Thoughts and what not...

Yeah, I was having fun for the first week during early release. Then the game just started going downhill for me once it was released to everyone. I noticed the game seemed more buggy when it was released officially to everyone.

The game wasn't too bad when there was only 1k people on the server, but when it gets to 2k-3k people, the game is often laggy, and there's so many bugs. One bug that really got me frustrated last night was the gaining sp in chat log but not actually getting it in the rank stats which caused me to miss out 2-3k sp during a pty that I was in for roughly an hour.

This really brought me over the edge and even the ptying system wasn't as fun for me and it made me decide/felt like playing FFXI again...

So last night I actually sat my char in FFXIV on afk, reactivated my FFXI account since I had to change my credit card number a couple weeks ago, and played XI all night doing an abyssea pty on my rdm and doing the final AMK fight with some friends and winning. I had quite some fun doing this, and today I want to work on pimping out my blu more with finishing the trial weapons and upgrading blu af3 relic.

I'm still deciding what I want to do with FFXIV, but in the meantime it's in free trial period, so it's not like I'm paying for nothing atm.

durrr I tried playing fri-sat night. IE: release dates lag from regular version.... Maybe that was why it lagged so much. Be it that the case, I won't buy this game for 4-6 months at the very least. If at all. I'm genuinely hoping it was just my own dumbass fault for installing the wrong version.

I feel the same way as most of the people in this thread. The game is really nice, and there are some serious pros and cons.

The lag is obscenely frustrating. I understand that its going to be part of the early stages of the game, as there's really not alot of places for people to go. Take a FFXI server and jam all of those people into 6 zones, and the lag is to be expected I guess. Some LS mates were having a discussion last night that basically came down to "I like that the game is harder". Well, it's not harder. For instance, I have found crafting in XIV to be pretty enjoyable and not just mashing buttons as fast as possible, but when it takes me 4 minutes to craft one item because the menus load slower than snails fucking, it becomes a major annoyance. Battle system is the same problem. Chat function blows. Targeting system blows (Give me my fucking F8 back), I'm glad I'm not a mage, because targeting people to cure them would drive me insane. Some other things have been tough to figure out, but I guess that's just culture shock.

Of course, can't list the bad and not the good. I love the ability to change jobs on the fly. Being able to teleport/return at will is amazing (imagine the hours I wasted in XI just running somewhere). Being able to outrun an angry mob instead of having to find the nearest zone line is nice. Having a nice number of abilities even as a lower level job is nice. Being able to view all LS members, online or not, is nice. Game looks beautiful. Crafting is actually meaningful. Market district is a fantastic idea, but maybe needs a little work.

I guess this was all to be expected on a first release, but maybe I was naive in thinking that it would be slightly more polished. I'm gonna ride it out for a little and see if I can maintain a level head as I try to get things done.

My computer is just barely over minimum requirements... and I'm not having much lag/trouble at all. While this game does have a few flaws, I find it very fun and I am loving every second of it. I can just tell SE is going in the right direction, and I believe some of the flaws (lack of AH - good means of bazaaring items, lag, etc) will be worked on and fixed soon enough.

I hope everyone gives the game some time! (I do think you could have it setup on 32/64 bit... or atleast, it asked what program files you wanted it in, I'm pretty sure.)

I tried to play on Cyru's account over the weekend. I have a 2.60 processor, 8GB of Ram, 2GB Cache HD Vis card, Windows 7 64bit. I mean, I'm well beyond the recommended specifications yet Cyru's computer has half my computer capabilities but runs is fine.

I don't recall if I installed windows 7 32bit on my computer or not though. I was tired and just clicked the shit and went to sleep... Is there an option between 32 and 64 bit ffxiv? If so, think that would cause this frame rate and/or lag issue. Because this shit was ridiculous. My computer made Aion look like it was running solitare it was so smooth. I doesn't even bat an eye at WoW, and with my specs I just don't see FFXIV being an issue. Does anyone recall if there's a 32/64bit version of ffxiv? If so, then I'm 90% sure that's my issue.

Just to go back to your question regarding 32/64bit systems. If you have 8GB of RAM i'd be concerned if you were running a 32bit system since Windows 32bit won't recognise/utilise no more than 3GB meaning the extra 5GB may as well not be there. Although they are displayed in your BIOS once you switch your computer on since the system is detecting it, Windows 32bit won't be able to use them. 64bit systems will make use of the extra RAM so if I were you i'd check to see what system you are running and upgrade if needed. You'll no doubt see a big improvement in performance if you do.^^

I don't want anyone to get me wrong. I love the game, but it's just that I'm not getting much out of it due to lack of people to play with. Everyone seems to have their own "leveling buddies" and I'm stuck out here soloing.

Aftering 0/8 on lv 1 synths as a lv 12 crafter I think thats the nail in the coffin for me.

Yeah, the crafting in this game blows. SE's still up to making us waste gil on crafts that we shouldn't even have to think about, but we blow up anyway.

Oh I have 64bit windows. I think I may have installed 32bit ffxiv. I'm hoping the reason ffxiv runs like complete ass is that since my system trounces the required and doubles the recommended settings.

I know its early release..but SE has experience with an MMO now. So the problems they are having is uncalled for. This game just isn't optimized well on the PC. It's incredibly slow..slower then XI, and XI is like 8 years old! The targeting system, no excuses. Search features? Any new MMO should be released with these. The only thing I don't EXPECT from a new mmo is content, but this game lacks is menu's, combat problems, search functions, interface lag, random synths that make ZERO sense! Like a lvl 10-15 crafter failing constantly on a lvl 1 synth OR a lvl 8 recipe requiring a lvl 24 recipe from another job...and list goes on and on.

I'm usually in the same camp. Maybe that's why it doesn't hold my attention for that long.

All I know Rima/Shome is when I'm on I'm fair game to level with. I don't hear either of you asking for someone to party with, and we have a LS of what 60+ members? If you want someone to level with why not speak up? I often times am just sitting crafting, and when I hear folks in LS talk about leveling I head out. Leveling with someone is not a "game" problem, its a YOU problem that can be easily rectified if you simply ask :D.

I've kinda shelved that game for now also. I dunno, I was loving it and it kept me busy during the first week but it lost it after that. It just seems so drawn out to do anything. It's not like I've been spoiled by easy interface MMOs either. The only other MMO I've really played is FFXI, and that didn't have the most simple UI.

I know I'll be back in a couple of weeks/months(maybe) when it starts to fix itself up a little. I want to love it, but just can't right now.

It'd help if there were more people in Gridania around my level :/

Ultimately you're right though. Maybe I'll give that a shot tonight.

Kind of glad the PS3 version got delayed until March honestly, as much as I want to play now, I still feel the game's in beta still ultimately.

There's a lot in the game that I enjoy, but my playtime is very limited of late. Between that and the fact that the game isn't quite done in my opinion, I have a hard time building much interest.

I do ask.

Hey douche. Log on tomorrow sometime after 5:00 PM CST, and hit me up. lol

There still is no excuse for the horrible UI, no search function, and the amount of buttons you need to press just to trade, craft, or even check your own gear or bazaar. I am having a blast grinding and Pul, Udak, and I went out to Coerthas the other day and found a secret tunnel and killed some hume bandits and got 2 ranks and 2 leves. I thinnk we have hit up some places where we were the first to start grinding on Istory. LS had a crafting party and I think everyone that showed up got upgrades in their gear and existing gear repaired most of it for free or just cost of mats that was a great idea by Reya.
It can be fun with friends and hopefully they will fix the slowness of the menus and remove some of the redundant verifications in crafting and speaking to npcs and I will be a happy killing machine.
No AH isn't even bothering me now that we have a great crafting group in our LS and recipe databases online starting to get complete.
