The Golden Compass

Yeah, Tom Bombadill. A character that was only there for at most 20 pages in a 400 page book(only the first book too) and you never saw/heard from him again. He didn't even serve a real purpose, he gave the hobbits their swords, but they could have just stumbled across them just as easily.

ahh..one of my friends was bitching a few weeks ago about the movies leaving out Tom and how it completely ruined the movies...but she bitches about alot of things...actually, she's not even my friend, in fact I dislike her very much.

lol it doesnt affect the movies at all. Hes a cool, but very minor character.

The LotR movies also left out Glorfindel, a far more important character to the story than Tom Bombadil. All in all though, I think Peter Jackson did a pretty good job. A lot of information for the movies was gleaned from The War of the Ring series, which caused Jackson to change some things in order to integrate what he felt were more important stories to the movies; i.e. the relationship between Arwyn and Aragorn.
