The game looks good but I have to admit it wasn't really fun last night. I did all the battlequests from Ul'dah I could do and it seemed very linear and as Marauder I had to zerg to get the quests done. Movement and battle does not seem smooth and many times glitches occurred that didn't allow me to engage the 2nd or 3rd mob of a group stating it was already engaged while it beat on me and I just looked at it.

Seriously, give me /auto attack back...battle system isn't cool at this point. Trying to be different is hurting this game.

Also, what happened to the easy commands like /add friend "..." or /sea all "..." those thinks worked perfect in 11.

Also the lack of a /search function sucks, and how the hell do you relpy to a /tell couldn't they just have kept ctrl r or whatever it was for ffxii. Had to type out full names /t ayira ebele or /t yothe dazzler over and over was annoying.

Hopefully it gets better today. Talked my brother and all his Wow buddies into playing and they were all disappointed so far.

Those were all the problems i had w/ the beta. That is the reason i stopped playing it.

I think for many this game will be an acquired taste...

I'm still not fully sold on it, but I think it should be fine for me just logging in now and then to toy around for a while. Maybe once I get an active LS things will pick up.

I thought about you after I logged last night! I hope you got in touch with Tak and he was able to pearl you :) The game is a lot better partying with friends... and dying on things XD

The changes took me awhile to get used to in beta. I would really like a search function to be added. Ctrl + R only works for me after I reply to the person by typing in their full name first.

One thing I noticed after running to Ul'Dah with Pul was how much more laggier it was than LL. One of the reasons I choose LL was because it seemed to me, the most completed of the three cities and the least buggy. You may have better luck with moving to LL to kill monsters or getting a party of a few people and killing harder monsters away from the busy camps.

To reply faster hit spacebar then ctrl+R.

I'm loving this game. I noticed that they moved a few NPCs I was accustomed to in OB but I can live with that.

I've changed my outfit a few times into something better and looking forward to playing more with everyone I meet.

One thing I will have to do is get a wired controller. When ever I AFK and idle, my controller shuts down and when I come back, the game no longer accepts it and I have to re-log to make it do so.

They should have left the keyboard shortcuts as is. The only reason I can see why they force us to use the stupid menu is to prevent any use of 3rd party stuff since everything seems controlled server side this time around. The worst part in that is that we'll see a ff14 "windower" in a couple of weeks/months anyway lol.

I think I read that they are going to add a search function after. To be blunt, I don't believe they were really ready for FFXIV launch date. On terms of smooth and lag, the game is fine for me so it must be your computer and I've seen it smooth on my friends as well.

We definitely need the /sea command again, I agree with you there, but if going out and killing stuff isn't fun for you in this game, maybe it's not for you.

Remember that if you liked FFXI, odds are you'll like FFXIV. Remember that you're only at the portion of the game where your outside of your home town killing things. That's akin to being outside bastok killing bees or outside san'doria killing bunnies. That wasn't what was fun in FFXI.

I hope you find it more enjoyable soon.

My RL Best friend Cyru bought the game yesterday. He is 1/3 of the way to the path of trapping me into buying FFXIV. From what I understand, this plays similar to a solo RPG, with exception to parties and trade/craft stuff.

Tak! I'm coming online for a pearl!

Hey brother I would be happy to pearl you. I will be online at about 6pm EST.

I had a lot more fun just duoing stuff with Justin last night. Soloing got a little boring, plus when we were duoing we were fighting harder mobs. More HP = more chance to get skill points :)

Join Tak's LS and team up with someone and just kill shit. It's a lot more fun with a little team work going on.

That's how I feel. The game isn't riveting quite yet, but considering its from the same team (mostly) that made a game I played for 6+ years, I'll give em a few months. I'm glad they fixed the mouse issue, no more lag when clicking on things. I do hope they add the keyboard shortcuts though. They were definitely a very helpful thing in XI. Trying to figure out search function however...

I honestly had a good time yesterday. I got to level 11 physical rank and 10 conjurer by just grinding and farming in Gridania and it was fine for me. You can't really expect the game to be all that exciting on its first day. I think the majority of the players here are used to an end game play style and it will just take a while for that to unfold. Otherwise I think the graphics are astounding and the new crafting is really neat. Yes, it is a lot different than XI but I think this game has its own merits. I didn't find the battle system to be offputting, yeah I miss auto-attack but this style is interesting. I had a great overall first day. Plus Gridania is so peaceful :) Come down and play with me and Davion

I solo'd most of the time last night and played for nearly 10 hours. When I duo'd with someone it was harder for me to target the mob since all I know for now is to scroll around with my control to target the mob.

I tried the Behest with someone but for some reason it didn't activate for me when I checked with the NPC, but I ran around with my duo partner and cured him since I was a THM. I also tried the main quests and they were quite fun with some more CSs. One of the quests is really fun where you have to /emote certain things to certain NPCs, I won't spoil that part even more though.

I've been working on THM to 10 so far, then a bit on fishing and now I'm crafting alchemy, and I made a fair amount of gil on the first day, roughly 20k or so total. (Most of it was from quests).

I still got a lot more goals set in mind, I want to start ranking up conjurer soon to 10 as well but I'll probably do that near Ul'dah zone when I do so I'll have to make the trip there.

I can see SE doing a maint once a week and possibly a version update once every month or two to add new stuff and fix things, so by this time next year the game will probably be really improved by the time PS3 release is out.

I'm sure FFXI lacked so much content and made things difficult to play with when it first came out, but since we're all used to coming from FFXI, it will take some time to adjust.

FFXI was already out in Japan prior to this, so it was a more complete game at release in NA and EU. FFXI came out with Rise of the Zilart expansion in JP if I remember correctly; which means FFXI made it to a first expansion prior to release here. Needless to say, there will probably be weekly patches for a while as they incorporate updates in. They gotta get their money to keep paying people right?

I'm just amazed every time someone says they want auto-attack. Not only could it not work with the stamina gauge, but to me, I actually feel like I really have full control of my character. It adds a very interesting component to battling that XI didn't have (altho I did like XI), I really welcome the change in combat.

I guess you can't go afk and still punch the mob... but I'd rather have someone paying attention anyway.

I personally think the launch was pretty smooth. I'm staying in Green now, not yellow and red, as I was almost always in betas. I do hit some lag spikes on occasion, but for the most part its scaled down and I think it'll only get better. Give em time, I know this game will grow on you! :P

How is lag and what not in the release version? Does it still take 5 minutes to attempt to craft something lol

Not at all :) It's a good bit better, and I feel like it'll just keep getting better too.
