Thoughts and what not...

I borrowed Cyru's copy of the game and I'm updating right now. He's coming over to play on my computer tomorrow after work since he can't play until he gets his graphics card in the mail. Think he can get a link pearl?

I may get my copy in like a week or two.

Lag is gone for me at least. The only thing I have a little lag on now is the selling and buying from NPCs, bazzars seem to be fine also.

I don't know why people bitch out the auto-attack. The game feels 10x faster than FFXI and I love it for that. Also, Archer owns, I'm having so much fun with it! Just got Rank 12 earlier and got my Botanist a good way through rank 8. Time to level my woodworking, it's only level 2... -_-'

Was wondering how expensive arrows are atm for Archer? And I heard if you run out of arrows you have no way to attack. Just wondering, because when I start I was thinking of doing Archer.

Day 2 I had a better go at it. Finally got a feel for the controls but have to figure out the optimal usage for that macro system, something seems off still.
Really missing the AH however. I am level 9 marauder and can't find any upgrade to armor or weapon anywhere. I am level 6 armorer but need to farm some wind shards to continue. My goal is to make as much of my own armor as I can.
Problem still is the slowness of the menus. If you scroll down your inventory menu and go past the last item it kicks you out of the inventory and there is no auto sort feature. Also, the lack of a search function is annoying. Not sure why they left out things that were perfected in 11. Hopefully they just mean to implement them as they go.
Did enjoy killing a bunch of shit today but the time sinks on some of these quests is a little much. Shouldn't have to resort to the internet for most things.
Cheers,
Foo Mania

Cons:

1, Can't bind arrow keys, my favorite keyboard config is not possible with the current settings. So I'm using a gamepad with a button that sticks ><

2, Responsiveness is terrible. Attacks take 20 hrs to go off sometimes, and my connection is in the green all the time.

3, Getting less than 20 fps consistently on a top end graphics card is unacceptable. Though I hear this is a bug with nvidia cards, because people with lower grade cards are getting 2x the performance that I am somehow.

4, no auction house.

5, not really sure whats going on yet, but thats new mmo syndrome.

Pros:

1, The gathering/crafting is much more engaging than in 11.

2, Combat is a bit more engaging, albeit still slow as balls.

3, I like the new "job" system.

I have a noob question, how do you get to LL from Ul'dah. I tried the ferry during the beta and it wasn't done yet. And I didn't want to run all the way out there again for nothing.

Take the Ferry from LL then all you have to do is follow the main road to Ul'Dah :) Just watch for angry mobs ;;-

So far I'm sort of disappointed, playing XIV has pointed out all the small things from XI that I enjoyed (AH, mog house, /sea, arrows controlling cam, etc.) but I'm sure some of that will be fixed in the near future.
I find myself quite bored when I do log on, the game feels sort of dumbed down. I can party with friends, but I can solo more effectively (probably because my friends get shit exp, so I just meat shield for them) and it feels like it's too easy to make gil, you can just grind mobs and spam leves and the gil will pour in.
Idk, I'll probably continue to play, but as it stands now I'm really not enjoying XIV as much as I had thought I would.

As was stated before, this is just how MMOs start. I'm fairly certain XI didn't have an epic AH or SEACOM in the beginning.

Really, I would take this time to level up, explore and get a feel for the zones and mechanics. Then when the better systems get implemented, you are already ahead of the curve.

So I had this preordered, and ended up cancelling my reservation along with Ruffy today. Idk, I kept hearing too many negative things and it turned me away from it. I think I might just wait for a price drop or some more content before I reconsider. I was excited for the game, but playing in beta, it was ok, I would get bored sometimes. I think I was looking forward to this game with some nostalgia being the main thing. I felt something different playing XI for the firsttime, I never wanted to put it down, even if I was only killing little shit outside the main cities. While this game isnt terrible, the beta wasnt something I wanted to come home and play right away, thats what I was looking for.

Im still unsure right now

To me FFXIV is like a a very unpolished Gem.... When FFXI came out it wasnt the perfect running never crashing game it is today. Some things need time to get fixed and somethings don't. It takes time for Developers to perfect and idea they have and turn it from a "This is what i want to do" Type idea and turn it into a "Ok this is whats possible"

For instance with every update the UI has been getting better and better, with less and less lag after each actions. With Each update/patch the game seems to get more and more stable. And i feel that eventually FFXIV will get polished enough to be that well oiled machine that we expect to see from games like FFXI, WoW, And even Aion* **(While developers gave it no attention the game ran Smooth)

It seems SE is listening to our ideas and out complaints so I don't doubt that this game will be Awesome in a few months. For those that arnt willing to trudge through the rocky times of the games launch. Try waiting a few months till a couple big updates drop and see some feedback from the game then and maybe give it a try. You never know you may end up likeing the game emensely when you play it then. Keep an open mind is all I'm Saying.

Hey foo you in Wolves yet on Istory I'll see you in game it's Antra from Neph =P.

to Claud - that's because JP had the game for 2 years like FFXIV is atm only it was XI - in 2 years they released Zilart with the NA release so this time we just get to deal with the begining stuff like the JP had to when XI started before patches, and expansions are released.

If it ends up being as cumbersome, tiring, and ridiculously tedious as FF11, I'd probably rather play the polished tedious game instead of the unpolished one.

I'm almost in the same camp as you guys tbh. I think it'll just be a thing where I don't play it as much as I did XI because it doesn't hold my attention that well.

There's no AH, so finding gear fucking sucks total ass.
The menus are too laggy, and it takes 10 minutes to sell stuff to a vendor.
Synthesis is ass, because it takes forever to choose what you want, since there are no effing sort functions.

If you don't have someone to play with right off, good luck getting anything done yourself. I've had to solo nearly everything because those two days where I had to work right after put me far enough behind everyone to where I can't even group with all of you.

I played for a few hours and got bored. My new system is up to scratch (ie. recommended specs) but lag was just awful. Shelved.

Edit: Oh and the whole patching process is a huge pain in the arse. The thought of reinstalling fills me with sheer horror.

I tried to play on Cyru's account over the weekend. I have a 2.60 processor, 8GB of Ram, 2GB Cache HD Vis card, Windows 7 64bit. I mean, I'm well beyond the recommended specifications yet Cyru's computer has half my computer capabilities but runs is fine.

I don't recall if I installed windows 7 32bit on my computer or not though. I was tired and just clicked the shit and went to sleep... Is there an option between 32 and 64 bit ffxiv? If so, think that would cause this frame rate and/or lag issue. Because this shit was ridiculous. My computer made Aion look like it was running solitare it was so smooth. I doesn't even bat an eye at WoW, and with my specs I just don't see FFXIV being an issue. Does anyone recall if there's a 32/64bit version of ffxiv? If so, then I'm 90% sure that's my issue.

Maybe everyone is still a bit spoiled by the endless content we had on 11. I know i would be. you all went from having more stuff to choose from then you can shake a tarutaru at to having......nothing. lol

many of us started 11 when RoZ just appeared so there was a major factor in making the game fun. when this game gets some content and some refinement it'll pick up i think.
