Thinking of asking for the Banhammer

Sorry, I was a little busy today to threadcamp this. But I see a lot of good communication going on.

This should not be about Jamal, but rather about the plethora of people that are on the border of leaving the community as the OP stated. My tl;dr post was pointing to the fact that I don't think these situations will ever stop (someone else will just fill the void) until moderation has to do the (unfortunately viewed as) mean thing and start getting rid of these people before this starts. Nipping it in the bud with the fair system that is in place and ditching them before the drama-roots are even started. Even the drama-whores in these events will get followers as they provide someone to gripe to and laugh at the "gimps".

In the end, I am behind Lucki's decision (even though I enjoyed reading his banter throughout the times) whatever it may be. My comments are directed at the fact that I see this happening more and more until something is done to remove the root of the issue = [insert newest drama whore here], and keep them from getting to this level again. I doubt I will ever disconnect from this site completely, as I am primarily a lurker but the additional content I could provide (and perhaps promote our LS to do the same) will never come to fruition while this is going on.

I'm sorry guys but this is really pissing me off. Kayleen purposely banned herself the other day, and I left the vent channel because of her til she left. I don't give why you want to get modmins stress by doing shit to piss them off. If you don't wanna return to the site then... DON'T RETURN TO THE DAMN SITE.

In Kayleen's defense: I don't want to go too into details as I want to drop the subject as a whole. As of yesterday evening, Miros and I have resolved any sort of conflict we had with each other(details are a bit personal), and no we weren't deliberately trying to make his time on qcdn a living Hell.

Eventually last night over Vent we all got into a discussion about Jamal, at that point I was so irritated about it(not specifically about Jamal, but somewhat related) I was contemplating on requesting a perma ban. I was so distraught about the subject, I just didn't even want to attempt to try to talk things over with Miros.

Kayleen got banned purposely because she knew Miros would start conversing with me about the situation at hand, albeit it may not have been the best method to make it happen, it did work. Miros send me a tell, and we argued and discussed things for about an hour through tells in-game, and eventually worked things over. I'm over the whole thing now, and I just don't have the will or want to bring up the subject again and would appreciate it if you guys didn't either. Everything is fine now as far as I'm concerned, but if any of you guys are looking to blame someone for said person's name being brought up so often, blame me.

As for Lucki and Kotsu/Rob, don't get yourselves perma'd. Your upbeat, and on special occasions, intoxicated attitude towards things always makes me smile. We all enjoy your presence here on the forums, in-game, and on Vent. Don't deprive anyone of that. I was told by someone if you get yourself perma'd just because of him, in a way, you've let him win. I think that's the last thing anyone wants. Just promise me you'll make that post you read to us all over vent, I'm still really looking forward to it. Just don't include any pictures of him or band names containing 'Mark' in them if you had any in store. =P

I have nothing against Kay, but I just think it was a stupid choice. Like I said, you could of just not returned to qcdn or avoid the flameboard, instead of stressing people. Let's drop it there though.

Mods do a good job generally, you slip up though coz you're not that good...But in all seriousness, I've never had a problem with you guys doing much of what you do, I just got a little Irritated the other day about an art thread and naturally I vented on vent, that's where all my friends and I go anyway, so who better to talk to than my friends.

I don't go out of my way to cause problems because that would just be stupid....but yeah, there's alot of stuff that's been said that I agree with but I'm just too lazy and awesome to quote it :awesome:

What would happen if they weren't there?

I can tell you exactly what would happen:

-The entire qcdn forums would start looking like the flameboards.
Rampaging idiots posting PC+1's after one another, people baiting each other, drama ensuing, threats flying, etc.

-Evenually the forums would be overrun by spambots on a rampage posting 100 messages an hour containing porn or links to sites containing trojans that install themselves onto your unsuspecting computer adding it to their botnetwork using your bandwith to infest even more forums.
These guys are smart and always find new ways to avoid the anti-bot security one way or another.

-Normal users would start flowing away in masses due to the fact the site is not being maintained and being overrun by these bots.

-In the end QCDN would turn into a wasteland of adds, porn and links with no human life to discover in the entire database before either the site owner decides to take it offline or the subscrition to the webhost runs out.
In the best case scenario someone steps up to take over, but this is a rare occurence.

reading back through that thread, it was more a reply to one of Nycon's M.O.s in the FB, which was to /popcorn almost every thread that came up.

The first one was, anyway.

The second one (including "Tristamfail 2008") was direct response to Kelyon simply saying "we need more popcorn".

Mindless PC+1? Yeah. Do I wish I could take it back? Possibly.


As for me saying that my STFUvid thread was targeted at you guys is rather unfair, and for that I apologize. It was targeted at many different angles and facets of (not just the FB) QCDN folk consistently having knock-down, drag-out feuds across numerous boards; be it Garvin vs. Moink, jamal vs. hellstorm, "User X" vs. pchan, etc. etc. The BS that happened surrounding you guys was the unfortunate catalyst for me to post it.

That said, I'd only told a handful of individuals what the meaning of my STFUvid thread was, and to this day I'm sure that 90% of the people who posted in it, and especially the latter half of it, still have no idea wtf it really means (primarily because they're vain enough to think it's about them).

In short, my apologies for saying it was directly targeted at you guys. That wasn't the intention, and you guys were just in the crossfire of a lot of FB-contempt from me on that particular day.

QCDN will always have moderators. If Miros and crew weren't here, then someone else would be (for better or worse), so that hypothetical is very unilkely.

As for Kotsu, I back his decision too. In his view, the moderation team have failed him and their job is to serve the member base. Now, not everyone will be happy with all their decisions, that's a given. However there's no obligation to sit back and say "oh well, they do lots of work", because there are other users who give them migraines, yet these people are still here. And I think that's a very complacent point of view - yes things are better around here now, but I won't turn a blind eye to where moderation comes up short, because I believe there's always room for improvement.

I probably wont do anything banhammer-worthy, because I really don't care for this site anymore. I disagree with some of the administrative decisions, and it's truly disappointing to the point where I just can't be bothered anymore. I'll submit my withdrawal from the forum as a silent vote of no confidence in regards to the whole Jamal issue. As for Kotsu, he's slightly more involved in the matter so whatever decision he makes will be his version of similar protest.

I've never felt the need to avoid any forums on QCDN, and I'm not about to begin now because I shouldn't have to. If you disagree, that's your prerogative.

I am also very sorry to be playing the devil's advocate here, but I have seen a lot of forums rise and fall.

I think you mistake the job of the moderators, they are not here to serve the memberbase, not here, not anywhere.
They are enstated to enforce the rules and make sure everyone follows the rules set on the forum.
Now as Miros has said, he is willing to listen to the memberbase but if it was up to him he might as well have said "fuck all of you, these are the rules, this is my forum, abide by it or leave!"

Now let's look at the following case, jamal, in the words of Miros, a huge prick!
But by the rules set on this forum they cannot ban someone for being an prick alone.
There has to be a good reason, also to present to jamal's followers saying "this is what Jamal did that made him deserve the permaban."
Without that there will be a riot which will be a lot bigger then this little insurrection going on here.
Simply said, there is nothing at this moment that justifies Miros or any other administrator to place a permaban on jamal.

Also if the modmins weren't listening to us there would be no sanction against Jamal.
Trust me when I say there are certain people here on this forum the modmins would love to ban, but simply cannot because they are not breaking any rules.
They are, like us awaiting that one move that grants them that one reason they need to permanently deny access to those people.
