Treasure Coffers, Priorities...

I think Pompidou says it pretty well.
Some of you see it the way I do. Some of you don't.
I have respected many of the different opinions and agreed with those points. I went off on tangents, as I struck nerves for some people and they said things that made NO sense. Mostly, that would be Yanzi. Your points were ridiculous from the get go. Others at least make good points, which again, I had agreed with to some extent from the beginning.

I never said this was a black and white issue. So there is not anyone right or wrong. It bothers me that I acknowledged that repeatedly, and people still stated their opinions as fact. Call it hypocritical, but I began to do the same...Mostly just because I was pissed.
I'm done being pissed with morons though. If you are convinced there is only one way to handle this scenario, you are a fool.

I'll think twice if ever in this situation again. Will I send tells? Probably not. I still don't think it's my responsibility or concern to give a crap what anyone is doing in a zone, so long as I give them a fair amount of time to pop that coffer.

I am more on the side that coffers are like NMs. Of course, we have discussed the differences, but I mean that whatever is in there is something that people want...Be it a map, AF, a hairpin, money, whatever...If you want it, take it.
I cannot picture the Valkurm Emperor popping on top of someone and the person that is 20 strides away bothers to ask them if they are going to claim, or even gives them 15 seconds to think about it. If you don't claim it, someone else will. I'm not going to bother asking questions and doing research to aid others who are out for themselves. If aid is wanted or needed, I'd be happy to help...And simply asking me would be plenty good enough.

I still feel a little bad, because of my feelings that lie somewhere in the gray area, but conceptually I still feel the same. You snooze, you lose.
And if you lose, exactly who's fault is that? I definitely feel that I am more competitive than greedy for sure. When it comes to a small prize vs. a priceless prize, the issue isn't of greed. The issue is to move your ass like you need something, or get out of the way.

The only coffer I will think twice about is the one in the leech pool. Next time I'll probably /point and /wave at the treasure coffer before I pop it. That way people know I have taken notice of it, and had better get on with what they are there for, lest they lose out.

if you see a PT next to the coffer fighting off mobs... either 1) /poke Treasure Coffer so that they know what your intent is

This is probably a very good idea, although no one has to be polite about it. but if someone wishes to give warning to nearby AF seekers, this sounds good and fair.

2) send a tell if they plan on opening it.

I disagree, I think it's the AF seeker's job to /t the thfs in the area. This is assuming they're not /anon. I can't speak for other thief, but I tend to always be not /anon so this possible problem wouldn't occur to me.

most likely, since they were fighting the group of leeches, they didn't notice Sneaky sneaking around in the background, thus, the THF didnt send the tell saying "hey, we're fighting off these leeches so that i dont get aggro from opening it" etc etc. i'm sure that was the case.

but overall, what's done is done. can't undo the past.

this is a social game. you might want to try to interact with people. i can understand though if you're roleplaying and want to be a sneaky/greedy thief and stuff... because otherwise, i'd say you were just as bad as the other thief that stole an AF coffer. you conveniently tried not to find out if someone was looking for AF and then after you took it, you justify it with your ignorance.

In regards to the Astral rings justifying THF's picking the locks on the coffers day and night so that no one could get their AF... isn't this why S-E stopped putting the rings in the coffers in the first place?

If so then gj, /pat on back {golf clap}

I don't think you need to pass on every coffer just because someone might need AF. On the other hand, letting someone else do the work to clear the mobs, then slithering up to pop the chest isn't a very friendly way to do business.

True, coffers are fair game to anyone who sees it. If someone is fighting the mobs around it so their low level friend can get to it safely, even if he's going about it in a retarded fashion, it would be nice of you to let them have it but not required. It's up to you. Just be careful what type of atmosphere you want this game to have while you are playing.

ok, here's an analogy. you see a guy standing around. there's a $20 at his feet. what do you do? run up grab it, and run away? or do you ask him if it's his?

The problem with this is I think you want me to assume this was the guy's 20$ bill? In which the bill equals the coffer? They had no claim on the coffer until they opened it though. If the bill clearly dropped off the guy, personally I know I would've most definitely returned it to him. If I was sure the 20$ bill was already there before he got there, I probably would take it since the real dropper was long gone(I'm assuming). And for the sake of knowing, if it was closer to 100 or more, that's now a point of returning it to the store so the person may find it.

A better analogy: There's one piece of pie left and you and another person want it. This other person *might* be hungrier than you, but you really don't know. Do you grab the last piece or ask if s/he wants it? Either way, another pie is coming out of the oven in 30 mins, so it doesn't matter. In the event that this other person might totally overreact, because while he was closer to the pie tin, he wasn't doing anything but staring at it, and you decide you're going to eat it, well, you can rest assured half the people you ask about the issue would suggest that you shouldn't have any pie at all.

I like this one, I would've asked the man staring at the piece if he really wanted it most likely, but not definitely. If I was starving and and after a big reward(such as my own AF), well then the guy would have to suffer for being slow. If I've coffer hunted, I pick first and think about my escape as I'm doing it, then do it if needed. Although in Castle O that simple escape is a macro called "Hide" for 90% of the spawns :D

So in conclusion, if I was Sneaky I probably would've waited for the people fighting on the pond to finish then see their intentions. However I don't think sneaky was wrong for what he did completely, it was fair game at the same time. This would be assuming I was just after safeguard ring-gil.

Thats different though. As Javir said, the bill has a possibility of belonging to the man. The coffer has no possibility of belonging to anyone. It is no ones until it is opened. If they were fighting the mobs around it, first of all, as already mentioned the guy was stupid to not pop it first. Second, because of this stupidity, I wouldn't hold it against anyone if they opened the coffer. If they let the person have it, they would be doing the nicer thing, yeah, but I wouldn't hold it against them for opening it either.

in the end, people just need to be nice and cooperative instead of greedy. it's not hard people. make our server a better place to be in.

You're ridiculous because you put words in my mouth. You take things I say and call them something else.

I don't agree with you because you're a prick and make no sense. You are too biased to even have a discussion. I don't agree with others, but can at least see their points. I may have even mentioned, before they made their points, that I could have seen it that way.

As for this being a social game, I help as often as I can, as I enjoy it a great deal. I am a social and friendly person in game, so long as the feelings are mutual.

This response isn't to justify my behavior to you, but rather others reading this thread who may actually believe the crap you spew.

Agreed.

One thing for all to consider is that if it's NMs, mining points, coffers...There is a certain culture that goes with these types of things. It's not necessarily to be cut throat, but rather to step up and take what you want, or just step down.

Yes, Jag knows that it may not have been the guy's bill. That analogy doesn't fit is what he's saying.
Apples and oranges don't work here. In fact, even apples and apples is sidestepping the issue. Things are what they are. There is a culture around obtaining what's in a coffer, period. How did it get that way? Did the NA players create that culture? No.

Competition. It's a game. That sense of competition is simultaneously exciting and a thorn in your side. You win some, you lose some.
As I said, when I went for my AF coffer, which also spawned in the leech pool, I was practically shitting a brick when I saw it. But I knew what I had to do. I acted quickly, like I cared to retrieve the contents...And did so. Voila! It's not any bit more difficult than that. If you make it more difficult, you risk going against the grain of the coffer culture, which we are all well aware of.

Cooperation, as I have said, can be easily negotiated with a simple /tell asking for cooperation. I would agree that ignored /tells and requests would be rude. But I would be more than happy to help if I was asked.
People constantly ask me to help them with G3. I am always stopping what I am doing and running up to light the torches for people, and show them where to go. No big deal.

This is part cooperation, I agree, but if you are ignorant to the culture and rank 10, that's not my problem. I gave a liberal amount of time, considering this coffer was "so important" to them. If it's that important to you, act like it is!

thats just dumb, NAs didn't start coffer picking, JP did. when i was doing peoples AFs i would see the JP THFs in full AF steal/hide then run around looking for a box to pop.

the name of the chest is TREASURE Coffer. Not AF Coffer. Those leeches are used for WAR AF2 quest so they could have easily been there for that. When I would spot a coffer in a busy area, i would pull a short train away from it, allow the player to open the chest, then either kill the train, escape/warp, or die =/.

But I always knew that there was a THF around, and that that coffer wouldnt stay there for long.

Them getting mad at Sneaky is like a BLM trying to claim the NM in onzozo with flare, and getting mad at the person who uses provoke.

I'm not contradicting myself by saying that, and you'd know that if you actually read anything in all these pages. You'd understand that the context in which that is said, means that the people needing help, would send the /tells asking for it.

People just roaming around, doing their thing don't have any accountability to send tells to people asking them what they are up to and if they need a hand. Being self-sufficient is a skill unto itself that pays dividends. You can be self-sufficient, a helper, and a sociable person without sacrificing anything.

You can also be a whiny bitch, and play the victim when you take your time popping a coffer only to find that someone else actually opens those things, and will do so if you do not.

there could have been many amicable outcomes to this situation and yet true to the player you are, you uphold the stereotype.
