I'm not going to try something a little different here, because flaming isn't resolving this issue. If a mod or admin sees this and wishes to put it on the flameboard, they are more than welcome to. However, I won't be doing any flaming or insulting. I simply want this finished and resolved. No one takes flames seriously, and this needs to be taken seriously.

As many know by now, Glade of the Quetza server was suspended for using a fleeing tool which allows near if not full flee speed on a character for as long as the program runs. Soon after returning to the game after his 3 day suspention, his L75 account was deleted for using warp tools with everything in it or associated with it.

Since the beginning of 2006, use of this fleetool has exploded. Contrary to what you may have heard, this tool allows for great gain within the game. It is not a convenience tool. It allows the perpetual and safe kiting of any high-level mob in the game. The player can stay ahead of raptor classes. They can kite kindreds without gravity. They can kite previously unkitable mobs. They can stall kills to regroup indefinitely with no danger. When used in Xarcabard to handle kindreds, it can basically farm the zone for you. When used at Kirin it can all but eliminate kiter danger. No one has to gravity. No one has to heal. The fleetool is a problem.

I have personally turned in three players for use of fleetooling. I have done so without being in the zone. I have done so without witnessing the abuse. I simply knew it was going on. The first, which many know, was Kireek. He was using fleetool to kite kindreds for his dynamis team, which is clearly for-gain cheating. GM melfus suspended kireek for 3 days just as glade was suspended. If he is caught cheating again his account will be deleted. The ensuing flame topic(s) were meant primarily to make it resoundingly clear that such a tool is not to be tolerated, and that this intolerance will be enforced.

Unfortunately the flame topics failed to stop the cheating. A short time ago I reported two more players, Silversurfer and Algarius, for using the same fleetool after hearing from a passing shell that a white mage was kiting kirin. I was leveling in Garlaige at the time, called it in remotely because I had told the offenders that I would and they seemed to agree that I should make good on my word. I made good on my word.

The GM suspended both Algarius and Silversurfer.

I cannot stress enough how much this needs to be resolved. First, because that makes three people in the same shell. Second, remote reporting has a BLIND success rate of detection of 75% thus far. No remote, blind report has NOT yielded a suspension. Third, GM fervor in investigation is INCREASED in zones which are not public, making no zone safe to cheat in. Fourth, the GMs even check players who are not named in the report. Finally, I feel that flames are only encouraging people to stick to their guns about this, when clearly that will lead to account terminations.

I would like an open, honest discussion about the use of these cheating tools. It must stop, or this will continue just as I had promised in the flame topics. Whether people want to admit it or not, this affects us all when one group uses illegal means to aid themselves. Windower is convenience. This is cheating.

As you can see from the picture, this is a serious matter, and it isn't idle flaming and threatening. While this thread has a 90% chance of turning into such, it won't be done by me. The involved parties know my position on this matter by now, and what I will continue to do if the cheating continues. Hopefully they will take this second attempt at resolving this issue more seriously than they did the first.

Thanks. Think about it.

Or just use a NIN =)

Or anyone. Kirin doesn't run any faster than a player character. The only time you'd even really get caught in trouble is the same time with King Behemoth, when they decide to cast their dangerous spells when theres little time to get completely out of range: near one of the rounded corners of the kite path.

When I kite I try not to go around those corners, I make a sharp turn on the pillar before it or run a figure 8 sort of route.

Ive also miraculously taken a Stonega IV and lived on NIN (swap in Wind Staff whenever he starts casting)... musta had Barstona up as well though.

A very good article raising a very important point. I despise anything directly violating or exploiting the game systems like that. Even back in the day of fish-botting. I hated them, and still do. I am also imensely against RMT (Real Market Trade), whatever their reasons are. I just don't like it or tolerate it or those that contribute toward it.
:nono:

I do agree there is a incredible difference between convenience and cheating. I also aid and support the GMs, the player agreements and those that help keep the game safe, clean and enjoyable.
:rtfm:

Unfortunately, as much as we can help prevent the use of such devices, I personally think that there will always be a "criminal element" out there. Its just a case of catching them and dealing with them accordingly.

I am very happy and proud to see someone doing something to help get the point across.

RATED: 5 Stars!!

Back when I did sky we handled Stonega IV by straight tanking him and all grouping together with almost 30 people at kirin. it took the damage of the spell down to about 500 a person and also allowed easy SC.

I bet u guys had lots of deaths from Great Whirlwind and Heat Breath etc following up those Stonega IV's.

I prefer the no death method.

My only thought on this is that you go on them for "cheating". If you think about it, in a sense, using windowerer is also "cheating". The use of windower allows for other third party programs to also be used within FFXI. I'm not saying using it is a bad thing, but it does lead to the ability to use other propgrams.

You feel the need to call out those using flee tool. That's your opinion. But you use a third party program. ALL third party programs are against ToS. If you want to "rat" on others for using third party programs, then in all honesty you should stop using Windower and make others in your Dynamis shell stop since you too are breaking ToS so that you don't come across as hypocrit.

Also, you feel the need to report all "cheaters" in game... but it seems you are only going after OH. Until I see you actually going against other shells as well, I have no respect for that. That comes across to me that you are primarily going against them because they have members in a Dynamis shell that can compete against yours.

Just to clear things up, I don't have a problem with windower. I myself use it. But, its the fact that it seems like everyone over looks that as breaking the ToS, but anything else is not ok. I have to agree that many people use tools that you are friends with Peregrine, you just don't know it.

I have tried my best to leave personal digs aside, but when someone tries to counter your post Peregrine, it seems to have gotten to the point that it is hard to do, so please forgive any statements that seem to be that way. This was only ment to be a discussion, not a flame.

Claiming Windower allows cheating is kinda dumb. You can still run and control third-party apps while focusing on a program that forces fullscreen.

Fullscreen doesn't prevent cheating.

No, everyone's aware that it's breaking the ToS, if only because people have to keep bringing it up. That doesn't change the fact that no one who uses the windower cares and that the vast majority of them just use it for the convenience rather than to use another 3rd party program. It was also brough up in the OP to only discuss the use of actual cheats, not the convenience of being able to check your e-mail while lfg.

I'm against cheating, against things that give you an unfair advantage over another player; things like flee-hacks, claim bots, those are cheats because they give others advantage over me and other players and effect my gaming experience. My using the windower isn't a cheat when I don't use anything with it.

I know some people can have a two monitor setup, as well as there being other ways around being full screen, but it has allowed it to make it easier for those who may not be as knowledgable about computers as others.

But my main point is that it appears hypocritical of me to be going after one group who breaks ToS when someone does so/knows others who do so and does nothing about them. I just *might* have a sliver of respect for Peregrine if his battle didn't appear hypocritical or so one sided.

It maybe a matter of convenience for some and not for others, but who's to say who is telling the truth as to why they're using it? Who's to say Peregrine may not be doing the same thing he's claiming others to be doing but does it in a way so as to not get caught? I'm not saying Pere does, but all you have is Pere's word. There really is no way to tell.

Btw I just like to note that Ive played a lot of online games and it seems cheaters are always present no matter how much effort you put into getting rid of them, they will always come back. Every 1 cheater you ban, 5 more appear. And drawing publicity to cheating only causes more people to cheat imo.

No, there is no way to tell, but then there's no way to tell people who play without the windower aren't using hacks either; especially since as Skaw said you can run the cheats while running the game full-screen. The argument is against cheaters, not people breaking the ToS.

i use windower..does it mean i cheat? no. im totally against cheating. so, technically, your calling me a cheater. GG.
calling a flee program that actually allows things that wouldnt normally be able to happen vs a program that allows convenience is totally different

i personally use it so i can research missions, listen to music, talk to friends on the internet, and do homework while waiting for pt or during pt.

People who attack windower as being in the same realm as fleetools should only play FFXI in a sensory deprivation tank, with nothing else in it but their FFXI terminal.

Especially a PC terminal with alt-tab and the winkey still active.

I dont think there is any way I could play FFXI these days without Windower (it's just not that fun). SE would be doing a diservice to itself by banning for it.

On my selective attention to Outterheaven:

Outterheaven extending cheating into Xarcabard is what crossed a line for me. Anyone who has partied in Uleguerand knows what kindreds do to pullers, and fleetool takes that concept of demons being fast and nullifies it. OH is the prime target because they appear to be the first and most blatant example of a shell who seems to have grown to rely on such a tool for more than one of their events. We have seen them use in xarcabard. At bahamut. At kirin, as evidenced by myself reporting and catching them or videocapture of clear fleetooling. Not only are they simply using, they are putting this tool at the front of their tactical arsenal. It is clearly gain-oriented, which is why they were chosen.

I chose to make an example of Outterheaven because they are the easiest target and the one that is closest to what I am interested in in this game. I am not, as some say, afraid of the competition. They are not competition if they do not play legitimately. There are several dynamis shells which I have no problem with, because they play legitimately so far as I know. I am disgusted that other shells feel the need to grossly cheat in the same arena that I and my team play legitimately. It does indeed affect us when another shell doesn't need any tactics to handle xarcabard other than to equip a fleetool. Not when we need kiting teams and advanced tactics. It makes dynamis easy compared to what we go through, and that allows them less work for equal if not more payoff. If others call that competition, I suppose they are free to think that.

It is true that I have selectively targeted Outerheaven members. To hold that against me given the facts of the case, however, seems unfair. If there is a more "blatent" offending group as the GM put it, I am not aware of it.

I could care less about windower or the flee tool. People use them, big deal. People may be using flee tool legitly as a convience to them, not for cheating against mobs. Is Pere gonna go after them too? If so, and Pere's using windower as a convenience, than that is being a hypocrit in my eyes. If you're going after one group, go after them all. It only seems like people care if its OH. I'd still think the same way if he was going after Kaizen or BoL the same way and it was just one of them.

You said I was in essence calling you a cheater MO... but did you not also see me call myself one also in essence? Yes, I use windower when I play on PC. I admitted that in my first post. Yes, I use it as a convenience. I would still play the game even if I did not have windower. I still play the game with all this cheating. Why? Because I love final fantasy games. I think if anyone honestly has problems with it being there, do like many other people have said in many many threads and play on offline game. I doubt you'd find a server for FFXI or any online game where cheating doesn't happen.

It's much easier to see things in black and white - I myself prefer when I can see things in similar terms. However comparing the Windower to a Fleetool as a cheat is really stretching it.

What does Fleetool allow?

Your character to indefinitely flee, according to what people are posting (I've never seen people use it. I only can go by how it has been explained.)
This effects your character directly, gives an advantage that you -cannot- gain without this cheat. It effects the game, your interaction with the monsters and environment. Obviously, we can call it a cheat.

What does the Windower allow?

Can your character do anything else it couldn't previously? No.
You can alt-tab. Something that isn't supposed to be doable, but is made possible.
Does this leave it open for people to use hacks perhaps by alt-tabbing and activating? You bet. But it is pretty common knowledge and generally accepted that people can activate hacks or cheats before they enter the game, so it is a difficult to really know how much it assists hackers/cheaters, if at all.
Displays information that you should not know (TP, EXP/Hour, etc. plug-ins or something like that, can't say, someone else might explain since I do not and have never had Windower)

Is using the Windower breaking the ToS? Yes. Is Fleetool breaking the ToS? Yes.

However, if you can't understand why FleeTool is a greater problem, and something to take more seriously, I do wonder the rationalization behind any claim like that without accepting what each do. Fuzzy it up all you want, blur it in distorted arguments, but I don't think anyone can really honestly believe that FleeTool and Windower are on the same level as cheats.

Please, enlighten me as to how windower can truly alter gameplay in such a way that FleeTool does? I do want to know how it can be used in such a negative fashion. We know how FleeTool can be used to do things that is otherwise -impossible- to do without. What does a Windower allow your character do that is otherwise -impossible- to do without?

I am honestly interested.
