What are yours. Give reasons if you want or just list them. Here are mine in no particular order.

Xenosaga 3 (One of the best scored and great games I've ever played, and still play)
Final Fantasy VI (IMHO the best FF game in the line)
KOTOR
Chrono Trigger
Final Fantasy VII

Honroable mention: Final Fantasy Tactics, Mass Effect 1 & 2, Dark Cloud 2, Legend of Dragoon, Dragon Quest VIII, Dragon Age Origins,Valkyrie Profile 1 & 2, Xenogears.

Was tough to choose, but I went with that, ask me a month from now lol.

1) Final Fantasy VI + Final Fantasy VII (I flip flop these two every time I'm asked this question, so for me they share number 1)

3) Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (zelda is more action/rpg but it is widely included on rpg lists so I incorporated it)
4) Chrono Trigger
5) Dragon Age: Origins (first next gen game to crack my top 5)

Honorable Mentions: Grandia, Demon's Souls, Star Ocean 2, Legend of Dragoon, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Xenogears

1. FF6 - mainly cuz it had great characters and an even greater villain
2. Grandia - memorable characters and the musical score really grabbed me
3. Xenogears - big story, took me two playthroughs to finally get it......somewhat
4. FFXI - my first MMO, and only game to ever keep me from playing other games
5. Chrono Cross - long line of characters and great story.

Edit: All of yall sayin "no particular order" made me feel bad lol, no order intended, i just like the numbers =3

No specific order

Xenogears
FF7
FF8
Chrono Trigger
Chrono Cross

No particular order

FFVI
DQV
Chrono Trigger
Chrono Cross
Suikoden II

Xenogears - I don't care if the second disc had meh gameplay change, it was still an awesome game
Final Fantasy IX - my all time favorite, great old feel of the original FFs with better pacing
Gothic - the first ones :3 it was awesome
Deus Ex - FPS/RPG but done oh so awesome
Zelda: A Link To The Past - I'll agree with it being action/rpg and the best of the zelda

Not really sure if that's my order of 1-5 but those are my top 5 :) there are others I'd want to put on the list but I think got beaten by those on it. Honorable mentions I guess: Final Fantasy VI, Final Fantasy VII, Chrono Trigger (I<3 it mind you but I never got to finish it so I can't really say if it'd be on my top 5), Disgaea, Ogre Battle, Diablo 2, and the list can really go on and on

OH ya, Kingdom Hearts :P one of the best action RPGs evar.

Xenogears - great story, combat system, cut scenes and music. I think this game really changed the RPG genre
Suikoden II - best of the suikoden series, hands down :)
Zelda 64 Ocarina of Time - The whole reason I picked up a N64. I played this game soooo much growing up!
Valkyrie Profile - I fell in love with this game right away. I really enjoyed the story, animation and the flashy combat.
Shadow Hearts - I really got hooked on the humor, story and darkness of Shadow Hearts. For Midway's first RPG, I thought they really hit the nail on the head.

In no particular order...

Xenogears
Fallout 2
Final Fantasy VII
Arcanum
Baldur's Gate

Also a big fan of the Realms of Arkania series, but I'm probably one of the few people who remembers it...

OH Fallout 2 >< how could I forget that gem :3

These are the RPGs I keep coming back to over and over again:

1) Final Fantasy 4
2) Final Fantasy 8
3) Lunar: Silver Star Story
4) Final Fantasy Tactics
5) Pokemon

Honorable mentions for Jeanne d'Arc, Fallout 3, Final Fantasy 11, and Elder Scrolls: Oblivion.

1) FF1
2) Elder Scrolls: Oblivion
3) Crystalis (underrated old NES game by SNK, kind of like Zelda 1 with a lot more depth)
4) Suikoden
5) FF3 (for the SNES, not sure what the actual JP number was... FF6 maybe?)

Honorable Mention to Dragon Warrior1 since it got me started on RPG's on the NES

3) Crystalis (underrated old NES game by SNK, kind of like Zelda 1 with a lot more depth)

I loved Crystalis back in the day. I even bought the Game Boy Color port and played through it all over again.

FF6(3)
FF4(2)
Breath of Fire 3
FF9
Annnddd....
Breath of Fire 2

I forgot to mention Phantasy Star IV for SEGA.... first RPG I have ever played and I was hooked from then on :)

1. Final Fantasy 7
2. Dragon Warrior 7
3. The Legend of Dragoon
4. Final Fantasy 10
5. Fallout 3

Others: Final Fantasy 8, 9, 11, and 12. Lost Odyssey, Dragon Warrior, and Final Fantasy Tactics.

In order of release:

Planescape: Torment
Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura
The Elder Scrolls III - Morrowind
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
Dragon Age: Origins

1) Final Fantasy 8: I can't get enough of this game, love all aspects except for the laguna sequences
2) Final Fantasy 10: Tidus was a tool, but I loved this game almost as much as 8
3) Zelda LTTP: Best in the series. Somebody took a whole bunch of "win" and condensed it into an SNES cartridge
4) Lost Odyssey: A very interesting storyline accompanied by great graphics, music, characters etc.
5) Terranigma: SNES game with a very unique storyline, unlike any other game I've played. Another action/RPG

... in that order.

Not to be an ass, but HOW do you guys like FF10???

In no specific order.

FF VII
Crono Trigger
Kingdom Hearts I
Pokemon
The Secret of Mana (SNES verision) I replayed this game like a million times

Cause it was a good game? :P FFX just had one thing really meh about it, the lack of world map + airship to fly around in freely around it :( oh well. I'd be more a "how can he like FF8" but we've been over that enough XD

Man I can't believe I forgot Planescape Torment too, god so many games I am so dumb for forgetting that were so great.
