The use of meat at bird camp...

I was in a party set up by my friend Dudika. It was WAR, WAR, WAR, SAM, BRD, RDM (Dudika)

We were there for 2hrs and I parsed it twice in that time. There was a pretty pimp Japanese war in pt called Puresomethingorother. I used meat mithkabobs the whole time. The Japanese war didn't use any food.
1st parse we were both on 30% each
2nd parse was 31% to 30% in my favour
I always use food at birds as I feel that I should give every exp party everything I can give. I realise that he'd have beaten me well, if he also used food. I'd have expected a 3-4 % swing if that were the case.

I decided to do a little experiment in a subsequent party. We were at the top mamool camp for the first hour then decided to do birds for the remaining 50 mins or so

Party was NIN, NIN, WAR, WAR, MNK, WHM... we made around 25k and hr the whole time.
I parsed it twice

Parse 1 without food (for me)

21.49 %

Parse 2 with food (for me)

23.26%

So less than 2% increase. I know it not scientific data, but it got me thinking about how you feel food affects performance at birds. I got a surprise as to how small the gain actually was and that I'd have been with a % or so behind that pimp Japanese war that I mentioned. I guess that if you use a couple of stacks of meat in a party it also means that the time it takes to eat the food is time you are 1. Not hitting the mob 2. Not getting to the mob.

2% is low, although your "50min or so" parse doesn't seem long enough to get an accurate sample >_>

people who don't spam mithkas at birds deserve to (and do) get kicked by me, fuck that shit.

Put it this way. An entire party using meat will parse about +10% to a party not using meat, if your calculations are correct.

+10% is a lot.

Err what ? If each player boosts his damage by 3%, then the total dmg is still boosted by 3%.

To the OP it seems your own total damage was boosted was roughly 10%, so nothing's surprising considering you food sucks :

prior to food : you=21.49, others=78.51, total=100
after using foor : you=21.49*x, others=78.51, total=78.51+21.49*x

So if you solve 21.49*x/(78.51+21.49*x)=23.26, you find x=1.107, so 10.7% increase.

Meat party:

Player 1 +2%
Player 2 +2%
Player 3 +2%
Player 4 +2%
Player 5 +2%
- - - - - - - -
Total +10%

Non-meat party:

Player 1 +0%
Player 2 +0%
Player 3 +0%
Player 4 +0%
Player 5 +0%
- - - - - - - -
Total +0%

Difference:

0~10% = +10%

(assume 2 are not melee) 6 people in a party-2 mages = 4 People melee.
Each melee uses meat, each melee improves by 3%.
4 people at 3% each = 12%

Follow?

Meat party:
Total +10%

It doesn't quite work that way...

Let's just say for the sake of easy math that 5 melee all do exactly 1000 damage. So a 2% gain on that would be 20, meaning they all do 1020 damage.

Now your meat party will do 1020*5 = 5100 damage and your non-meat party will do 1000*5 = 5000 damage.

5100/5000 = 1.02 = 2% overall increase.

Regardless of who's right with the maths here, it's not really important. Though you're probably right.

What I mean though, is that eating meat may seem minor individually- but when all the melees are eating it, it adds up to a larger total. i.e. a full-meat party will clearly outdo a full no-meat party.

wow the math fail of this thread makes me sad ok Pchan is the only one who is correct let me make this clearer and easier for everyone as to why

first lets assume everyone else does roughly the same damage because otherwise any results are pretty much worthless

one person's damage goes from 21.49% -> 23.26% of the PTs damage
this leaves the rest of the PT's damage going from 78.51%->76.74% but these two %s represent the same damage per time value since they didn't change what they were doing.

lets say that for some amount of time that's 1000 damage that the rest of the PT does (makes math easier)
so that means originally the PT did 1000/.7851=~1273.72 damage and now the PT does 1000/.7674=~1303.10 damage(of course you can't have .72 damage but for finding % increase they are usefull)
which means person with meat went from 273.72 damage to 303.1 damage a (303.1-273.72)/273.72=10.7% personal damage increase. if each person had that same % increase in their personal damage
the entire PT would do 10.7% more damage if all DDs ate meat and are effected the same as zeo's war was by eatting meat mithcabobs.

/em holds back the rant on people who suck at math. You don't add %...

That 25 minute period is the only time I've ever went without food at birds. I just wanted to eyeball quickly what the difference was to dmg %. The reason it wasn't longer was that we spent an hour getting good exp at the top camp first.

---

Seems that in most bird pt's, there is always someone who doesn't eat food. Gimp people who sub sam to make up for not eating food is a whole different thread.

(Actually I like /sam, if everyone does the same and everyone is top tier war)

I don't eat food but I'm a whm D;

No, my post is correct. The 2% gain isn't, but I wasn't arguing that in the first place. I was just pointing out that adding percentages is wrong, lol. All of the mathematical posting in this topic is really a waste of time considering we're trying to "prove" whether or not using meat vs using nothing is a good idea.

This amount of baiting is ridiculous. Keep it about the birds.

forget about all the parser and talk about the impossible to gauge rdm that kept you all alive. Also, the rdm only had ballad MAYBE half the pt. lol

One thing I always say...

If you don't notice the RDM you know you have a good one : )

Never noticed you the whole party!

unfortunately this is true

also I rarely get songs from the bard because he/she is so busy and I don't really fall behind either it just means more time given until I may use convert

I admit i don't merit on brd often (or at all, lol) but i've found most RDMs can get by with just Ballad2, especially since the Pianimisso(sp?) update it makes life a whole lot easier to only sing 3 pt songs, rather than 4. Ofcourse if i notice the RDM struggling for mp i'll make the effort to sing Ballad1 aswell, but *generally* it's not needed.

I have a brd too and i only give Ballad2 to the rdms. The only time I give a rdm both ballads is when i use Nightingale. If a rdm cant manage just w/ ballad2 and santion refresh then there is something wrong w/ that rdm lol.
