As they say up here, it's time for me to hang up my skates and retire, from FFXI that is.
I was hoping to delay this a week or so further but after receiving PMs of people wondering if my account had been hacked and what not, I decided to make it public right now.
For those who know me well, you can guess this won't be a short post but I'll do my best to resume 4 years of playing in a few words. If you're only interested in my reasons for leaving you can skip to the end.
Where do I even begin? For most of the 4 years I've been playing, FFXI has been a big part of my life and the people I have met within it even more. I've met a lot of people, some nice, some good and some amazing people. Some of them became close friends even outside the game and this is what mostly has kept me in FFXI for the last year.
WickedWayz LS, there is no words to express how I feel about you guys. I'm not going to name everyone, you know who you are, but let me just say it has been an honor and a privilege to get to know you all and spend so much time in your company. I still remember to this day joining the LS, 3-3,5 years ago, as a level 30 DRK. I was all impressed by Otak and Zoner being high levels... at 60ish hehehe. We've had our share of drama over the year, just liek any LS, but when the same group of people stick together for as long as we did, you know it's something special.
I'll miss our little chats the most, Nanunanoo's constant one-liner joke, Wulfgar's typing, Otak's miscue when talking english (Let's go hunting testies!). I'll miss Neyla's DIRECT way of saying things to you the way they are, sugar-coating is for pussies! And of course Hali's perfect punctuation. Lepruvian, Apu, Nilhaar, Sihaya and the rest of the LS, again, I will miss you all very much.
One more thing I want to say to you guys, no matter what others might say and even if we were never an end-game shell, you guys are amongst the best players I've played with. Every activity we did, every mission, BCNM or KSNM, things were always fun and VERY well executed. None of you needed explanation on doing your job nor did you need to have the gameplan repeated to you 5 times. You're all pros and it was a real pleasure to see you all in action.
A few years after I started playing (2) I finally hit 75 in one job (RNG) and joined another great shell for my first end-game activity, Rawr. Boy did I feel gimp. Getting lost in Sky, shooting everywhere at Kirin except at the mob itself, aggroing everything on farming nights. But you guys, like WickedWayz, are one exceptional LS. You thought me everything about Sky and placed me on the right path to become an end-game RNG (even tho I never got to do it really other then Sky and a few HNMs).
Other then being a lot of fun doing Sky with Rawr, the way this LS conducts itself up there is what makes it special. Rawr has always been about respect, within the LS and towards other LSs. I can't remember a time where we acted to take advantage of another LSs misadventure, like stealing a mob from them while they were still fighting it. There has been one or two occasion where miscumminication caused a little tensions but you guys always conducted yoursleves with class and rectified the situation on the spot, like giving the gem to the LS (Despot, can't remember what LS it was).
I've met many great people in Rawr, people that remained good and close friends after I decided to leave the Sky scene and I will miss you all very much.
BigKahunas, lolDymanis and people I have met outside of the LSs I have been a part of, each and everyone of you is responsible for me enjoying the game so much. The random chats in town, the waves when passing by, the joke tells out of the blue, all those things is what made FFXI such a fun experience for me.
As for myself, I do hope I am leaving a good impression behind me. I know I didn't get along with everyone but I do hope I've made more friends then ennemies. I always tried to act properly towards anyone I met and I tried to do my job, as RNG or NIN, as best as I could. I never claimed to be the top ranger in the game or on the server, but I like to think I was up there with the best of them.
Finally, how can I make a goodbye post without talking about crafting, me, VERESKO. Other then my friend's company, crafting was my second love in this game. Even after leveling almost 1000 levels of crafts (on 4 characters) I was always looking to the next craft to level. I'm gonna miss that oh-so-sweet HQ animation so much and god help me, that yellow skillup line, that thing is freakin addictive!
I won't give any crafting tips or secrets here because that would go against what I've always said: don't believe everything you read on the internet. If I were to post my opinions on crafting I'd ask you to do just that. Instead, I'll give you the best advice I can think of, TEST EVERYTHING. I spent months testing theories, proving or disproving things. I'm not gonna ask you to accept my results as the law, but rather, make the tests yourselves. Be as "sceintific" and thorough as you can.
Well this has turned out to be longer then I was hoping... again. My apologies. I'll finish my post by explaining why I am quitting. It's simple really, I'm addicted to FFXI. I know myself and I know I can't just "casually" play once in a while. Soon as I'll find something that interests me I'll jump right in it, 7 days a week. I've recently made changes in my life, met a girl and I'm starting a new business with her, I can't afford to risk loosing focus because of FFXI. Some of you might be able to, but I know I won't be. I'm not quitting because of RMTs, SE, drama or anything else other then me wanting to give the best shot to a new life, that include the most amazing woman I have ever met.
Well I guess that's it. Goodbye to all my friends, I'm leaving with a full bag of great memories of you all and I will keep in touch via other means (I'll probably still read this forum to). Best of luck to you all.

Edit: Forgot to say, I'll have my character until March the 1st and will log on from time to time to finish selling/distributing stuff and say goodbye in person to some.

I'll pester you in game with a goodbye if I can catch you, but if not I just wanted you to know that you're one of the nicest people around and you'll be missed.
