AF2 and Relic+1 for every class. That isn't including clearing coils. That isn't including doing farming/grinding/whatnot for crafting classes. Ya, I'm pretty sure there's enough content for people to keep playing before their next patch that they don't need to put a weekly cap :\

Meanwhile, as things are now, it'll take about 121 weeks (maybe a bit more) to finish up each class' AF2 and relic+1. To do JUST Relic+1 you'd need 27 weeks of farming to get JUST those. I dunno, that seems a bit ridiculous to me.

I should add, 67.25 hours straight to get enough AKs done to max out one job.

I just see it as a very bad game design mechanic that's not intuitive or necessary especially because so many won't grind out gear that fast. A few might, let em do that. The vast majority won't.

Who the hell is maxing out every single class in decked out armour? :s

On a side note: FFXI has called my name once more. I'm quitting ffxiv and going back to the asura server with old friends from quetz. You all have fun!

:O really? Wow.

I'd still be up for playing both FFXI and XIV if they gave a discount to the monthly costs for both (like half off each). Prolly would get a lot to play both. Also, I wish FFXI would finally upgrade it's user interface/controls for computer already. That's still a bit frustrating (though got used to it long ago).

See I don't mind how long relics in FFXI too either, it wasn't an artificial cap for the most part. Sure there were the days wait at points between stages (or a week's), but that was fine because it had at least felt like there was a reason in the game "Gotta forge this, it'll take awhile, go do other stuff while you wait" and you could get all the items relatively fast (especially if you had lots of gil). The key was that it felt like it had reason in the game world. This is just an unintuitive and artificial mechanic obviously with no thought other than "gotta make em play longer so we can get all the monies!!" and that bothers me. Always has in all MMOs. Basically I want it to have at least a reason in the game world, something intuitive, I want it to at least feel like it has meaning in the game world for it to take so long (cause I don't mind it taking a long time on its own) instead of the feeling of "well this is blatantly just there to make me play way longer than I would have if it wasn't an MMO..."

Btw, Strid, they fixed AK, you can't do speed runs like that anymore. They added more mobs in for one, they made em hit a bit harder and the first boss has a wall until you kill the pack in front of it, that priest doesn't go down so fast anymore (I've had a party with full relic DPS and they couldn't blow it up that fast) And I believe they made it so mobs will aggro your party (as long as they are in range) even if you did nothing to them. Was the same patch that added a logout timer

An auto-logout feature has been introduced wherein characters that are inactive for 30 minutes will be automatically logged out of the game.

The following adjustments and countermeasures have been implemented:

Changes have been made to the behavior and mechanics of the enemies found within the “The Wanderer’s Palace” and “Amdapor Keep” dungeons to counteract instances of players running through the dungeon without engaging enemies on the way to bosses.

As advancing through dungeons without defeating enemies is not an intended strategy, we plan to continue making further changes in the future to discourage this type of behavior.

In instance dungeon “The Wanderer's Palace” and “Amdapor Keep”, we have increased the amount of AllaganCoins that can be obtained from a treasure chest.

Reduced the amount of gil required for repair fees and materia removal as follows:

Equipment levels 1-10: 10 gil -> No Change

Equipment levels 11-20: 50 gil -> 30 gil

Equipment levels 21-30: 100 gil -> 60 gil

Equipment levels 31-40: 210 gil -> 120 gil

Equipment levels 41-40: 500 gil -> 200 gil

Reduced the price of Dark Matter as follows:

Dark Matter G1: 5 gil -> 4 gil

Dark Matter G2: 30 gil -> 12 gil

Dark Matter G3: 70 gil -> 24 gil

Dark Matter G4: 150 gil -> 48 gil

Dark Matter G5: 350 gil -> 80 gil

A temporary countermeasure has been implemented for the following issue:

For the issue wherein the “Manor Sentries” found within the Haukke Manor dungeon could become stuck and prevent players from progressing through the instanced dungeon, we have changed the original location of “Manor Sentries” to the second floor.

The following issues have been addressed:

The server would crash under certain conditions during instanced dungeons.

Characters would sometimes get stuck in the “Binding Coil of Bahamut” dungeon after the party was wiped out.

Bomb Boulders would sometimes fail to appear in “The Navel (Hard)” battle.

Certain monsters would sometimes get stuck in the “Amdapor Keep” dungeon.

The option to return to Home Point would not display when completing a primal battle while being KO’d.

The entry point for the “The Thousand Maws of Toto-Rak” dungeon was shown in the field in the “Stinging Back” guildhest.

The “Steel Reign” FATE would sometimes fail to appear.

Completing the “Behold Now Behemoth” FATE would sometimes cause the server to crash.

If the player was disconnected during the “Lady of the Vortex” instanced battle, the Duty List, Journal, and Journal Map may display incorrectly.

The “Notorious Biggs” quest could sometimes be progressed without completing the instanced battle.

There were occasions where it was impossible to target the snowman in the “Speak Softly to Me” quest.

The cutscene was canceled if the player was attacked during the “Lord of Crags” cutscene.

If a player logged out while being bound by duty within an instance, and logged back in after conclusion of the instance, the free company chat would not work.

Mog Letters were not sent properly in some instances.

Certain conditions would sometimes cause the server to crash while interacting with the free company “Company Chest”.

The “Reach” gauge was sometimes not selectable when in a new, unknown gathering point.

In some instances, the specified items to collect were incorrect in the “A Relic Reborn” quest.

In some instances, the specified enemies to defeat were incorrect in the “A Relic Reborn” quest.

Also, I haven't played FFXI in about 2 months, so holy butts, they are (or have) changed the controls finally for the PC users? That makes me happy :)

Anyone hell bent on farming the crap out of AK is doing it like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dO7CBVvAi3Y

You can't even do this anymore, though. The first boss is blocked by a gate that required the three lambs in front of it to be killed in order to unlock, and the other two have Dullahans patrolling the entranceways.

Although you could probably get past the dullahans by having the party full wipe in the boss door after quickcast + raising the paladin, then have him get up and raise the healer.

Ah, wow... I was wondering why no one was shouting for AK speedruns any more and instead for speed runs of The Praetorium, which I assume is just skipping cut scenes and such. I stopped doing anything like that a bit over a week ago or so and started FATE grinding all the jobs to 50 so I hadn't noticed [hadn't read patch notes either]. That's a bust and my bad, but this is all for the better.

Feels the same to me, almost exactly the same. The only difference is you can't buy the tokens and they've gone and weighed that out by making the allotment needed actually obtainable by a normal human being in a somewhat decent amount of time. If people were, pre-Abyssea, running around buying enough coins to make a relic in a month, maybe I'd see it the way you do, but they were not -- hell, most people still aren't. It's a matter of opinion though, I suppose.

In regards to the XI U.I., I don't think it has made it off the test server yet. I haven't played in a long while, but someone pointed that out to me a few weeks back because of a joke involved [but that's totally a real thing, it's goin' down].

I think the point Elemmire is trying to make is that he doesn't want Square Enix to make any money.

Making a relic did have a theoretical cap -- if every single Dynamis run went back-to-back to back nonstop, and you bought every coin from every group that ran, you'd still be capped by the number of currency that dropped to all those groups that week. Granted, that's a big number, but it's also something that'd never happen; you're not the only one making a relic, after all. It's a lot easier now that any butthole surfer can go on a fresh 99 BST or THF and farm up some coin, but it wasn't always that way.

Honestly, Mythology Tomestones are the only things that you're limited to earning weekly? Maybe Binding Coil progress, I haven't really read up on it? That sounds like a fair tradeoff when virtually anything else you want to do is unlimited. I'd kill for some more areas to farm tomestones from, but it sounds like they are adding at least four new dungeons in 2.1 (two hard mode dungeons, a brand new one, and Crystal Tower).

Of course, whining about the cap is only valid assuming you even hit the cap week after week. I don't know about anyone else, but I can only tolerate so many Garuda/Titan/AK runs each week before I get bored and go level another class. I've only come close to the cap once, and that was just last week when I was making a specific push to get a Hero's jewelry piece.

wrt the new XI UI, I haven't really read up on people's opinion on it from the test server stuff, and I'm wondering how much people like it. I don't think I could ever go back to not using Spellcast for macro execution, but XI's old UI is so booty I don't see how anyone who plays on PC these days could tolerate it. I'd welcome the change on the official servers, even with the butt ugly UI they have on the test server.

I know you're stating an "if" statement, but I just wanted to remind folks that Dynamis has, and has always had lockout restrictions linked to it. IIRC, it used to be longer than a day even.

Here are the lockout/resume details on Binding Coil.

Which is completely normal for a game of this type. I'd assume Crystal Tower [which oddly enough, gear wise, is supposed to be done before BoC] will be the same way.

I meant more in terms of one full group of 32 (64? been too long) going in directly after a completely separate group finished their run, but I get what you're saying.
