The virtue of Absolute Virtue

Tyrath, you an expert on Square-Enix?

No. But I can recognize patterns. When someone does something over and over, its easy to tell what their intentions are.

I called what was gonna happen in that maint, and lo and behold, I was right.

The image I posted pissed a few people off so let me just explain.

I've been playing since before AV even was created and I've probably read almost all there is to know about this mob. I really believe SE designed this mob to be this way. All the constant speculation, hundreds maybe thousands of topics across the webs in englisdh, japanese, french german from various FFXI sites, from the ffxi information sites to HNMLS web forums discussing strats and what not...

Dozen upon dozens of strats tried out by HUNDREDS, maybe thousands of players across FFXI since the dawn of AV's existence and We've managed to find glitch after glitch after glitch. I saw someone else mention this and as they said, that would take alot of testing.

On another note, Japanese, the original veterans who dominated this game, who still populate a large % of FFXI these days, have THEM SELFS, not been able to figure this out.

Sure, there probably is some way to defeat this mob to little to no trouble, I think there is, but I also think its either the following: ridiculously stupid and under our noses and we wouldn't even think to consider it or its so disgustingly complex, not a single pplayer among hundreds, maybe thousands of hardcore endgame veterans still cant figure out.

Either way, I think SE is marketing AV among the community in such a way, that is not only unfair but was actually unhealthy and got them bad press (18hr fight..).
Also.. on another note, you have to wonder... If you read BG, people who quit this game long ago, still read and talk about AV on the forums. This is a huge thing to think about. Av itself is sucha huge topic of interest among the majority if players it in my opinion in some crazy way, keeps people talking and interested in the game. As weird as that sounds its true and if you think about it, with FFXI player base on an ALL TIME LOW, why would SE want us, the player base to defeat this mob that has drawn so much attention to FFXI good and bad. especially since so many, some of who don't even play anymore still are fascinated by this mob.

I don't think they ever wanted us to defeat it. However, I think there is a way to beat it, I just think they knew exactly what they were doing when they designed by mobs behavior and if you see their reaction to us, the player base; after several groups managed to kill it. you can clearly see what SE is keeping a close eye on this mob and you can bet they enjoy all the attention and press they get from players who are troubled by its behavior and the way the fight is designed.

So in conclusion, this mob is meant to be this way. They do NOT want us to kill and its designed in sucha way that they can be so sure it just wont happen. If you really want SE to change this you should simply send comments and suggestions.

The power of the FFXI community is strong. When we really want something changed, and work together, we can get it changed. Back when all the hackings started and SE refused to help us we kicked some major ass as a community and got them to change their policies. I don't think we will make much progress with AV. I think its bullshit and they are using it as a marketing tool to keep ppl interested by giving us bullshit updates and stupid videos.

I mean really, you remember the update when ppl said AV behavior was changed? Big stuff. and the Video? Yep, that too. A lot of press goes into this mob. When anything about AV is released or even said in interviews its such a big deal among the player base. Keeps the money coming in and in their pocket.

I'm a little fuzzy on the details as I stopped reading most Av speculation threads 2 years after he meteor spammed my sea LS and its was as quite obvious then (as it is now) AV threads aren't so much about finding a solution anymore. Wasn't there an interview with Sage Sundi regarding AV where he stated it would take 18hrs?

You stopped reading AV speculation threads 2 years ago... but your posting in this one?... Let alone you claim to feel that this thread isn't about finding a solution?

Look, if you feel that theres some form of compelling power telling you to post here then step back from this thread. Had you actually read any of this thread you'd realise this is a speculation thread. The only thing people are griping about at the moment is how SE has nerfed DRKclubing AV to death. The rest of the thread contains smartass comments or info pertaining to AV pre and post nerfs. Once more had you read any of this thread, you'd know where the link is for Sage-sundi saying AV is an 18 hour+ fight. :awesome:

Also to add go reread pages 11-13.

You have too much faith in SE.

No, I am just as skeptical of SE as the next. The reason they nerfed kraken DRK zerg was because AV has so much appeal. It brings a lot of publicity to SE and FFXI, both good and bad. It brings about a lot of discussion and debate, far more than the average end game event simply because it's undefeatable. To make it defeatable and by only a few groups or rather a specific job is undermining to the appeal and more to the point, dissappointing especially when it's just a zerg.

No. But I can recognize patterns. When someone does something over and over, its easy to tell what their intentions are.

A lot of people called it, I know I did. It was obvious they wanted to keep the appeal of the "correct" method of defeating AV. What really surprised me was that they didn't nerf it immediately after people attempted to zerg it and prevent any possible wins by the player base using an "incorrect" method.

Well, they technically did nerf it as soon as possible, but just as with the Wall of Justice Glitch the players managed to get a few kills in before the adjustment.

EDIT: Ignore

While meditating on the mountains this morning, I realized something.
SE doesn't have a legitimate way of beating AV. They just want us to discover new ways to beat him then patch the way. Not immediately, but give people a few days to exploit the method and then patch it.
That's why the update wasn't until a few days after people started zerging AV :O

Someone at BG had the same thought, AV exists for the players to beta test for SE lol

This thread has required little to no moderation, especially recently. There have been some great, not so great and some out-there theories that I personally love reading.

Keep it civil or it stops.

Thanks.

Also you're lil image didn't piss me off as so much as I felt you didn't know how to read and applied a poorly drawn smile on an Aern image saying "Why so serious".

Also to add or possibly educate yourself on go reread pages 11-13.

You know what? For someone who is commenting on another persons spelling/grammar (which is the dumbest thing to do online because the majority of the time you make errors yourself) you sure did make a lot of spelling errors.

It sounds like you have major attitude. Did I offend you? Maybe its because I'm not taking you or this AV thread seriously? Well, I don't mean to be rude but unlike you, I've actually fought Absolute Virtue and please do not be offended but its REALLY, REALLY hard to take a tarutaru dragoon with no HNMLS, No big sea LS with aspirations to defeat Absolute Virtue, seriously.

As I've said earlier, I don't read much into AV threads so I don't get the opportunity to comment on the suggestions but I can tell you theres a 99.9% chance everything you have suggested: Has been tried already.

If you are going to get mad at every person who jokes in your precious AV speculation thread and throw a tantrum, expect not to be taken seriously.

EDIT: What the hell, I'll play along. Someone in my LS suggested trying to fight him with No 2hours up. You never know!

Faded? Why do you think threads like these continually pop up?

There is a good amount of appeal to players who have never even touched AV and it brings about a lot of thought on the subject. Perhaps for a great many who have spent a lot of time dwelling and even attempting to defeat AV, it's a sore spot, but for a good few it sparks some excitement. Seriously, who here wouldn't want to be the one who says "I beat the impossible, I beat AV" and take all the glory with it?

Oh the irony of what happens after Morwen's post.

Im not here to attack you and nowhere did in my statement comment on your grammar or spelling. I'm only implying you to read and see whats been considered and what has not.

Also I have been up against AV, albeit not the best possible ways, but i have. The problem is you, not me and this thread is to discuss topics on AV. You putting a "Batman" related picture saying why so serious isn't discussing AV.

Never did I say I was mad at or against you. I called you out for being a Hypocrite and if you want to, take it to the flameboard. This is end-game discussion last I checked and I would like to keep it that way.

Thanks~

Edit: Yes everything I had suggested in the beginning has been tried already. Thats why I've gone back and relooked at AV differently and with newer perspective.

Oh the irony of what happens after Morwen's post.

No rest for the wicked.

Moink and Amerie. I'm going to say this one last time. I know neither of your posts are outright anger or hostility, but that is certainly the growing tone.

Tone it down and talk about the topic, which is AV, or take it elsewhere.

Whatever peels your banana sweety. AV's been defeated before but I guess I can see your point. I don't care about HNM enough to let it make me feel accomplished or glorified. Its a video game. I just do my best for all the people I care about and i've been so successful in that. .;)

I stand corrected Moink. You didn't say anything about that and I can understand if you take it seriously and don't want people like myself derailing with dumb jokes so I apologize.

Back on topic, how many times was AV defeated on quetz? I'm only aware of Kaizens victory, which if I'm correct, sets yet another landmark for Quetz as well as their LS. Congrats.

LS years ago killed it via glitch so it's not 1st kill but 1st Quetz kill with some NAs

I believe that AV right now is unkillable and that there really is no way to kill it. I think a great idea that was mentioned on BG is that there is a contest for FFXI. The winning server has the dev team come to that server and kill AV on our server and not there bullshit Atomos server. So the people on our server can watch them in person and the fight would be broadcasted on PoL. They have no excuse not to do this. It is only a > 2hour fight instead of an 18 hour fight so that excuse can't be used. They can't complain about lag(hello kings and besieged).

Also, I love these comic strips.
