Did I miss anything?

I don't really think this is that fair of a comparison, either compare all NQ or all HQ. You also missed druids slops and enfeebling torqes, that's about antoher 1.5 mil also.

I do a agree with you Phraust, it is much cheaper to equip a BLM with NQ gear than a THF.

But hey, it's not hard to drop 20 mil in BLM equip either.
Honestly.. winged boots? go go 1 more defense! Talk about a waste of money :p Also, I think if a blm decks out on ALL their spells, they spend more than a million (or what exactly were you calculating here?)

I've never seen a blm with a Sapient Cape.. only red cape +1 for the 1 extra int. I guess the -2 emnity would be nice :p~ There are also those black mages that buy the level 50 RSE belts depending on their race. Those can be quite pricey too. But would likely be used instead of the penitents rope.

I think it would be fair to add HQ elemental staves as there are some blms that save up for these.

1) Winged Boots are/were usually cheaper than Leaping boots.
2) If you wanted to swap out the Sapient cape for a Red Cape take 1.25 Mill off the original total :D
3) I intentionally left RSE out of the equation because they can vary so broadly, I was trying to be neutral.

So if you add the HQ Ice Staff, which if I am correct is pretty much the Only HQ staff that is really sought after, and trade that valu with the Sapient Cape, you can even out....

Basically Give or take, Blm: 7M, Thief 14M.

The main difference is this:
Blm are more apt to be pulling the "BLM is so expensive you don't even know" When the BLM that usually say that are wearing 52k in gear and missing all the spells that cost over 50k, which at level 65 is like 5 spells(Flare, Quake, Tornado, Erase, Stonaga II) the exception being Warp I & II. So a total player value of about 400K tops telling me BLM is expensive...
lol good point, but I wasn't aware we were talking about cheap asses :p

Just a note on HQ staves, they all have hidden effects and are all useful, not just ice staff :)

Thats not a fair comparison. Scorp harness is not a neccessity for a thief and it is a bulk of the entire price for Thiefs. Also I think a majority of the argument is about which is more costly but you now include emp pin and leaping boots. Those are now free and I am sure you camped yours anyways just as a black mage is forced into camping Moldavite Earring. Its really impossible to calculate fairly which job is more expensive as one's idea of minimal or optimal gear varies from person to person. Its also not a fair comparison since the gear listed for thief has multiple sets for equip changes whereas the black mages(excluding staves) has little to none. A black mage could always benefit from enfeebling gear or even +mp gear, but you didn't include that. Also the +evasion gear is really unneccesary except possibly farming and you excluded all gear a black mage might consider needed for farming.

Really any job can be made to be more expensive than another by the shear amount of gil one person is willing to expend. However, I think the main reason people consider ranger so expensive is because of the arrows used, as would a ninja when using tools, because these are job expenses that can never be recuperated by reselling. All mages are forced to buy spells so they can further their job and it is something they cannot unlearn to resell at a later time. That is what people mean by a black mage being more expensive. A theif can resell everything they ever used with very little loss (a good thief should use debuff bolts) which is a far cry from anything a ranger or ninja uses.

Completely off-topic, but if you're going to get retarded about prices:

Dont get all upset because of what phraust said. He's right. Of course the flip side is that: expensive Blm>>Cheap Rng.

Seriously though, yes Blm can get away with being VERY cheap. I've seen a hell of a lot more cheap Blms than I have cheap rangers.

And since we are having an e-dick swinging contest, at 65 I had:

All HQ staves ~12mil
2XGenius Rings ~1mil
Ocean Stone 2mil
Bunch of misc stuff ~2mil

Not to mention that at 68, I picked up a Demon's Cloak ~5mil

Hell, it's possible to whore most of your job equipment out to absurd levels for any job.... Except Paladin of course, we get off damn light. Go Go AF gear!! I will admit that it makes me feel a little bad to be relying on that right now though... But  . When SE releases a decent set of armour in the 60-70 range that has +Enmity and good defensive stats, I'll start looking to buy.

In defense of the BLM, however, I guess I'll point out that gear comparisons tend to miss one thing, namely that the spells are non-refundable. Much like Ammo costs, when you get right down to it.

Still don't agree. You can't say one job is more expensive than another. I have seen plenty of cheap thiefs too. All that matters is how much a person is willing to spend. It just so happens people that play thief to high levels like to get expensive things because they can make gil easier and afford it, so they can afford to spend more gil. But when it comes down to it, anyone can make any job more expensive. If I wanted to, I could argue white mage is because we need enfeebling gear in case we don't have a red mage or +magic att. because my holy magic will do better for the light burst on undead or I need a Serket ring for more mp. You can argue all you want but its not about whether a job is more expensive, its whether you make it more expensive.

Hey guys watch how little I've spent

Destroyers - Free, 30 Kindred Seals

Optical Hat - 20k for the Synth, camped the eyes.
Temple Crown - Free
Presidential Hairpin - Free
Genbu's Kabuto - Free

Kirin's Osode - Aside from time, Free
Temple Cyclas - Free

Seiryu's Kote - Free
Temple Gloves - Free
Melee Gloves - Free

Byakko's Haidate - Free
Shura Haidate - Got lumber for free from Valkyrs, Haidate cost about 5k to make, Urushi cost 50k from vendor, since none were on sale, other ingredients too cheap to list.
Temple Hose - 2k for the Yagudo Drink

Marine M Boots - 2.3M
Temple Gaiters - Free
Suzaku's Sune-Ate - Free

Happy Egg - Free

Guarding Torque - 2k
Spike Necklace - 10k
Life Belt - 35k
Brown Belt - Free, did the quest.
Forager's Mantle - 2.2M
Beak Mantle +1 - I dunno, 5k maybe?
Coral Earring x2 - 5k/each
Ruby Ring x2 - 40k/each
Sniper's Ring x2 - 250k/300k(They're ancient ones)

5,259,000 gil spent on MNK.

Even then, you can pretty much halve the cost of the Forager's Mantle and Marine M Boots, since I sold my Amemet+1 and Fuma Sune-Ate afterwards. Both of which I actually made some money off of. Bought Amemet+1 when it was 800k, and Fuma Sune-Ate when they were 500k.

And we can chop prices down further a bit if I tally in the items I camped and later sold when they became obsolete.

cheap thf(no scorp)=thf who gets out tp'd by this drk :D

Even an overly equiped thief gets out TP'd by darks. Me and Memu were in a party together, and I was gettign pretty much owned on TP. The only catch was Memu was using Sushi, and I was using Chief Kabobs. Either way I was getting Out TP'd. I'd use Sushi and Hit 0's, or use Kabobs and Miss... It's hard being a thief. Daggers get such an insanely low base damage. When the Highest damage dagger with the best gear does 0 damage on EXP mobs? THAT is an Imbalance.

Back to the original topic: SE doesn't need to nerf things, they need to FIX things. It's like an old addage in cooking, you can always add more, but you can never take away.

The other thing about the ranger nerf that was kinda over looked, or at least rarely mentioned: That it was a double nerf. The Battle thing was ok, You fight Harder mobs, your damage should be proportionate to the mob you're fighting, BUT the whole Range Accuracy/Ranged Attack based on your distance thing was a little much. It it like telling Black mages that certain spells only work on certain sides of the mob, then they don't tell you what side you need to be for what spell. It's just the useless adding of more BS EXP party dancing... As somone else pointed out, the only thing Most Melee have to do is stand and hit, basically auto attack. Thieves need to move around and now Rangers do... Our Best Skillchain partner adds yet another level of annoyance to the job.... Great...

Trying being a brd with a pld tank and no rdm with an uncooperative party trying to keep pld with ballad. That is BS dancing. Welcome to the dance around and look important club. 8)

Also don't see how you can claim so many of those rare/ex items are free. Everyone spent hours upon hours to get all those items, and the adage 'time is money' is very true in ffxi.

I always loved those parties, whenever I found myself in one, I broke out my favorite bard phrase, "Madrigal and Ballad II for everyone" and proceded to melee.
