Sooo here goes.. I am caught between a rock and a hard place.

I have 5 h2h merits currently for MNK. I was contemplating eva merits and dagger merits but..... I want to merit more than one weapon either capping
h2h or GK when the time comes (next melee project)... So its one or the other Dagger or Eva... I cant decide ><

HELP!

Dagger w/o question. Your highest skill is Evasion already and THF have oodles of gear they can get to compensate further if needed. There is little or nothing that can replace weapon skill, especially for THF.

Keep in mind though, that SE has time and again admitted they did not expect so many people to have greater than 2-3 lv75 jobs on a single character causing a deficit in equip space and merit slots. While the equipment remains the biggest factor they're looking into, its been offhandedly mentioned that they would be looking at merits in the generalized categories.

Well, look at it this way.. Monk has A+ h2h so getting 8/8 h2h wouldn't be as beneficiary/necessary as for say getting 8/8 dagger because thiefs dagger is A-. And again, THFs evasion is A+.
That being said, it makes more sense for you to do 8/8 dagger. Unless you want to be a THF using sushi and an acc build, or you can be a THF using haste and meat, depending on what you do of course. But I guarantee you'll want the 8/8 Dagger.

Personally because i use mnk and sam alot more than i use thf so i went the 8/8 gkt and h2h and 4/ dagger.

now as for eva merits... unless you solo way too much they are mostly useless.

beyond that.. for thf.. enmity up if you are serious about it and crits for other
feint 5/5 aura steal 5/5 for t2
T1 is kinda a ??? depending on how u wanna play it other than 5/5 triple

Dagger, hands down.
I have the max Eva as well, which I don't regret, but choosing between dagger and evasion is no contest.
I'm banking on SE allowing more combat merits in the future, and when they do, they'll be the first to get filled with other weapon skill increases.

This. Dagger will improve performance and unless you're solo, evasion barely does anything except maybe save you a shadow here and there, but if you kill mobs quicker, those "saved" shadows don't matter. Plus, I am with Sneaky, I believe SE is either hinting at adding more combat skill merits or possibly even changing the current system. At least, that's what it sounded like to me.

I would hafta say go dagger and eva only if you have some to spare after doing your weapons. I have 2 in eva now that I kinda regret... so I'll prolly just remove the two so I can toss them into dagger, or polearm as Drg is my new job.

Welp 1 merit in daggers, workin on more... Thanks guys

Cheers

Kick ass. Do as many as you can. They make a considerable difference.

Should I also max merit assassins charge?

in no way do i intend on derailing this post, i just dont want to start a new thread to ask the same general question except it regards whm. is it safe to say putting merits into my club skill is better than putting them to evasion? also will i see a difference in the club skill if i add merits before it is capped? i got 6 levels to go.

Depends on what tier 2 you like, and how you use your THF. If you do a lot of partying and LS stuff, you may want to diversify more than 5/5 AC. I would go with 5/5 Feint regardless if you team up or solo the majority of the time. My priority for tier 2, if I was just starting, would be Feint - 1. Then AC - 1 to have access to it. Then cap Feint to 5/5. From there do what appeals. If you like Aura Steal, add 1 at this time so you have access to it. You'll just need to decide what fits for you.

A lot of people don't care for Ambush at all, but SA+WS is a great way for a THF to deal damage, and you can do so once a minute or more frequently with SA merits. Again, depending on your play style, this might be beneficial for you, and open up more gear options, or allow for more consistancy when fighting more evasive MOBs while eating meat, etc. I had that maxed for a while just to test it and play around with it. The difference is considerable especially on higher evasion MOBs. Now I solo almost exclusively, and have dropped everything for 5/5 Feint and 5/5 AC. It's all I use, atm. You just need to weigh the options for yourself. You can always adjust, but try to make decisions based on what you use your THF for.

I'd go with Club over evasion on WHM especially. THF can make use of the evasion more so than WHM to begin with. I know it mioght appeal to bolster a weaker point, but I'd strengthen your strong points first. If you can afford to also do evasion, it can't hurt. Club will benefit you more though. Also, since you are only 6 levels from capping club, you might as well start putting merits into it. You will still gain 2 skill points for each merit added, even before cap. Just take the time and go get those last 6 natural skill points. That's as good as 3 merits! :p

As usual awesome info, tx!

I was always given the impression that AC wasn't great, especially compared to Warrior's Charge. What degree of differences have you guys noticed?

Triple Attack on call. Personally I like when I 3x attack inside weapon skills. Doing it more often is nice. But as I said before, where you place your merits depends on what you use your THF for. I'd suggest at least opening this one for everyone.

5/5 Triple Attack
2/2 Sneak Attack
2/2 Trick Attack
1/1 Whatever else, Flee or Hide :P

5/5 Assassin's Charge
5/5 Feint

Aura Steal is fun to play around with though if you want to get it, also really comes in handy sometimes. One merit in it never hurt!

Good timing on the Necro. It took me a while to realize that the date said 2009 vice 2010. Even got my hopes up with people talking about Squeenix hinting toward adding more Combat Merits. Here it is a year later, and still nothing. So much for that!
