OK, I've had my DS Phat since a week before it came out here in the UK as part of a special deal Nintendo was doing at the time. Recently though it's touch screen had started to act up, especially in touch screen heavy games like Professor Layton. Yesterday, I finally got Spirit Tracks, and when I went to charge my DS overnight, when I came back to playing Spirit Tracks, the DS can't recognize anything on the touch screen.

Is my DS Phat pretty much buggered or is there a way I can save it? Or is it time for me to upgrade to a DSi?

Any help will be GREATLY appreciated.

get a new one. original DS's (I refuse to call it a DS Phat, that's just stupid) are pushing close-to 10 years old now I think? That's old for any touchscreen device.

Take care of your touchscreens, too. Get the protective covers, the glossier the better, and don't dig the stylus into them. I cringe every time I play Pokemon, because of poffin making.

5 years old here in the UK, in any case, I did take very good care of my DS. *sigh* Well, I'll still keep this DS, mainly for collector's purposes now I'd say.

lol set it up as a distribution point (kidding, although the original DS is what they use here for that)

Ok, thinking about it some more. I really don't want to just retire my DS like this, it was a gift from my Mum, so, you'll probably think I'm crazy for this, I'm gonna see if Nintendo can repair it.

I think I know what Nintendo's response will be. I found an anime version just for ya Pal.

lol.

Gerry - seriously. It's not worth a repair. Just get a used DS Lite, if you're that strapped for cash.

This is like saying you'd want to repair a Virtual Boy because of sentimental value.

Just because you get a new one, doesn't mean you have to trash the old one.

Buy a nice case and mount it if it's that sentimental to you.

Yeah I still have my original DS now that I have a DSi. I've had it since release but I'ma still keep it. Wish I could help you out though D:

Alight then. I bought a DS Lite, I was mainly unsure as to whether I should buy one due to my 21st birthday coming up, as my mum offered to buy me a DSi XL (Which comes out a month after my birthday).

I also did a little testing to see if it was just Spirit Tracks playing up rather than my DS. It was definitely the DS.

I don't understand the whole fascination with the DSi XL/LL/Bigass. It negates the idea of "pocket gaming system".

It's for older games and people with poor eyesight. Plus that large pen that comes with it looks more ergonomically comfortable than the DS Stylus.

I dunno about you but I never dared to put my DS in my pocket, I had a bag/case for it. Therefore, no reason for it to be pocket sized. I got rid of my DS and have never owned a PSP because of the tiny screens, they bother me (Tried the DS to see if I could get past it). I'm a gamer that likes to play in the upwards of 6-7 hours a day and a tiny screen ain't gonna cut it. If a portable gaming system is ever made to be the size of a Netbook, I'll probably buy it, that is a reasonable size.

What I'm getting at is this; I could care less about a "pocket" gaming system. I want a portable gaming system.

I bought a hard plastic shell for my DS Lite, and it has traveled in my pocket, to work, school, and on the road, since I got it. When I do play it, I play the same amount as you do, but I don't buy next to everything for it and I certainly don't buy horribly ported games that looked good on bigger screens, or crappy games made from successful franchises.

Yeah Pocket sized is great for me too. I use my DSi as my music player too so having it in my pocket, with my headphones plugged into them and in my ears is great. I didn't know the DSi XL was bigger? I thought the screen was just bigger but not the actual system itself.

Hey, just explainin' the fascination.

I also hate having things in my pocket. I probably should have mentioned that too.

I hate having things in my pocket too, lol, unless they're flat. Hence why I have a thin mobile phone, and I wear cargos a lot (for the DS) :D
