The Price of Honesty.

You need to have YOUR insurance company's adjuster look at her car as well. I hit some asshole who pulled out in front of me about five years back and he gets me this bunk ass five grand quote from his dealership. By default, I have to forward that to my insurance company. After that, my adjuster went and looked at it and said it could be fixed for much cheaper, under a grand actually. Initial estimates take into the fact that you haver insurance and you're not paying for it so the price, they will milk all they can from you. When you get involved and get your insurance company into the mix, everything changes. Looks like they are taking off her back bumper and everything dealing with it just to re-buff and paint some of it. Normal proceedure if you use a dealership and do not get your insurance involved. It should be much cheaper.

I hit my friend's car once because her and her friends flashed me.

True story.

Thanks again for the advice. My insurance won't touch anything that's under $1000 so I'm paying for this out of pocket, which she knew before she got the quote. I'm not sure if she had mentioned that. I'm going to ask the dealership tomorrow for a more reasonable quote, and ask if half the stuff quoted was even necessary for the repair. From what I understand, I pay the dealership before they work on her car, but I am confirming this with her tomorrow morning before I go in to be sure. I'm also going to request that if there are any additional charges that are not included in my quote, that I am not paying for those, since the quote is substantial as it it, and if the quote has been overestimated, I want to be refunded.

If you don't want to pay out of pocket, lower your deductible.

If there is additional damage/charges, they are your responsibility to pay them.

You seem to think I have a lot of money there, Meeze.

I'm actually thinking you think you deserve some sort of good samaritin (sp) discount cause you did what you are supposed to anyway.

It was your choice to drive, you know the rules of the road (hopefully), and you know the consequences when those rules are broken. You knew that before this happened, and now you think because you are poor, you shouldn't have to pay.

If you don't like the direct AND indirect costs of driving, then you should sell your car and buy a bicycle or a bus pass.

This was a parking lot. I didn't ram her car. I bumped the front of my car against the corner of her bumper. At a slow rate. The car didn't even budge when I accidently smacked it.

Perhaps you didn't read the original post, or else you would have read that. We agreed that I would pay for the paint job for the scratches. I don't know how to make that any more clear to you. I'm not asking for any discount. I'm annoyed I'm being taken advantage of by a dealership that is asking me to pay for parts that I did NOT damage. I made a mistake, I was honest about it. In that same parking lot, I have seen people knock out front lights and drive off without even leaving a note. People in parking lot accidents tend not to stick around at the accident? Why? Because people can be cowardly and dishonest. Sometimes people don't want to wait for the owner.

I would LOVE to be able to use the bus pass I'm forced to pay for in my tuition costs, but I live in the country.

Lastly, I never said I was poor and I'm not saying I shouldn't have to pay. What I am saying is I shouldn't have to pay more than what was agreed. I'm being ripped off by a dealership. 300 dollars in labor just to buff out the scratches and repaint them, then put the bumper back on. I don't think this is reasonable at all.

But whatever, you're entitled to your opinion.

Getting your insurance involved will make the costs for this accident cheaper yes. However your insurance rate will go up, even more so because shes young and in school.

To meeze, your just an all around general asshole arent ya? Your leet

I'm an asshole for reminding her of her responsibility as a driver?

By law, she is required to pay all damages accrued by the accident. I didn't write the law, but it is tiresome hearing all the carebears say she shouldn't have to pay that much.

If i broke out your window, and said I would replace it, then showed up with a Safeways bag and duct tape, wouldn't you be a bit upset?

Well, I'd be just as upset if you showed up with a quote with non-manufacturer parts to fix my car.

I shouldn't be punished for your neglicens(sp).

It's just reality, not here to chearlead her in her attempt to rip someone off who did no harm. The lady is the victim here, and if she wants the dealership to do it, so be it. You can't force her to go to some wetback working out of his datsun.

And if i broke your window, and then found out i paid for your new window, but also you new 28" rims and CD player?

The issue is the dealership and/or the owner using this excuse to do additional work beyond that caused by the accident. Not the damage itself.

Not sure if the law's different or not...

But if it was in a parking lot then you have no legal responsibility to pay for those damages, since it's private property and no police report was filed. (Which is odd... since I thought all body shops in Canada required a police report if the damage estimate was over 500 dollars.)

Canada's wacky like that... when my Eclipse was backed into the guy wanted to pay out of pocket (wtf's up with Canadian auto insurance?) but since it was near 1.5k or so they required a damage sticker and some other junk. So we had to go file a police report, which in turn required insurance notification.

Buuuuut, a lot of things need to be done when just repainting a car. Not to mention blending etc to make sure the paint looks correct with the rest of the car. But 500+ bucks for scratch fixes?

It cost me less than 300 at the dealership to get rear bumper repainted from some minor scratches incured by some assfuck in a grocery parking lot mere WEEKS after getting my car in 2003. (But I guess that's in USD... so yeah...)

They are removing pieces to inspect them and see if any further damage was caused. There are no new pieces being added on to the costs. If you were adding new pieces, it would be a whole lot more than 500$.

"remove/replace" means take off/put back on.

I already paid off the quote, but under part type/part number, they're all written as new except the the seal.
