The reason pld's are passed up in merit cannons is because they do not do damage near to that of any DD job in the game. It has nothing to do with damage taken, support needed, etc etc etc.
Cythe i realize you go on Bones parties with mnks in krt, but the thing people still miss is DoT Damage. PLD's tp gain is slightly improved, but in a merit cannon in KRT i highly doubt anyone could hold hate from MNKS anyway, nullifying the shiled damage. Going PLD/NIN with company/joyeuse still gives u incredibly weak dot damage comparative to DD class jobs.
Basically, in an endgame party, going for maximum experience, a PLD is taking damage away from the fight that could kill mobs faster. If you're using Sushi, you're also ignoring the fact that PLD's have a relatively low base attack, even with full attack gear.
IMO Pld's setting up a SC isn't helping either...If you're opening a 100tp savage blade for a RNG, they're closing, therefore sc dmg hate goes to them...meaning its much easier to lose hate. Plus i can't think of one RNG i've met who would be patient enough to wait for a pld to have tp ready...
Lastly, if you're partying on deco's, where a PLD could only take 15-30 dmg per hit, you're still ignoring the damage aspect. The pld won't hold hate from even a semi-decked out WAR/DRK/MNK for more then two rounds of attacks on a VT mob, so wearing all the dmg reduction gear is imo pointless. Objects in merit parties are to kill the mobs ASAP with as little downtime as possible...if PLD were a good choice for a merit party, believe me I'd use it...
Also, PLD is not the only endgame tank available...its all situational. And honestly, after checking through the new gear sets...looks like WAR/WHM and DRK/NIN tanks have been helped quite a bit.
All in all, PLD did receive some help, but the shield enhancement is still nothing compared to when they took it from being a second parry.
Sorry to my fellow PLD's, but this doesn't help any situations, about all i can see is if you can't find a tank for a skillchain party, you can say, well PLD isn't quite as bad as before
