FFXIV hasnt been "That" bad for awhile now though. Every patch has added more and more to make it worth while. they have truly turned this game around and with 2.0 coming, its only destined to get better! I'm damn surprised more people haven't come back to give it a go, especially with the legacy program and 2.0 coming. I keep reading how bad it sucks, but never read how anyone actually came back to try the new content...because those who have are still playing lol!
Sucks this place did die though because of the server confusion, i joined Istory and am still on the server we merged into.

Eh, I cashed out $25 for 3 months a few months or so ago just to get Lagacy in the event I actually like 2.0. Still, I go out to do something and log off 20-30 minutes later, it's just so bad not only in a FF sense but in an online game sense. There are just so many other, better games to be in to right now than this. I'll agree, there have been a lot of changes in attempt to make the game better, but the base game is just so bad and that's something you can't go fixing pre 2.0.

The only reason I've set myself up for 2.0 is because Square Enix is actually doing things this time, not some Chinese dev house that SE subbed it out to while they pointed a few fingers and made a few phone calls. Hopefully they can do the impossible, after all XI was the best online game I had and have ever played, and they know how awful XIV is, so I'm willing to take that chance on them, once anyways.

Legacy system? Hmm.. You know I know another MMO that has something called a Legacy system.. How original Square.

Yet to be honest, if they were to add Dark Knight back into the game like they added a lot of the other FFXI classes, I probably would be sold in coming back. I still can't believe they didn't add battle scythes (not the puny harvesting kind) and great swords. What were they thinking? I've never been a fan of axes, great axe or normal. Give me Dark Knight and I'll play XIV again. Hell, give me great swords and I might even reconsider. Without those though I am just not interested because I can't play what/how I would like to in this type of FF mmo, not after XI anyway.

I still wish they'd open up FFXI free of monthly fees :\ I'm sure they could work out something to make ends meet.

I figured the site died cause the admins mostly disappeared and the site had problems where it was down for awhile at points and that kinda made people who were in a habit of checking it out stop. Just my guess.

It's a variety of factors. Attempting to broaden the scope of the site was probably ill-advised; things likely would have functioned better if there had in fact been an "official" server. Down time, Reeve's perpetual absences, and other random mishaps added their own burden.

That's not going to happen anytime soon. There are still a lot of people playing the game and as such paying the fee. And really, the only way they could insert a cash shop model would be through a pay-to-win schema, then what's the point of the game even. Pre-Abyssea I could think of a few things they could have done, but Abyssea made this game so easy I really don't see what cash shop options they'd have left. Not to mention, going free-to-play, would completely devalue the game (through typical free-to-play models) for a lot of folks, myself included.

Exactly! And a lot of them are free.

I've been wanting the same thing. I'm 90% sure they could make micro-transactions work out. Cosmetic stuff and stuff that you can already get in game but just takes a lot of time to get.

Well I don't know how much has changed since ToAU. It's been awhile since I played (like 2007?) So ya... but I could see them making mounts or cosmetic stuff sellable or maybe exp boosts or something. I'm sure they could do SOMETHING. It'd be cool at least to have them do what EQ did :P

People in game still talk about this site but they never visit.

It's because the game is so different from those days that I can't see a cash-shop model working. That's just me though, I very may well be overlooking some things other people may catch. Funny you bring up XP boosts though, I was going to use them as an example in how they wouldn't work. You see, with Abyssea in play now, once you hit level 30 you can simply go leech to 99 in no time at all. Granted not everyone knows people to get in on this, but a good majority of people do by now I'd imagine. I thought though, it'd help get to 30, but then I remembered the book changes and how it only ever took me a good 9-10 hours to get to 30 solo. I'm sure it'd make them a little money, but not nearly what they're making now on sub fees. They could put in a cosmetic shop, but then again, they could also do that as well as keep running the sub fee and people would still pay-to-play as well as buy mounts, cosmetic items, etc. There is just no way for either side to truly win in a free-to-play model with this game best I can imagine.

Bleh, no edit so here goes another.

I could see the game, a few years from now, when it's dead possibly opening up as free-to-play with some ridiculously pay-to-win scheme. This'll be when the game is pretty much dead save for maybe a single servers worth of people. At that point though, they have to weigh the option of do they want to end the game with class and dignity, or milk it. Hard to say what they'd go with, people will remember this move in their future online games, and whether they were there for the end or not, will hold it against them, as they should. Another option, and the most likely, I see them shutting the game down and making the source public, this use to happen a lot with PC games. This would allow people to set up private servers, very good, stable ones. Personally I'd set-up a single-player like server out of the game and have a blast playing through it like a normal game.

YOU DON'T LOVE ME ANYMORE BLAZE! IT WAS ALL A GAME!

Have you even seen your son?! He asks about you all the the time...

All I can do is point at Home Improvement reruns and say "Daddy is off playing pastry chef with that boy there."

Now if you excuse me, I've got some mutual CBT to do with the Saget.

Maybe if you didn't always leave so much cheetos residue in my bed, we might have worked something out, but for now at least, unless you can change, that "boy" is much tidier and much much more well kept.

I quit coming because I (correctly) thought that the idea of changing the website's name was incredibly stupid and would turn off a lot of the regulars. That coupled with the fact that I don't play ffxi anymore and never got into ffxiv ended my interest in this site. If all my friends stuck around the site, I would've at least stayed and posted here. Oh well.

Good to hear from ya Rappa.

Naw that was just FFXI in general. Back when I played seriously I had a pretty crappy job with not a lot of hours and when I finally got a different job it wasn't that much better which still allowed me time to play such a time dedicated game. Honestly if FFXI were to come out today there would be no way I'd ever have the time to sit down and actually accomplish anything in it, assuming it launched like it originally launched. (not with all the new added easy mode stuff it has now)

Lately I'm lucky just to be able to sit down and play a couple hours of Boarderlands 2 with my buddies at the end of the night. Even then I find myself staying up later than I should be.

Damn Westyle, you're talkin about the flameboard and I don't even get a mention? Lol @ you all having the same avatars for the last 10 years btw.
