The Unstoppable Force vs The Immovable Object

Using the search function (OMG I KNOW!) I saw a discussion about PLD vs DRK from way back, but I think a necro of that magnitude wouldn't sit too well with most. (Over 2 years).

My friend and I decided to do our PLD vs DRK thing with our choice of subjobs. /RDM for me and /SAM for him. This is one video I threw together to show how it went. Sped it up to compress it a bit, but you still get the jist of it.

We did 10 fights (This video was fight 3/10) and we each won 5, so it was very well matched. We are decently geared but by no means have the best. In the end it turns out to be an Even Match.

His Dark Magic Skill is capped, so the drains were freaking brutal (300+ sometimes with Drain II.)

The real problems were Drain, Aspir and Dread Spikes. If you don't get rid of DS, your going to fall behind on HP real fast.

Being a crazy TDK fan, the first thing I thought upon seeing the title was the movie <_<

I love DRK+PLD tagteams. As a DRK I always preferred fighting alongside a Paladin, and fighting against one was an unrealized dream.

I could only get a few enfeebs to ever land and silence usually wasn't one of them.

Gravity, Blind and, on a couple very rare occasions, Slow. Of course my RDM is only 36, so I still have a level of enfeebling skill at least. In this case though, it was costing me very valuable MP I needed towards curing.

Also, this being the third fight, Fealty and Chivalry were down, which usually tilted the battle in my favor anyways.

With Fealty active, I resisted all of his stuns, which helped me get stoneskin up.

I believe the use of Soul Eater would have turned that battle.

In response to this, yes Souleater+Last Resort hurt ALOT, but he usually did so much damage with Guillotine with it, he ended up doing more harm to himself than was worth the damage to me.

Silence > Phalanx, then again I've never played PLD/RDM.

Why didnt you go /dnc? that way you can restore your MP with Aspir Samba, you get Subtle Blow, an Accuracy Bonus, and an Evasion Bonus too.

I had Phalanx up. Silence is hard to land. In the end, I would waste more MP trying to silence him which could go towards curing or flashing.

I don't really care for /DNC. I'm not saying it isn't good, but I prefer the broad uses for /RDM.

With /RDM I can Buff, Enfeeb (sometimes), Enspell, Bio/Dia II and Dispel (very important.)

Wow those are some fun video's I've never done any PVsP myself but I always thought Pld and Drk were two sides of the same coin that would make for an exciting match-up. In fact I'd be interested to see such an encounter without the subjobs as they can change the strategy alot perhaps.

I'd be interested in the gear selections too I see you both have those acp bodypieces.
