this game reach a new time low.

I read the site couple weeks ago, and saw a Poll about Points vs no points. It was something like 25 No points vs. 5 points.

Was that before or after they did away with points for items, and before or after they did away with getting gil with points? They turned it into you use points to buy sky drops that will be used to make equip for you, and if there's nothing that drops that you need, you get the satisfaction of having a bunch of points that you will never use. Oh and btw, not just equip that you can wear, rdm can't use points to buy V-Claw from what i heard, even if they would use it to make a SH for themself.

They did it your way for few weeks, but majority of people realized it was bringing greed into the LS. Like.. "Oh i already bought Zenith Mitts, so im not going to come anymore, unless there is something more for the BLM, like Zenith Mitts+1". Im not sure what is going on now, they are trying to fix the system.

the majority of the LS wanted to get rid of the point system. No one really liked it. But we couldn't take it away fully, sicne people who got their items might not show up then. Instead, we made it so that you use your points to get gil instead. And jobs that don't really get much from sky (eg. BLMes) gets a bonus when withdrawing gil.

And if they majority of the LS liked it better the old way, why not stick to it? why enforce something on them that they don't really like in the first place?

just a note, we are running a points system, the bank is still around so that points can be spent on gil, and i'm keeping track of how much money flows in and out of the bank. so enough w/ the bank shit plz it's getting old

Point system wonderful, but still the bank. What was the starting balance Ithenas? Can you give us a precious amount? Or are you going to tell us an approximation that was given to you by Prophecy? You probably can't tell us what your balance sheet looks like in March or April... May? How about June? Nice that your actually doing "book keeping", but how much have the book's been cooked to this point?
Before leaving I came up with a points system, which to my understanding has remained almost entirely intact. I came up with the policies for the bank with a lot of help from daveman, basing it on a method he had used in a previous MMO. The method ensures that items received in sky are based on need, want, and participation, The lsbank is essential to make sure that those that don't have any items in sky get compensation in the form of gil, greater than that of those that recieve items as well.

The lsbank at the start of the shell was built idealistically. When prophecy gave pearls to all of the original members he told of his ideals for the shell. He was going to do sky, and all money drops would go to a lsbank. That lsbank would go towards paying for cursed items for people that receive abjurations in sky. It was a nice thought, and with an established linkshell might have worked.
I retract this statement, just found out that OH has bastardized the point system so that:

1 - Item distribution is back to the finger of proph pointing at someone method, not based on a standardized method of determining need/want/participation.

-The point system I created gave people points for participation in sky, for both pop items and god fights, here's the participation part of determining drops.
-People would use those points to bid on rare/ex items that dropped off gods. This is where want comes into play, those that want an item more would be willing to spend more points.
-People with a job that the item is hugely useful for, and is high enough to equip it (ie 73+ blm for zenith hands) would be given extra points when bidding on that item. This is the need part, those who need the item more are given a leg up on getting those items.

2 - Those that do not receive items don't get more gil than those that do, due to points not being spent on items.

All money drops were to be sold, and all gil goes to lsbank. Points could be used to withdrawl gil from the bank at any time. Point value would be bank value divided by total points outstanding, much like stock in a company. People using points to bid on items makes the value of everyone else's points increase, and gives them less points to withdrawl money with, making sure that those who get less item-wise from sky get more money-wise.

The system is back to what it was, except now people are getting gil. This is the same system that couldn't get blms to sky, because they didn't get jack out of it before, I don't see them sticking around too long for 20k/hr.

Need > Greed is a nice sentiment, but how many people are gonna continue to show after getting their items, and helping others get their items, then watching those people they helped stop showing, and helping new people get their items, and watching the new people stop showing after getting their items?

The hippie commune idea doesn't work when you aren't all hippies.

i kept your general base for the points system, changed 1 or 2 rules, and wrote up a page of point values, however this pissed all but a few off so we went back to the old way of handing out abjurs, points are used for gil items and gil tho

That was the reason for the basis of the points system in the first place. People that don't have anything left to get from sky get more gil than those receiving items.

The majority of the ls didn't like the old method, which is why the point system was created. We never had blm's or people that already had osodes/nobles tunics in sky for farming, with very few exceptions. And the point system was proposed and voted on, only one vote completely against, about 1/3 for the majority, and about 2/3 liking the whole plan. One of the biggest problems with the point system was getting it started. Past participation is hard to integrate into the system.

And prophecy's sky farming whims didn't help anything, telling the ls we were taking the week off farming the first week points were to start, then sending tells to people to come to sky to farm. The first couple weeks were a mess, because we never knew when we were gonna be farming sky.

The system was great, the hugest obstacle was getting it in place. The way prophecy runs the ls makes it that a change that major requires his full support and effort in implementing, and he did little to get it in place.

I saw the greed when creating the system, I saw it before, I saw it after. The big thing is though, with the point system, you have standardized rules, so there is little room to bitch and argue. The greed is there, you can't do a whole lot about it without booting half the shell. What you can do is stop all the bitching so people don't sound so greedy. If proph would have spearheaded the points plan, and told everyone to STFU about it like he did with the original lsbank, it would have been a huge success, and there would be few blatant signs of greed in the ls.

why are you so concerned on how we run the LS now? ur not in it. learn when to quit.....shit

Point is Lucy, they did use your system ok? Then they realized it sucked so they went back to the old way.

Point is they didn't get it implemented properly, and then bastardized it, no wonder it failed.

Because I helped build the ls, and still consider the majority of the people to be friends. I dunno, maybe it's kinda like selling an old car that you took great care of, and then watching in agony as you see someone go road hopping in it.

You set the system up and then left the shortly before we started running it and now your bitching about the way it's being put to use. The first week i had everything running to the standards that YOU set up because i thought they would work, that pissed of just about everybody in the LS and they wanted it changed. THEY wanted the change, and i'm sure they would want the same thing if the system had been put in the way you wanted it.

prop, i know exactly how u feel. i lent sum 1 my SH +1 who i have known since ffxi came out on ps2, and then when i contacted him to get it back, he magically "lost it". then i get a /tell from a friend last night that sum lvl 30 character who doesnt have a alt characrer on this server is selling a SH +1 for 1 mil under the AH price.

this shit makes me not want to trust any1 again

..

one of my friends on ffxi loaned me a SH.. Morbeus.. he also bought me a snipers ring because he was feeling 'generous'.. ya know.. i'd have felt shitty stealing from someone that nice.. if i'd have stolen his SH.. sure i'd have gotten a high end item that i really wanted but its a game.. i dunno about the rest of you but i try to relax and enjoy myself when i play ffxi.. i dont want to screw that up for other ppl just for a few pixles that i'll leave behind once i inevitably leave.. anyhow.. just my two cents..

~nib

p.s. 2 types of ppl i can not stand in life.. a thief.. and a liar.. you lie or steal from me and i'll never speak to you again.. that goes for anyone who calls me friend as much as it goes for those i have yet to meet..
