Excuse me, what?
Here's what.
I want you to go resist arrest. I mean REALLY resist arrest. The police officer in question will be forced to use every ounce of strength and a variety of nasty tricks to get you cuffed and removed into custody.
You will get hurt.
There's a pretty good chance those injuries could be significant.
Tasers, on the other hand, have a lower incidence of serious injuries than, say, chokeholds and submission holds, if for no other reason than the average idiot that resists arrest doesn't understand that continued struggling is going to get you damaged. Not pain, pain is temporary. Dislocated joints, broken bones, torn ligaments and muscles, the kind of injuries that stick with you for long periods of time.
Or, alternately, you could be bigger, stronger, and meaner than the arresting officer, and HE'S the poor bastard that will wind up getting hurt. Except that he has a taser, and that levels the playing field somewhat.
And yes, the right amperage will kill you. So what? Tasers are well below that. Yes, tasers might affect specific individuals with particular conditions. And you might try a hold on some poor bastard with a fragile ribcage and puncture his heart, or some similarly unusual event.
