i have been a fan of final fantasy sence i got FFIII(US) i got all but FFXI.
i was wondering if it has the feel of a final fantasy game and would it be worth a FF fan to play it?
i have played other MMO's. WOW, DAOC, SWG(before the change) tried others.

You join FFXI and you will never leave...
SO BE CAREFULL

I'm a huge fan of the whole Final Fantasy series too :)

The things that I think that FFXI has in common with previous FF's is its strong emphasis on teamwork and community, an engaging storyline(contained in quests and missions here), and my favorite fantasy device:

Medievalesque society with hints of some vanished super-advanced culture still laying around.

Those crags and towers . . . those mysterious crags and towers . . .

FFXI is still as fun as the other Final Fantasy games in my eyes, but it really stretches the 'commitment' factor of MMOs.

You are unable to do a lot of things by yourself, but they all revolve around the mobs. For example, you could stay at level 1 and do quests all day - but if it involves killing a monster, you may need assistance.

Imagine any other Final Fantasy, with only one character of limited capabilities. Add in the ability to join up with other people temporarily to boost your collective capabilities (i.e. asskicker with no form of self-healing + healer with no form of doing good damage). That's FFXI.

Aye. I know it's tempting, but just don't do it. :)

yea.. lol those towers/crag have me thinking and The story about Limbus lol
and tonberry ;\

like others said its a good game but too addicting... The game is rewarding as time passes... those who just try it out and quit in 3 day and say the game sucks didn't put enough commitment to be rewarded.. my thoughts .. w/o any sleep today also >.>

Do you also have three kraken clubs and 43 nobles' tunics?

I'd honestly say stay away. If I could go back in time I'd make myself not buy the game. Too much time wasted imo...but can't stop playing. :(

Join WoW

STFU troll.

If you have the time to play for hours on end, I say go for it, Fri. Otherwise, I'd stick to non-mmo's, since commitment, time, and patience are all key elements in this...mainly time.

Do yourself a favor and listen to Miros.

Being addicted to a game like this leaves you two options.

- Take the game seriously and become an emotional wreck over the game.

- Don't become emotional and be seemingly mindless, for the days and years this game will take from you. ( Years is no joke, the game really does that )

You will think it's just a game at first, but after a small taste, very few things will stop you from playing more, then comes the physical strain from spending countless hours infront of the PC. Then the missions and the being awake for the entire weekends. After a few monthes to a year you'll learn not to fall asleep on the keyboard, and pull off 30 hours on occation.

While you're away from the game, you'll be wondering how you're buddies are doing, or if you're plants bloomed, or if you're items sold. Simply logging in and looking is not enough to quench you're thirst for more. You'll want to progress further. Become more powerful, see the Notorious creatures and defeat them. Make conversation drop you're jaw at shocking news.

In the real world you're friends and family my sense a disturbing peace within you that is not to be disturbed, or else it may release rage. Little gestures like being a few minutes late to the table will only add to more signals between you and you're occupants. Signals that say, you have an addiction that is keeping you from living life.

After nearly 5 years i gradually pulled away from this game, and still play. Difficult to explain/ Me and my RL friends do not address FFXI as a video game like the others. When you talk about games with friends you can talk about games but when you talk about FFXI, you divide it from the rest of the games.

It's to a point where playing video games is not an addiction and is actually ok so long as you're not on FFXI.

It may sound good, and it is. Just warning you like some of the others. It's not a good idea to get into this one.
