THF use SATA (Viper Bite) Plz kthanxbai

I'm just gonna toss in my 2 cents...

Having a decent SATA set-up takes like 10 seconds to work out. I partied from lv 30 to 45 with at least 1, often 2 thieves in my party all the way. One was a friend who happened to level up with me lots, and a second thf that always seeked around same time as me, and we found that we were in parties together often.

If you seriously think a simple SATA macro is really that hard to set up, try going as dance. We have several crazy ass macros. Try violent flourish utsu set up, or our WS macro, building flourish, wild flourish, dancing edge. Hell it works just like sata cept instead of worrying about being behind someone behind the enemy, you gotta worry about delay timers and finishes.

My personal rule if you're partying with a thf, if no one else is behind the monster, just get there. I almost always am standing dead center behind the mob if no one else volunteers. I know I can take the hate, having an almost never ending supply of shadows.

And to the person that said thf is best puller. I'd say rng dnc or pup is better. rng for bolts, dnc for unlimited ammo (if they have the funds to afford a chakram) or pup if they're good at release pulling.

I'm leveling THF as a base project myself. Once I hit 55 I'm switchin to /WAR I think, mainly because TA and DA would be some srs biznezz, especially without the TP loss per hit you get from dual wield.

im so effin glad elph was my thf the whole time i lvled my nin.

10 seconds to set up SATA? Jesus thats a long fucking time to set up SATA you hit the damn thing before you enter camp have the first voke facing the way you come from the MT with back to way being pulled. when you see camp hit SATA as you should have time to hit it. the mob comes first voke you're behind tank engage.

THF use SATA (Viper Bite) Plz kthanxbai

And use it before you pull so who ever is voking first doesn't get their asses handed to them while you look for the right macro >.> PUH-LEEZ

It also means that it will be available quicker.... And if you're really nifty you can SATA onto a DD run around SATA WS right back on to the tank. ;)

Lol I'm reminded of one time I was tanking as Pld in bibiki bay and a thf was behind me so long I was wondering when he was gonna sata before or after the first voker drk got turned into hamburger...

I think I asked once "What are you doing back there baking a cake?" :)

eh melee should be behind the mob or in game terms "behind" to avoid the parry arc and with some mobs counter

never got why people like sides so much(all of the time)

I only go to the side during fights where there are two tanks, because they tend to be on opposite sides of the mob.

SATA WS??? I had gimp thieves in parties in the 60's that didn't even understand the SA part--I mean, wtf?

Last night I had not one, but TWO tanks that didn't understand the fundamentals for a SATA setup. The 1st tank was so bad, I was pulling hate with blind. I cursed him out after the final straw and he left. He did not pay attention after we patently explained to him numerous times how it works. He got it right maybe 5/30 tries.

Honestly SATA, and setting it up, IS NOT hard to do at all. When I level Ninja, PLD, and THF, and even SAM, I understood how it worked, because I understood and worked together with the other people in my party. It's not rocket science.

"Thief Gets Assassin!"
>> But I'm not 60...

"Thief Get's Assasin!"
>> By saying I am not 60, I mean that the job trait is a level 60 one, and I don't have it...

"SATA the other melee"
>> That would make them the tank...

"Why should I Voke first?"
>> To set up for SATA..

"But... Why should I voke first?"
>> Because for SATA to work the tank needs to be behind the mob and I can SATA it if you voke so we can get behind it.

"Right, but why do I have to voke first?"
>> So I can do more damage and lock hate on the tank, so you can do more damage.

"Why doesn't the tank just voke then?"
>> Because when jesus rose form the grave on Easter he ate your fucking brain.

"Thieves have assassin!"
>> ...

or...

Level 70, using dual corsair Knives, Wing earrings full time, AF in at least three spots, level 14 1 dex rings, and for some creul reason a pair of bounding boots:

"Get behind the mob! lol!"
>> Why?

"So I can SATA you! lol!"
>> Why?

"So I can do damage! lol!"
>> Not with that gear

"Can you voke first for SATA?"
>> I'm Sam/Drg

"Right, can you voke first so I can SATA?"
>> Neither Samurai, nor Draggon has Provoke as a native job ability...

"Why won't you voke?"
>> Thief has assasin!

Indeed, stupidity runs both ways.

Am I the only one that prefers splitting TA and SA?

And almost the whole way through thf and rng, I subbed war. Pull at the right distance, and have a somewhat intelligent tank to voke off, and you'll never be hit. Besides maybe puks and colibri, quick little fuckers.

I have no idea why we still have gripe threads about the details of original jobs. Even as a newer player, all the information is out there, and has been FOR YEARS. If you can't comprehend SATA and have chosen to play THF, you need to get your ass in gear and figure that shit out, stop playing THF altogether, or fully expect to be kicked from parties for being dead weight.

Only problem with splitting, especially early on, is the chance of missing one/both of the hits. Generally speaking though, I prefer the split. SA solo then TA WS the tank. It just sucks if the thf misses the SA hit, cuz then the dmg you could have dealt with a competent first voke setup is wasted because of low-lvl acc.

I am a Lv75 PLD and I love having THF's in the party. No, they might not be the best merit jobs, but, I don't merit often either =P Nothing pleases me more than TA DE plus my voke and flash, 99% of the time will hold hate for a good time (Unless Jamal uses Vorpal Blade >.> fuckin...1500+... bastard =P)

Uh... if SA is done right, it's guaranteed to hit and guaranteed to crit. Only way it'll miss is if for some reason (be it the mob moving or turning or the THF standing somewhere other than the back, or whatever) the THF isn't hitting it in the back. SA + Hide notwithstanding, in which case it works from any direction if SA + Hide can be used on that enemy.

The same is true for TA as well (except in this case you want someone between you and the mob and it doesn't matter what way the mob is facing), after Assassin shows up at level 60. It *can't* miss if done properly.

Well, that's what I meant by miss, lol.

"Tank uses voke, WAR uses Sturmwind, THF uses SA, mobs turns to WAR facing the side of the mob, thus the THF hitting the side of the mob instead." >.< All in all, it comes down having compotent players and it's not just the job.

I personally know two very good thf's, and they don't have the "elite" gear for the job either and I would vouch for them AND the job any day of the week.

So to the people that say the job sucks, you might think so, but overall it doesn't. It is very useful for a multitude of situations. I think so many people came to that conclusion because there are so many bad players, or players who just are not that good at the job. With so many people on the server, you're bound to have a lot of people who are crappy at a job or two, haha. (Sometimes more >.>)

Ever try: Fuidama {Can I have it?}

It's not as common knowledge as it used to be, but people should try to learn some key JP phrases.

THF---> TANK---> MOB---> <---DD

{Thief} ---> {Shield}--->{Monster}---><---{Warrior}{Dark Knight w/e}

There is no auto-translate for the term: tank, but they understand {Shield}.

Please stop using {Reward} in shouts it means "Give to pet".
