Treasure of Aht Urhgan revealed

It will be good as long as they dont get any abilities that infringe on summoner abilities :)

The idea to have them able to use their abilities based on tp sounds good. Give them a bit higher defense than other mages, a weapon other than sword so they arent blue versions of redmage s too.

Hah, if Square has taught me anything it's that they don't give a shit about Summoners.

Still gotta wonder when they're actually gonna release the expansion.

hmm

who knows? just wait for more concrete news on next expansion, how long after they unveiled CoP on POL did it take for the expansion to be released?

This looks awesome.

I'd guess shortly before Christmas... one of the best times of the year to release a new toy.

Haven't heard anything concrete from work but the big rumour wheel so far says that there are going to be three new jobs in this expansion. The one mentioned in rumours is actually Geomancer, and if you look at the outfit the "blue mage" is wearing you'll note it looks pretty close to what Geomancers looked like in FF5. Just going from what I heard, Geomancers would use magic to give them things like defensive boosts (for tanking) and that whenever elemental weather came up they'd get bonuses, like some type of blink during wind and some type of stoneskin during sandstorms.

Nothing confirmed, just sharing neat stuff I heard.

I will have to agree with Cubswoo on that... couldn't have been stated better in fact.

It could be Geomancer, but it doesn't stop the fact that it does look like a mob ability being used... thus the blue mage...

btw - what would the three letter initials be for Blue Mage? Can't be blm.
bma?
hehe, could be bum~! =D

One thing i find retarded and no one poingted out is there is already a blue mage in game. It's called fucking BST ppl, sic and bad you pet uses all those tp moves it has.

To be fair, you have no control over what your pet does as a bst. Nothing more fun than your pet doing something worthless and/or AoE and aggroing the world.

Go get 'em leech! Sic!
The Labyrinth Leech uses MP Drainkiss on the Cockatrice.

Son of a....

We will see this expansion in about 6 months, right around the same time Final 11 is released for the Xbox 360.

Final 11 will go into beta about the time of the 360 launch, 2-3 months in beta and you are set. It also took about 6 months after they 1st showed CoP that it was launched.

And the final reason I think so is because after this october patch, it seems like SE only have 1 more major update it could add to CoP before everything is finally unlocked.

meh

and in most other FF's where they had Blue mages they had BST, it isnt the same job, and people who think that are idiots, blue mages can choose what ability to use, and will be more helpful in a grp enviroment, while BST pet ability are random, and more solo

BST isn't anything like Blue Mage. a BST is limited to the abilities their pet can use. a Blue Mage can use their abilities any time, anywhere.

And just because its a Blue Mage doesn't mean it have to be called Blue Mage :P

Its gonne be a new mage that has new abilities that do the same shit as spells we already got. Done and done.

Like a RDM from the far east.

This made me think of something...though a total long shot...

Theres some gobs in Newton/Oldton that knows Hastega, etc...maybe this new job will know Hastega, Slowga, Diaga II, and be some new debuff master or something? Though that'd prolly make a bunchof RDMs whine.. :?

nah

SE will give em something that makes em unique to differentiate em from the other mage jobs, RDM convert/refresh/dispel, WHM Cure V, R2, R3, teles, BLM d2, highest tier nukes, AM, sleepga 2, but it'll be interesting to see what their 2HR ability is

That is some very high level stuff too. What could they do at low levels? After all they do need to level to 75 just like the rest of us. I'm willing to bet Beastman moves are going to be 100% off limits.
I wonder if MP will be involved? How will the cooldowns be? Will they bother meleeing? I'm willing to to bet that they're going to be a DD, not support. Frankly, I think support is full now. There aren't a whole lot more they can add to it without just repackaging the same jobs.

I don't think BLU will come into competition with BST.

BLU will have much more versitality in terms of monster abilities it will be able to use. Don't need a spider in the zone to do Spider Web. No one knows yet if there will be a timer for those abilities like SMN Bloodpacts, or if it will be more akin to traditional magic, relying on a MP pool.

BSTs however, while not in control of those monster abilities, still get the monster to fight by their side. In a party, the monster is not usually used for their abilities, but first and foremost for the added damage they contribute. Downsides are the ability of the monster to uncharm, resist charms at random, and their general availability in a xp zone. Of course, BSTs can still rely on jug pets, but they are far less effective than an EM pet in the vicinity.

I do wonder however about the monster skill acquisition part. If it is indeed like previous FF titles, that means the BLU needs to be hit by a monster ability in order to learn it. That would mean for defensive abilities that the services of a BST would be required. Imagine the /shouts in Jeuno to get a BST to charm Dhalmels and have it cast Healing Wind over and over until the BLU learns the ability (I think if they were able to learn an ability 100% of the time when they get hit by it would make it too easy).

They could also make it so monsters with the needed abilities drop "scroll" items, maybe monster essences, that would allow a BLU to learn those abilities. Heh, it's still way early, all we're left with are speculations. But I'm quite excited by the possible new twists that the expansion might introduce into the game.

Hmm well the pictures show pictures of little frogs on it....but im downloading the video right now!!
