Chapter VII - Journey to Boyahda Tree

Aaleel sat by the fire the Elite had made, as they camped in the shadow of the Crag of Mea, where they had traveled from the Valley of Sorrows. They had defeated the second of the Dark Gods of the dark realm, and even though the spirit of light that had been released told her that she had become wiser, she only had more unanswered questions. How did she come to have this blade if its powers were forged beyond the borders of her realm in Theallis itself? How come Yuriel had held so much from her?
“Aal, go to sleep, you more than any of us need to rest and recover your strength,” Miyatsumi said, as she threw some broken stems of grass into the fire.
“I’m fine Miya, I just need to think about some things,” Aaleel said looking at Syuji.
“How you received a weapon forged in lands outside our own?” Miyatsumi asked.
“Where did this blade come from, and how did my father come to possess it?” Aaleel replied.
“If it was all written into the destiny of this world long ago perhaps no one has the answers you seek,” Miyatsumi said.
“Yuriel knows,” Aaleel snapped back.
“She has to know the circumstances that brought this blade to my family, for she had to know of the prophecy that spoke of me,” she added, as she got up and walked away from the fire looking into the darkness of the night sky, where there were no stars to be seen.
“But why would she not tell me?” Aaleel said shaking her head.
“Why would she start me down this path without telling me everything there was to tell,” she added.
“I guess those are questions that you must ask her,” Miyatsumi said.
“But such a time will not be possible unless we accomplish our task here, and for that you will need to rest,” she added, as Aaleel turned around and nodded her head. She walked back by the fire, settled onto the hard ground, and rested her head on her pack. She smiled as she watched a tiny mandragora walk past her. She looked at the four leaf bud on its head, and wondered if that was a sign of good things to come from the wanning spirit of light in the realm. There was a bellowing howl from a Barghest, which did not stop her from letting the events of the day take to sleep.

They awoke early in the morning, with only the very top of the dark sun showing on the horizon. They started their march over the dry and cracked terrain of Tahrongi Canyon, where many tall Dhalmel walked about towering over the company.
“Look, those crawlers are weaving silk,” Kerowynn said, as Aaleel darted to the top of the hill overlooking the main road through the canyon. She pulled her fingers to her lips and told the company to be silent, as she and Nocturnus leapt to the road. Nocturnus knelt to the ground and touched the faint tracks in the hard soil with his hand.
“Chocoboo,” he said standing to his feet, and looking around.
“But I do not recall seeing any chocoboo since we entered this realm, only broken stables,” he added before Aaleel told him to be silent again.
“Do you hear that?” Aaleel asked, as she sprinted north up the road followed by Nocturnus, and soon the faint drumming in Aaleel’s head turned into rumbling of many talons upon the ground. Aaleel looked to a cloud of dust approaching her which took the form of a pack of chocoboo speeding across the canyon. Aaleel drew Syuji, and held it before her in the face of the stampede of chocoboo approaching.
“Aal, move,” Nocturnus yelled, as he ran off the road, but Aaleel did not heed his call, and remained steadfast in the face of the fast moving birds. They slowed as they light of Syuji grew brighter, and finally they stopped in front of her. They were in various shades from gray to dark black, but they made no menacing move towards her, instead they kweped loudly as they looked upon the light on the blade. She walked slowly towards on of the birds and placed her hand on its head.
“You are noble creatures in our realm, and I hope that the spirit of light in stronger in you than any other creature in this dark place,” she said rubbing her hand over the birds head.

“Will you aid us in our journey to the great forest of Zi’Tah,” Aaleel asked as the chocoboo began kwep again. Aaleel smiled as she turned and looked to the rest of the Elite who stood apprehensively off the road, as Aaleel talked to the chocoboo.
“Come on, they will help us,” Aaleel said, as the chocoboo she had touched on the head bent down, and allowed her to mount it. The other chocoboo began to kwep loudly as the Elite approached them, and one by one the chocoboo bent to the ground, and allowed the Elite to ride them.

“It is about time these birds paid us back for all the troubles they give us while we raise them in our realm,” Zodiaque said, as she climbed into her chocoboo. When all were upon chocoboo, they agile birds sprang away up the road towards the Meriphataud Mountains, which lied just north of where they had come across the chocoboo. They had rode the wind upon the backs of the chcoboo for many minutes before they came upon a narrow pass, which signaled the beginning of the mountains. There was one main road that passed through the Meriphataud Mountains as well, but it would take the company far west, and add much time to their journey. Luckily the chocoboo were able to navigate the hard terrain without much problem, allowing the company to pass the lands of the mountains in far less time than they would have on foot upon the main road.
“How do we know that they do not bring us to a trap and our doom?” Sanborn said, as he rode atop his chocoboo.
“We have no choice, for the darkness is where we must travel to complete our task in this place,” Aaleel said looking to Sanborn.
“Besides I do not sense any evil in these animals at all, not even the stain of evil that lies upon all other creatures in this realm,” she added.
“Perhaps we are receiving aid from beyond the walls of this realm,” Duncanrun said.
“Perhaps,” Aaleel said as they continued across the hard lands of the mountains.

They had spent the better part of the day rising across the mountains on the chocoboo, when they began to see a large wall of bone rising from the horizon.
“Imig-Til, the Dragon’s Tail,” Aaleel said, as they came quickly upon the wall. She looked up as they passed beneath it, through the dark shadows separating them from the northern parts of the mountains. The chocoboo turned their path east, as they leapt onto the main road passing quickly by the Yagudo camps, and packs or coeurls roaming the mountains.
“I wonder if the yagudo stronghold of Castle Oztroja is as mighty as it is in our realm,” Nikoloi said, as he looked to the east, but could not see the castle through the blowing dirt.
“Perhaps, for much killing and greed goes on in that place in our realm, so I would not be surprised if much evil abounds within those walls,” Aaleel said shaking her head.
They had been in the mountains for the entire day, when the turned their path north and entered that last thin canyon, which lead out of the mountains.

They finally emerged into the Sanctuary of Zi’Tah, and Aaleel sighed heavily as the chocoboo stopped upon entering.
“What is it Aaleel?” Zodiaque asked, as Aaleel looked around the great forest saddened by the sight of the cracked and broken trees, whose boughs were naked of leaf or bulb.
“This is one of the most beautiful of lands in our realm, but here it has fallen to despair and darkness, and no longer holds any beauty,” she said, as pieces of dried and broken brush blew across the path before them.
“Do not waste your tears here Aal, this place is not meant to be a place of happiness, but more a dungeon for those who gave up their right to view such beauties,” Kahlann said, as she looked around.
“But the time is late, and bodies are weary, we cannot make the ride to the Boyahda Tree this night,” Nocturnus said, as Aaleel nodded her head. The company dismounted their chocoboo, which began to kwep loudly before they darted off into the forest. Aaleel was the last to dismount her chocoboo, and she placed her hand on its head, and thanked it for its help. The chocoboo kweped loudly one last time before it turned from the company and ran off into the forest as well. Aaleel looked about the area, and as always she did not trust the goblins who were near to them, nor did she trust the funguar that roamed near to them as well.
“Make a fire and camp for the night here, but keep close eye on those goblins, for I do not trust them,” Aaleel said, as Nocturnus nodded his head, and they began to gather some of the abundant brush and cracked wood to make a fire. Aaleel settled onto the hard land, and did not waste much time thinking of things past or things to come, she rested her head on her pouch, and let sleep take her.

They arose to rays of the dark sun trickling ever so softly down through the bare boughs of the trees onto their camp. Aaleel ate from her dwindling supply of bread and rice, as others were peeling away their last strips of meat jerky, and biting their final pieces of fruit. Aaleel counted the number of days it would take to complete the task if all things go well, and she knew in her heart that it was chance that they may run out of food before they accomplished their task, and be forced to risk feasting upon the animals of the dark land.

They picked up camp quickly, and started east into the shadows from the boles of the gray skinned trees, as they hugged the steep right ridge of the sanctuary, which would lead them to the entrance of the Boyahda tree. Aaleel and Nocturnus, along with Duncanrun had discussed in private the food situation, and Nocturnus set a hard, fast pace through the forest, as they made haste to the tree.
They spent many hours traveling along the ridge until the came to a wooden arch made by the trunk of one of the trees, and they knew that they were nearing the boarders of the Boyahda tree. They passed beneath the arch, as the sun started upon its downward curve in the sky signaling that the day was coming to an end. Nocturnus pressed on south through the forest until they came upon the small pond. Aaleel gave the company pause so that she could purify the water, which allowed the company to replenish their skins with fresh water. There were Goobbue Gardener’s all about the area towering over the company, but they did not attack them, for there job was only to keep eye over the forest. They continued south until they began to see the light of a glowing stone, which signaled the entrance to the Boyahda Tree, and beside it stood a Rock Golem, which shook the ground as it walked. Aaleel looked to the sky where the sun was passing behind the last of the trees before it would disappear behind the horizon.
“We should make camp here for the night Aaleel, for there will not be any place to make camp within the tree where the monsters will not fall upon us and attack us as we sleep,” Nocturnus said, as Aaleel nodded her head, and the company began to make camp.
Aaleel took the first watch so that she could discuss the path through the tree with Nocturnus and Nikoloi.
“It will be a long climb through the tree to the Dragon’s Aery, and all mobs attack us if they find us,” Nikoloi said.
“We must be very careful on our climb, for even through the skill of the Elite, we cannot fight back the entire tree,” Aaleel said.
“Avoiding the crabs on the lower level will be easy, it is the upper floors that give me cause for concern,” Nocturnus said. “Though it is only a short jaunt from the top of the tunnel to the waterfall, there are still many fiends to bar our path,” he added.
“Well we have long way to travel in the morning, so I will leave the two of you to the watch,” Aaleel said, as she settled upon the ground, and went to sleep by the fire.

They rose early in the morning and started into the Boyahda Tree, which was home to many forms of creatures. They made their way into the first passage which was full of spiders, but they did not attack the company.
“I really hate spiders,” Zodiaque said, as she walked past looking at all of the spiders, who were climbing about the wall spinning webs.
“Do not worry Zod, these are not the ones we must worry about,” Nocturnus said, as they continued through the passages until they came to a room with many Death Caps. They made their way slowly through the next passage until they came to a room with a large tree in the center, and many crabs and Mourioche. They walked over near the waterfall, and waited for the crabs to move away from the wall, and when they were far enough away to not detect their passing, the company dashed across the water. Almost all of the Elite had crossed the water, when suddenly the water exploded, and Zodiaque fell to the ground reaching into the water towards the bottom of her leg.

“Aquarius,” Nikoloi said, as the large crab held Zodiaque’s ankle within its claws. Nikoloi, who was guarding the rear, reached into his quiver, and sent arrows flying into the shell off the crab, causing it to let go of Zodiaque and turn to him. Jimm and Sanborn helped Zodiaque from the water, as the others lured the crab out of the water onto the land so that its kin could not come to its aid. It tried to grab Aaleel, but only succeeded in tearing through one of her images, as she came up behind the crab and slashed through it with her katana.

“We know that you have entered the final leg of your quest Child of Prophecy, and now the entire tree will set itself against you,” Aquarius said, swinging at Aaleel again, who jumped away just as shards of fire slammed down onto the crab from the black mages. The crab settled to the ground, as erected a shield around itself, which blocked the attacks of the many Elite attacking it.
“Remove the shield surrounding our foe,” Miyatsumi said as a veil fell over the crab, and its shield disappeared. They continued to cast spells and beat upon the crab with their weapons until the creatures movements slowed drastically, and it fell to the ground.
“You did not wish to release the spirit of this monster Aal?” Kerowynn asked.
“As much as I desired to, I must conserve my strength for the Wyrm God,” Aaleel replied.
“Are you all right Zod,” Aaleel asked, as she turned as looked to Zodiaque, who set upon the ground holding her ankle.

“I will be shortly,” Zodiaque said, as her hands began to glow with white light. She stood to her feet and tested her ankle, before she nodded her head, and the company continued on through tree. They came to a small ledge and leapt down to the floor below, where they saw a large Old Goobbue meandering about, which they easily avoided. They came to another tree surrounded by crabs and knight crawlers, and without notorious monster trouble they eased their way around the crabs, and made their way to another large room, where there were only Mourioche wandering aimlessly about. They went slowly up a steep slope until they came looked into a room filled with Old Goobbue, Skimmers, and Steelshell crabs, and Korrigan.
“Come let us hug the wall, it is not far to the waterfall,” Nocturnus said, as they waited for the Old Goobbue to walk away, and made their way to the waterfall. But unbeknownst to them, there was a steelshell resting upon a flat landing in the falls, and it rushed up the slope towards them.

“Kill it quickly,” Nocturnus said, as he sent a arrow into the crab, and the mages cast spells of fire upon it defeating it quickly. They made their way to the bottom of the waterfall, where they were forced to engage two more crabs, which they made quick work of as well. It was another short jaunt across the area until they came to a slope, where Nocturnus slowed the pace of the company greatly.

“What is it Noc?” Kerowynn asked, as she looked about the dim passage.
“I can see them in my mind, as I see creatures upon the open range, but the spiders that I see in my mind do not appear before me,” he said, but before he could utter another world strands of web fell from above and snagged the ranger within its midst. Nikoloi looked to the ceiling and fired an arrow into the darkness, where a loud cry was heard, and Nocturnus dropped back to the ground. Bark tarantula began to fall from the ceiling and surround the company who pulled their backs to each other, and readied themselves to fight. Kahlann used her shield to block the strikes of the tarantula’s legs which were like long swords, and the company began to scatter about the narrow passage. It was hard to maneuver in the tight passage, and many of the Elite were slashed by the legs of the spiders.

“That is why it was so easy for us to reach this point, they have been setting a trap for us,” Aaleel said as the tarantula tore through her shadows, and she disappeared into the shadows of the passage. There were still monsters upon the ceiling who sprayed down strings of webs to entangle some of the Elite, and pull them to the ceiling to devour them.
“I do not think so,” Aaleel said, as she leapt from the wall, and threw her chakram, which sliced through the webs, and freed her fellow warriors. She fell to the ground, and dodged the slash of a tarantula before she caught her chakram and used it along with her katana to slash through the head of the spider, and kill it.
“Look out San,” Jimm said as he sent a sphere of chi energy into a spider who was creeping slowly down the wall towards Sanborn. Unphazed used the agility of the ninja to avoid the strikes of one of the spiders before he call images to his side, and sent them flying through the monster bringing it to the ground.

“They still have us boxed in,” Nocturnus said, as he fired an arrow into the head of one of spiders. The company did its best to stay together and the spiders continued to creep out of the shadows of the passage.
“Elements of the darkness seal these creatures within this spell,” Kerowynn said as air swirled around her body. She opened her eyes, which were alive with light, and she cast a powerful spell that brought the movements of all the tarantulas to a halt.
“Quickly, while they are asleep,” Kerowynn said, as all the mages began to cast spells, and soon streams of ice began to crash down upon the spiders, which cried out in pain, as they scattered about.
“Feel the power of the great Asuran,” Eormanric said, as he unleashed a powerful flurry of punches and kicks onto the one of the spiders stilling its heart for good. He called upon the Chi flowing within him to heal his wounds and return to the fight. Carbuncle sprang from the seal of the summoner, and the ruby upon its forehead shined brightly before it cast rays of healing down upon the company to renew their strength from wounds suffered during the spiders’ assault.

“They are on the run,” Nocturnus said as he clipped one of the spiders with an arrow as it sought to escape up the wall. Aaleel threw he chakram up the wall cutting through the back legs of one of the spiders, causing it to fall to the floor where she plunged her katana into it. The last of the spiders disappeared into the shadows, as the company finally relaxed to what extent they could, and the white mages began to heal those in need.
“Do what you can while we are moving, we cannot linger here,” Aaleel said, as the company started into the path, where there we no more signs of the spiders who had attacked them. The path curled around and climbed before they came to an open area, where Aaleel looked into the shadows, as something dark entered her mind.
“Look out,” Aaleel said, as a tentacle passed through one of her images, and slammed Spellbroker into the wall knocking him unconscious.
“Spell,” Aaleel yelled as she looked to the large form growing in the shadows of the passage.
“It is Vivian,” Nikoloi shouted, as tentacles stretched from the shadows and entangled some of the Elite.
“Then let the light greet her,” Aaleel said as she raised her sword, and brought the blade to light showing the form of their enemy. Vivian dropped Norkio and used her tentacle to cover her eyes. Nikoloi sent a barrage of arrows flying into the tentacles that held Claudhert and Dantin, causing them the drop them to the floor.

“It seems that you are you master’s last line of defense, for none of the normal monsters that lie between us and the Aery will give us pause,” Aaleel said.
“And as powerful as you may be, you cannot defeat us all,” Unphazed said.
“I do not intend to, for I only have to defeat one of you,” Vivian said as the monster plunged its tentacles into the ground, which began to shake below Aaleel feet. She leapt from the ground as the tentacles rose from the ground after her. She slashed the tentacles with her katana, before a spire passed between Aaleel and the tentacles, trailing from the limbs of Ifrit. The morbol recoiled its tentacles and screamed loudly, as it slammed the tips of its tentacles on the ground trying to put out the flames.
“If you wish to harm Aaleel, you will have to go through us,” Bluewind said as Ifrit floated behind him.
“Not all of you,” the morbol said inhaling loudly, before is spewed spores from its mouth that began fall upon the party.
“Huton,” Aaleel yelled as wind surrounded her and sprang forth from her hand pushing the spores away from her and all around her. She looked around and saw that some of the Elite had been put to sleep by the spores of the morbol.
“Wake them,” Aaleel said to Zoqiaque as she and Unphazed called images of themselves and went after the morbol, which swung its mighty tentacles through the air only to have them pass through the ninjas' shadows. Zodiaque raised her hands to the air, and strands of soft light fell down upon all around her pulling them from the slumber the spores of the morbol had placed upon them. Aaleel slashed at the tentacles seeking to ensnare her before she brought the blade of Syuji to light and severed one of the tentacles from the creature. Kerowynn and Dantin sent fire raining down on the morbol burning it like a dry tree caught in the path of a wildfire. Vivian thrashed about wildly as the fire of the black mages consumed the morbol more and more.
“Come,” Aaleel said, no longer wishing to watch the agony of the creature, and though she wanted greatly to free the spirit inside the morbol, she knew that she would need to save her powers for the upcoming fight with the dark wyrms.

Who needs warcry when you have sata to bust somebody up. Maybe even bust up Duncan if aal chooses to go that route. I like the idea of being a sneaky drk rather than a barbaric drk myself. But hey its not my story, aal can do what she wants. I'm retired so I'm not expected to be in it lol.

I've only read the first two pages so far so I didn't get to far. I'm probably gonna wait until it ends, that way I can read it all the way through without the wait lol. From what I've read so far though, it looked like it was well written. Nice job Aal :)

Chapter VIII – The Final Battle in the Dark Realm

They company made their way around the end of the path, and finally came upon the entrance to the Dragon’s Aery. There was a winding hallway, but there were no signs of the darters and tarantula that inhabit it in their realm. There was only the dark mist that soiled the air in the Behemoth’s Domain before the appearance of the king of the behemoths.

“It seems that the final Dark God awaits us,” Nikoloi said, as they made their way down a sloping hill into a large room, which was shrouded in the dark mist.
“So it seems you have come all the way to the end,” a dark voice bellowed on the air.
“The Child of Prophecy has come to the Dragon’s Aery just as our lord has seen,” another voice said, as the mist began to swirl around the Aery blowing through the company.
“Ah yes, I can feel the power in this one, it is almost as of the old lands,” one of the voices said, as the mist passed over Syuji and its blade began to shine forcing the mist away from it.
“Yes yes, this power in definitely born of the old lands,” one of the voices said.
“Ah, but it seems that this mind has no knowledge of such things,” the other voice said, as Aaleel drew Syuji, and the light of its blade shined upon her entire body forcing the mist away.
“Stay out of my mind and show yourselves,” Aaleel said angrily.
“It is obvious that one of you is the spirit that inhabits Fafnir, and the other Nidhogg, so show yourselves in whatever order you wish, but you will both meet the same end nonetheless,” she added.
“You have learned much in your time in this realm, but your mind is still without true wisdom of the way of things in this place,” one of the voices said.
“For it is true that only one form can inhabit this aery in a single period of time, but that does not mean that more than one spirit cannot,” it added.

“What do you mean?” Aaleel said, as the mist began to swirl around the aery, and gather in the center. It began weaving itself together and the strands of darkness danced and wove themselves together with the precision of the most gifted cloth crater. Long curved talons led into large feet, setting underneath powerful legs. Tiny strands of darkness wove themselves into thick scales of armor upon a powerful torso, and spike of bone protruded from the back between large powerful wings. But to the surprise of the Elites the strands of darkness wove themselves into not one, but two power necks leading up to two heads both crowned in small spikes of bone, and bearing razor sharp fangs. Aaleel gripped the blade of Syuji tightly as she looked up towards the two sets of red eyes focused upon her.

“This is impossible,” Nocturnus said drawing an arrow and putting it upon the string of his bow.
“But we stand here before you nonetheless,” the head of Nidhogg said grinning, as the company drew back from the great wyrm, save Aaleel who stood steadfast in the gaze of the beast.
“I would expect nothing other, for darkness will act as darkness does, and bend even the rules of this place’s creation to fit its own evil purpose,” Aaleel said.
“Soon the darkness will gather in every corner of every realm that the light has created,” the head of Fafnir said.
“It is too late to stop it, for our Lord Galroth has already summoned an army strong enough the conquer the lands of light before it makes it way into the other realms and brings them to ruin as well,” it added.
“Our Lord will defeat Grand High Priest Zoron, and Princess Yuriel in the lands of light, and we will defeat their last hope here, preserving this realm for the day when our master will finally tear asunder the walls separating our worlds and free us so that all the worlds may be in darkness,” Nidhogg said.

“Our journey has been long through this dark place, but we have passed every trial this place has set before us, and you will be no different,” Aaleel said with great conviction.
“I think not, for it is true that you may have defeated us separately, but together you have no chance of defeating us,” Fafnir said.
“And what do we call you now, Fafdogg on Nidnir,” Aaleel said smirking, as the eyes of both heads grew angry.
“You dare mock us,” Fafnir said angrily.
“You may call us death,” Nidhogg yelled as it opened its jaws and a stream of breath streamed forward. Aaleel held Syuji before and pressed her hand against the flat of the blade, and transparent shield of light appeared before her, which diverted the wyrm’s breath attack.
“You can not parry us both,” Fafnir said, as it sent a stream of breath at Aaleel as well, but before it could reach her a wall of water climbed towards the ceiling of the aery and smothered the flames.

“Then it is well that she is not here alone,” Bluewind said as Leviathan floated in upon the air before Aaleel. Aaleel looked over her shoulder as the rest of the Elite stood about her.
“Come on this is finally the end of our journey here,” Aaleel said glaring at the wyrm.
“Do not save anything, for if we lose this battle, all the worlds may be lost,” she added, as the Elite nodded their heads. Zodiaque and Duncanrun cast spells of protection upon the company, and the Elite gathered what strength they still had after the long journey up the tree.
“Claud, Kah, each of you take a head, and try to keep it blind,” Aaleel said, as the company spread out, and went to engage the wyrm.
“You wish to attack us, then come forth to your doom,” Fafnir said, as the giant wyrm swung its giant wing, and sent a blade of air crashing through the company knocking many to the ground.
“Go Leviathan,” Bluewind yelled, as the great avater of the sea spiraled down at the wyrm knocking it backwards. Kerowynn and Dantin stood behind the others with drops of water floating about them, as their eyes shown blue. They pushed their hands forward, as two funnels of water fell from the ceiling towards the wyrm. They intertwined to become one large tornado of water, tearing through the wyrm and knocking it backwards. The mighty wyrm roared at the company before both its heads sent streams of fiery breath towards them. But before it could reach them Bluewind used the last of his power to have Leviathan cast a tidal wave of water, which absorbed the wyrm’s attack as it rushed towards their foe, slamming the wyrm into the wall of the aery.
“Good job Blue, now go rest,” Aaleel said, as she the wyrm began to rise to its feet.
“You have chosen your companions well, and though that attack was powerful, it is one that can not be repeated before the time in which this battle will end,” Nidhogg said.
“We do not need to,” Spellbroker said as the leapt into the air and slashed into the heavy scales of the wyrm. Eormanric next released a flurry of strikes upon the wyrm, as a sphere of dark energy appeared above it.
“The power of darkness cannot harm us,” Fafnir said, but before it could utter another word, a whirlpool of water swirled around it, slamming shut upon it and knocking it to the ground.
“That may be so Dark God, but our magic can,” Kerowynn said.
“You will pay for such insolence,” Nidhogg said, as Kahlann and Claudhert gathered in front of the wyrm with some of the other Elite.

“You will have to pass through us,” Kahlann said holding her shield before her.
“Such things are not so hard,” Fafnir said, as the company was knocked back by the currents of wind created as the beast flapped its mighty wings and took to the air above the small cracked, leafless trees. I flew over the forward fighters of the Elite, and glared down upon the black mages, before it sent streams of flame down upon them.
“Protect them Claud,” Kahlann yelled, as her body along with Claudhert’s vanished in flashes of light, and appeared before the black mages.
“Get down behind me,” Kahlann yelled.
“Kah NO!” Kerowynn yelled as she knelt behind Kahlann, and Dantin behind Claudhert, just as the flames swept across the two paladin, burning away some of their armor, and scorching their shields. They both fell backwards on top of the black mages, who were barely burned at all, and Kahlann looked up to see the wyrm hovering above them.
“Your sacrifice will be in vain, you cannot stop us again,” Nidhogg said, as it dropped from the air, talons pointed at the fallen paladins and black mages.
“Power of the light protect us,” Kahlann said, as the shields of light surrounded her body as they did in the Behemoth’s Domain. Claudhert called upon the same powers, and the talons of the wyrm were stopped feet before they could reach their destination.
“You are resourceful indeed,” Fafnir said, as the wyrm took to the air again.
“But such powers will not stop our flames from finishing you,” Nidhogg said.
“It may not, but I can,” Aaleel said.
“You cannot harm us, we are beyond your reach,” Nidhogg said, as streams of light began to burn upon Aaleel, before into the shadows cast down by the great wyrm, and drove the tip of Syuji’s blade into the ground. She called the seal of light around her, and sent it rising into the air upon a pillar of white light, striking the wyrm and burning its entire body with white fire as it pushed through the wyrm. Aaleel pulled Syuji from the ground, and though she was weakened by using such power she moved out of the way before the wyrm slammed upon the floor of the aery.
“Is it over?” Jimm asked, as he helped Aaleel to her feet.
“Weakened maybe, but I do not think it is defeated,” Aaleel replied through heavy breaths. There was a moment of silence before the wyrm began to stir upon the floor of the aery, and slowly it stood back to its feet. Both of its wings were torn, and many of the horns upon its head were broken and cracked, along with some of its talons. It slowly turned towards Aaleel, stumbling slightly from its injuries, before it glared down upon her. It tried to create a blade of wind with its wing, nut they were too badly damaged to fly, or perform the attack.
“You have grown strong indeed, but you still have not defeated us,” Nidhogg said.
“Maybe not, but even you must know now, such things are inevitable,” Aaleel said, as Jimm sent a blast of Chi energy into the body of the wyrm knocking it backwards.
“Eye of the eagle aid us,” Nikoloi said as his bow began to shine, and upon the string grew the form of a white bird, whose wings spread in magnificence as it sprang from the string, and flew towards the wyrm with threads of white light streaming from the tips of it wings. It pierced the scales upon the wyrm’s chest, and passed through it emerging from its back before it swopped around and returned to Nikoloi’s bow. Black blood ran from the mouth of the wyrm as it struggled to stand once again.
“We are not beaten yet, you shall not redeem your world,” Nidhogg said through coughs and running blood.
“We will still defeat you,” Fafnir said as both heads opened their mouths, which began to glow with fire. Aaleel clinched the guard of Syuji tightly, as they sent streams of flame towards her. But even as the company of the Elite scattered, Aaleel remained steadfast in its path, as her body began to shine as never before. She opened her eyes, which were burning with white flame, and soon four images of pure light appeared around.
“This is over,” she said, as the images leapt toward the wyrm, deflecting its breath, as they continued on to deliver the final blows, piercing it through the chest, head and neck. It fell to the ground with a loud roar of pain, and did not rise again. Aaleel slammed the blade of Syuji upon the ground, and a blade of white light sped towards the fallen wyrm cleaving it in two, before in exploded in black flame. Aaleel fell to her knees as the rest of the Elite rushed to her side, and when the black flame finally cleared the bodies of a Hume and a Galka lay upon the ground.
