Reeve has had plans to upgrade to 3.8 for a while so he could get rid of the hidden forums and did post it on the boards here.

As for deleting in-active members, I know that's a work in process going on all the time. It's mostly the banned bots and all the registered bots who never posted. I think they prune posts older then 2 years but I could be wrong. It's written in the vbulletin code somewhere for that. I also know that there's a good amount of cleanup going on in the FTP server with old and obsolete images.

Having the hidden forums was nice and the social groups are still evolving. There are plenty of hacks on the vbulletin site that can modify the way the social group posts look and I think one has already been put in. I could see them eventually being the same as threads are today with signatures and all. It'll just take some time since 3.8 is fairly new.

There are also some issues with vbulletin 3.8 and moderator rights. If you are the mod of a hidden forum or well...any forum on this site, you will have the ability to read any social group and view deleted visitor messages and a couple of other things that I'd rather not post so people don't see if they can do it. ;) So thereby eliminating the moderators and hidden forums, it allows people to create the social groups and not have to worry about who will read them since they'll know who the moderators of the site will be.

tl;dr version: I talk to Reeve too much and push a little too hard to get things put in. lol

And not to poke it in, but if there's something about the social groups you really don't like just say it. I guess say it constructively instead of "shits ugly!" I mean, elaborate on that. What's ugly? Is it the lack of the userCP bits? Is it the no signature? Is it because clicking on the link won't bring you to the first unread post?

All those things could be fixed up and changed to appease the masses. I know a good vBulletin talent that would be willing to fix it for a cost. ;)

I'm not sure but the point I'm trying to get to is that do we really need to bring in sign ups and groups and user cliques and forum field days or whatever into the situation? Why can't it just be a regular board? The quality of posts just dies down horribly and then you have people like me posting "PENIS" in all caps to try to get a spinosaurus thread going. I think at this point it would be better to have that a social group instead of a forum really. I mean, for me truthfully I'd rather not see in the new posts box a topic named PENIS or something of that nature at the top. lol

Haha, not to sound so picky, but you pretty much nailed everything that I find lacking about the social boards. I grew familiar with everything the hidden forums offered, and now I feel as if it's very bland and empty (due to features and lack of signatures and what not). I know that's a lot to ask for, but I'm sure in time it'll mend itself to where everyone is fine with it.

Well...you're right though. They are lacking and do have some work to them. Truth be told I have been on the test site trying to change them and making sure they don't break the boards. lol

So the best that can really be offered now is that most of us know that it's different and that there are people trying to get them fixed up to what they should be!

That was only an example, lol. Clearly there would have to be some kind of rules as to what could be posted. All I'm trying to say is we could be having a lot more fun on this website but the way things are setup and the over-the-top mod/mods (I don't know how many of you joykills there are. One for sure.) are killing it pretty bad.

Well I'm sorry if I'm a joykill. :S I guess you may want to realize too that what makes the forum fun for you (spamming random posts on various threads) doesn't mean that it's fun for other people. And once again, it points back to the social groups. What you are saying to me right now is you want a place where you can screw off and post pictures of bears and whatnot. Unless an admin says go for a new forum for that, you're option right now is the social groups.

Oh that wasn't directed at you. That was mostly just directed at Sneakypants because of the ridiculous PM he sent me earlier today.
 
I used to have this same problem Lego. Everytime I'd make a hilarious off-topic post it'd get edited/deleted. It happened after Sculli was admin for too long, and then again after Miros had been admin for too long. I think the power just goes to their heads or something and they begin to think that dictating every little aspect of the forum isn't gonna piss anyone off. OR they just don't give a shit.

Anyways, like people have said, there's a difference between random funnies here and there and spamming poop jokes. Some suggest a special area for this kind of stuff. Well, let me put it this way - If I'm reading a thread and I think of a smartass remark to make about the topic at hand, I'm gonna post it right there in that very thread. I'm not gonna go to a 'bored at work' type thread and post it there and tell everyone to go read the thread I'm referencing. Funny off-topic shit is perfectly ok as long as you're not going on and on about it for a page and half.

If you wanna go on and on and onandonandonandon about stupid meaningless shit, that's what those bored at work threads/social groups are for. But the over-modding I've seen in the past (and I guess is happening now? Idk, I haven't been visiting the site much lately) has got to stop. People don't come here JUST for info on XI, people also come here to bullshit with other people that play/ed XI. If you don't let them do that, they're gonna stop coming to this site.
 
Excalibur, you probably don't realize it because you are probably high all the time on the board (or so you say) but most of the posts that were deleted were waaay out of hand. They stemmed from calling someone a stupid bitch in the SAF board, to making a few racial remarks. It's perception again. While you may see it as funny, the people who reported it and the mods who decided to infraction/delete didn't either.

Miros, i got nothing against you and im not trying to be rude or offensive, i know you were once a moderator, but i dont think you are anymore, if i may suggest it would be best to let the current moderation staff answer to these peoples questions and for them to deal with it, since theyre the ones who this is aimed at.

Not trying to be an ass, please dont take it personal, i know you want to defend mods but i dont think you should keep doing if your no longer a mod yourself.

Some people deserve to be called stupid bitches though. It's not my fault people are retarded, I'm just not afraid to call em out on it. It's also not my fault that not everyone has my same sense of humor and doesn't understand what a joke is. Just because a few people get sticks up their asses about a joke I make is no reason to cater to those whiney assholes and delete it.

Also, I rarely say anything that's "waaay out of hand". Some of my posts may be in a moral gray area to some, but very very few of them are way out of hand. At least, that's the way I see it. Mods should infract based on intention, not perception. It's usually not my intention to offend anyone with the jokes I make, so I don't understand why A. People get offended, and B. I get punished for it.

Example: I recently made a "racist" joke in RSI. Everyone in the thread could tell it was just a light-hearted joke....save for Sneakypants. Just because one person "doesn't get it" is no reason for a fuckin infraction.

P.S. SAF? ..which one is that? Oh, and I'm honored you remember some of my specific infractions. I love making an impact on my local forum admins ^^b

If you have some sort of problem with rules, or the mods, put it politely and constructively. Not the "defensive, sarcastic, condescending jackass" tone the OP was written in. If all you do is break the rules, and be an all around dumbass, you're probably not going to be a good force in bringing through any changes you might want. And you obviously have problems with the way things go around here, because you keep breaking the rules. If you didn't have problems, you wouldn't be breaking the rules. It doesn't matter what Miros is, or what he used to be, but that he's defending something he feels is right. And he's doing it in a constructive, mostly polite fashion. Which is a lot more than anyone can say seriously about Lego.
 
If i were to respond, it would be exactly what Miros is saying. I've been having an awful lot to do lately so i haven't been able to devote as much time as i would like to QCDN. Going to school full time and now woking 40~ish hours a week isn't so dandy. I spent my 45 minute break today telling private forums that they will either have to make social groups or they will be deleted.

What's basically happening is that people are wanting a place to do things that aren't kosher under our rule set, but could very easily become kosher with a few clicks on their end. Lions, Tigers, AND Bears are all very much approved in Social groups, and none of this tomfoolery would have happened. You can even call it the Suddenbearattackforum - The forum for sudden bear attacks.

Which one of those is really the problematic shitpost, and which is merely a tangent to the topic(Ludicrous spending on SOs,) huh? It's worthless to try to keep a post going in a single line. You curb more discussion than you promote. A topic doesn't have to mean one discussion per thread, and it's literally more hassle than it's worth to try to enforce such a silly sentiment.

It's nice to have mods. It's not nice to have mods that are over enthusiastic about throwing that power around by controlling how a discussion must be carried out. This is about the point where Godwin's Law could be invoked, but honestly, it really is fascist behavior in motion.

Edit: In case it gets deleted because I called it out, the post is Dejavu posting 2 images of the donkey show scene from Clerks 2, and nothing else.
