Thieves

I seriously doubt me shoving $20 worth of stuff into my pockets is gonna cause a supply shortage on the shelves because I've bankrupted them.

Logic failure here.

While it is essentially correct to say that you stealing from a store isn't going to bankrupt them, that's largely irrelevant. In a smaller scale, if someone stole $1 from you, you'd hardly even notice. If everyone you encountered over the course of the day did, however, it'd be significantly more painful.

Petty theft isn't a problem on an individual scale, it's a problem when it's widespread.

I would welcome you to try. And if you somehow succeeded I wouldn't hold a grudge against you.

Leaving aside the trivial difficulty involved in beating someone trying to make off with your things, I doubt you'd welcome me to try. Realistically, you'd run like hell, try desperately to get away, and probably resort to dropping the purloined item in a vain attempt to dissuade me. It's what everyone else has done, after all.

If you don't run, after all, the only thing I have to do is call the cops. No need to expose myself to potential liability.

No shit Sherlock. I'm not talking about everyone else, I'm talking about ME. It's not my fault if a bunch of other people are stealing as well.
That's just like saying, "one vote matters". No, one vote, in a Presidential election, does not make one fucking bit of difference. It's everyone collectively saying the same thing that makes a difference. Everyone already knows this....or at least they should.

First of all.....trivial? You think mighty big of yourself don't you? I mean, I do, but that's me. I'm pretty big, so thinking big of myself is quite fitting. Secondly, I think you took "welcome" a bit too literally there. If by some chance you actually caught me in the act, of course I would run. And yes I probably would drop whatever it is I was stealing. Doesn't mean you still couldn't chase after me and "try" to kick my ass. That's what I would do.

I'm not talking about everyone else, I'm talking about ME.

Ah. So basically, you're operating under the principle that you should be allowed special privileges above and beyond those granted to other members of society, and that somehow your thievery doesn't count.

Gotcha.

Trivial isn't me thinking big of myself, it's me knowing that tripping someone that's running away from you is pretty easy, and once they're on the ground and stunned, hell, someone half your size can take you down.

But either way, I'm bigger than you. :D I only chase for the first hundred yards though.

I don't even know where you're getting that....but ok, whatever.

Well....to trip someone, they would have to pass you, and no one in their right mind would run towards the person they're stealing from.

1. I bet you're not:bb:(fat doesn't count :P )
2. Really? I would chase the person until I caught them.

You know this is all hypothetical though, right? Like I said on page 1, I don't really steal anymore.

No no, you catch up, and rather than grab the person and indulge in a tackle that will just end in a wrestling match, you lightly tip their foot up from behind. If you know how to do it right, it works wonders.

I think you said you were 6'2" and 200lb at some point in the recent past, no? Even allowing for my extra weight, that makes me slightly bigger than you, lol.

When people who know me in game see me, they usually say "wow, you really are a Galka..." >.>; I think it's the monkey arms.

Besides, I'm not fat. I'm big boned. Really.

2. Really? I would chase the person until I caught them.

I'm lazy though. Besides, like I said, most people just drop the item when they think they'll get caught.

I wouldn't even call this hypothetical, really, since I doubt you intend to steal anything from me regardless; finding something worth the effort would be difficult anyway, since like I said I never leave anything valuable out where it can be so much as seen, much less easily obtained.

This was supposed to be more an abstract discussion of acceptable treatment of thieves and other base villains.

"Slightly"....lol. Why does everyone always have to remember every little thing I say on this board? ><

Even if the dude stealing from me dropped whatever he was stealing, I would still wanna catch up with him and beat the shit outa him. That way he doesn't try it again.

Yeah, I just wanted to make sure you(and everyone else) knows that. I don't wanna come here tomorrow to see a bunch of people giving me shit for being a thief.

I would still steal a DS from the back of a car with open windows though, that's just a no brainer.

Like I said on page 1, I don't really steal anymore.

Maybe you should remember every little thing you say on this board. :p

But for my 2 cents, don't listen to bible shit or justify stealing with "they rip people off too" or "they'd do it" crap. If you would be pissed if it happened to you, then don't do it. It's just that simple.

How about this for advice?

Never leave valuable stuff to you in the car EVER. Short and sweet, no?
If you leave it out in the open, especially if this type of thing's happened to you before, chances are good that those things will get stolen.

Thievery is bad in any case, you're taking someone else's property. It is simply not yours.
If you do take things that are not yours, you're just asking for trouble one day.

While stealing is my favorite crime, it sucks it happened to you. A few years back my video camera got stolen and I was super pissed off. In my anger i went on a little stealing binge, my favorite being hickey equipment which I later sold for gas money. It's tough in the streets.

Did you report it? My dad's car got broken into a few weeks ago and the police actually found the GPS that was stolen from his car.

Bottom line is, at the end of the day, all those companies still made millions of dollars by selling something that costs 5 cents to make for 2 dollars. Who's stealing from who now?

Well, if you can make it yourself, you have the freedom to do so. You aren't paying strictly material costs. You're paying for labor and utility costs. This is why video games are $60-$70 despite being printed on a 50 cent peice of plastic.

Quit the drugs, you're fucking braindead.

I've been to a court ordered theft class, so believe me when I say that I've heard every argument you could possibly throw at me about how "stealing hurts everyone". Bullshit. I seriously doubt me shoving $20 worth of stuff into my pockets is gonna cause a supply shortage on the shelves because I've bankrupted them. And I didn't steal that damn doughnut. If I had, I would have never brought it up on qcdn. I also don't lie about stealing on the fuckin internet, if I had stole it, I would have just said that. There's no reason to hide it. You seriously are one fuckin asshole for constantly bringing that up every chance you get. Actually, asshole is the wrong word, you're just retarded.

I would welcome you to try. And if you somehow succeeded I wouldn't hold a grudge against you. I would do the same thing if I saw someone trying to steal something of mine. Stealing things is always a risk.

I don't think Skaw meant just you. Ex, if all thiefs sound like you, then im thinking they're all thinking the same as you, so they probably steal more because it's only $20. Say 50+ people a day take 10-20 bucks worth of stuff a day, that shit adds up over a monthly period. If one person is thinking $20 isn't harming anything, then im sure 100's of other's are thinking the same thing.

Even with labor and utilities and etc, it still costs only pennies. I'm willing to bet that video games are sold and something like a %1,000 markup, at least. Do you have any idea how much money they make off that shit? Probably not. That's why you keep spewing this ignorant bullshit that holds no ground whatsoever. I might be braindead, but I have an excuse. What's yours?

Even WITH all the theft that goes on at Wal-Mart, and there's alot of it, they STILL make shit tons of money at the end of the day. You really think Wal-Mart is gonna go out of business anytime soon because of all the petty theives in this country? When I was something like 14, my mom worked at Wal-Mart as some sort of higher-up, and she told me they lost about 10 mil due to theft every year.....and they still made about 150 mil in profit. That's just the one store.

Maybe you should remember every little thing you say on this board. :p
I said I don't really steal anymore, lol. I'm sure I'd make exceptions for certain situations.

It costs a lot more money then you think it does to make one.

http://www.greggman.com/headlines/2000/2000-11-11g.htm

It depends on the game. I can tell you that a certain team I worked on which had about 15 people for a year cost 2.5 million and that's development costs only. That does not include advertising, duplication, distribution, returns etc. I can also tell you that the next title from that same team is going to cost 4 times that, twice as many people working twice as long. It all depends on the game.

For example Warcraft 2 (I think it was 2) cost only like $750k but Diablo cost like 3 mill and Diablo 2 cost like 6 or 9 mill. A game like Tetris could be done for like $20k or less, especially like "Next Tetris" for Playstation which if you take a look at as no art. It's as though it was done completely by one programmer (plus some music)

...

Final Fantasy 7 with all the effects and CG cost around 40 million.

Fuck that, the Russians developed a car alarm that blows the car up if anyone attempts to tamper with it. If you're gonna stop a thief, do it with some gonads.
they actually made one where it shocked you really bad but they said it was illegal, and that if the thief was hurt real bad you could be held liable so much for protecting your property.
