Have you ever watched the fighters in Dream? Oh and I forgot about Fedor. Just because they don't fight in the UFC doesn't mean they are no where near the best. People who fight in other organizations get to fight a lot more than they do in the UFC. Cro Cop just signed a deal with Dream because he realizes he is an aging fighter and needs to get his fights in now because with Dream he can get 3 more fights within the year, but with the UFC he gets 1 more fight. Go look at the fight card for Affliction Trilogy because that looks like the best card I have ever seen. The only reason PRIDE fighters went to the UFC was because of all that shady business the organization had with the Yakuza. But I still think that DREAM has some of the best fighters in the world compared to the UFC.

CroCop actually changed his mind and signed a 3 fight deal with the UFC recently. http://www.cagepotato.com/mirko-cro-cop-screws-dream-returns-previously-screwed-ufc

I like all MMA. UFC is just easier to watch unless you get certain channels. I'm pretty mad that my cable company doesn't carry HDNet since they play a lot of MMA. Plus they have that MMA show with Bas Rutten.

I've never been a fan of boxing since it usually always bored me. I admire the skill involved in being a good boxer, but I have always favored at least kickboxing. I love the technical aspect of a good jiujitsu game too. There is just more that can be going on in an MMA match with really skilled guys than in a boxing match.

No offense thats a pretty stupid thing to say lol. Everyone does the same thing right? Because everyone can make others submit or break submissions, and anyone can knock someone out... Yeah everyone has the same fighting style lol.
The variations are very minor in how they fight, everyone uses the same strategy to win, so the fights are very boring. I haven't watched it in a year or so; so maybe they finally stopped being so monotonous, but out of 10-12 fights that I saw only 1 actually played out differently. I'm far more entertained and impressed by a kung fu movie than the MMA I've seen.

Calling it mixed martial arts is misleading, when everyone learns tidbits from the same 2-3 different styles(I think it's kickboxing, juijitsu and something else). It'd be a lot more interesting if they had people who actually used different forms of martial arts like Aaleel said; but when I watched they were all using the same styles because "that's what worked here."

You're pretty wrong baj lol. Shit even at UFC 100 you have a match like Hendo and Bisping that was pretty much a straight up boxing match brawl, then you have a match like Mir Lesnar where Lesnar basically holds mir on the ground, neutralizes his arms and pummels the shit outta his face, then you got GSP and Alves which was mostly all on the ground from gsp's take downs with a little stand up here and there. Each fight was different, I dont think two went down the same way. Plus if there was three major styles people used itd be BJJ, Wrestling and boxing. Plus then you throw in some dudes who have a pretty different fighting style like Silva (other people do muay thai but he stands above everyone) and machida with his karate that no one can touch, and its just interesting.

You have a ton of Styles that range from, Boxing, Kickboxing, BJJ, Juijitsu, Muay Thai, Wrestling, Dirty Boxing of which some fighters have the highest degrees in these different styles. At UFC100 you had GSP countering leg kicks with flawless takedowns, to wearing down Alves with ground and pound.

Then you had Bisping and Hendo, Bisping style is to wear out opponents with his flashy speed and athleticism. Hendo is a brick wall that just flat out STALKED Bisping and though hes a world class olympian and i believe a greco wrestler, he has a knockout punch power and thats what he did.

I understand it may seem like its all the same, guys using force on the ground till one wears out but i think its a bit more technical than that, and thats probably only distinguishable by people who actively spectate the sport.

Only matches I like watching in MMA are BJJ, Judo, other grappling forms because those are the ones when you can actually tell what style of fighting it is. But ironically the most technical fights that spend more time on the ground are the ones where the fans boo the most.

I watch MMA, and for the size of the gloves they wear they are poor strikers, they don't use their legs enough, and they have bad defense when they get in exchanges, and someone gets caught dazed and jumped on. I hardly ever see a clean knockout, where a person would have been down for a ten count if it were allowed. With gloves that small, people should get laid out, but it usually a flash knock down, then they get jumped on and pummeled to stop the fight.

I watch people throw kicks and let their momentum take them all they way around turning their back to their opponent before squaring back up, bad footwork.

That's why I like seeing people who have actual black belts, and why I liked it better when it was style vs style both people highly trained in the art.

I see people where their style is "freestyle", that's brawling, call it what it is, and when you have 2 people who are stand up people, it's boxing with smaller gloves and a takedown and few kicks thrown in.

Im pretty sure Michael Bising wouldve not got back up after 10 seconds, in fact i think the med staff had him down longer

Thus the term usually.

Point being for having on gloves that small, they aren't as good of strikers as they should be. Bad leverage and they don't use their legs. Nor do they have good defense in exchanges, and they back straight back with their hands down a lot.

You asked about technique in the original post and I'm just stating what I've seen from defense, to punching, to kicking. I also smile when I see people leading with spinning techniques, which are slower than just throwing the technique alone, because they should be used in combination not for leading.

This is usually true for those that specialize in another style not stand-up. You can't say that's the majority or even average because there are a lot of strikers in MMA.

If a guys skills and strength are specifically in greco wrestling he's not necessarily going to be a great striker. For the most part I think most fighters are trying learn and adapt to using multiple styles while fighting because the standards are getting pretty high. There are more and more young guys coming into MMA that are well rounded and look to maintain the versatility.

E- oh and the unorthodox strikers (brawlers) are too dangerous to take for granted because they can mess up up with one poke. Even if they're limited in their abilities, you have to successfully get them down or break their guard while avoiding a vicious punch fury.

No, I made a judgement off of a good sample size of the fights, and all but one played out exactly the same way. From what you guys are saying, I managed to catch the only 11 fights in the history of UFC that played out that way, which I highly doubt.

I watched it a year ago, I found it monotonous and boring, so I don't watch it anymore. If they've managed to improve it so every fight isn't the same thing, good, I'm still not interested because of a lot of the stuff Aaleel is talking about. I'd noticed some of that too, but I'm a lot less versed in technique than Aaleel so I couldn't really make accurate comments or criticisms.

1) Stand up is not a fighting style.

2) Good striker means you use good technique and I feel safe in saying that the majority do have bad technique, it's rare to see someone even totally using their legs. If boxers wore gloves that small, people would literally be dying in the ring.

3) the unorthodox strikers who can upset people is exactly what I'm talking about. Anyone with general knowledge of MMA techniques can walk in a ring and have a chance to win. No way a boxer with a handful of fights beats a champion or a top contender.

Heck even in the martial arts tournaments I go to, no way a white belt or a green belt walks in the ring and beats a black belt. But I will say it adds to the excitement of not knowing who is going to win before the fight starts.

For Hali, another comic which describes how I see MMA:

Heh. Awesome. I saw a pic on some site the other day that cracked me up. It basically used Photoshop to add a huge blur over the shorts so you couldn't tell they were wearing clothes. They made a good point that the blur makes it indistinguishable from gay porn, although that's something I already knew.

Yeah, I've made the comment before that UFC is just one pelvic thrust away from full-blown gay porn.

Gay men have sex in the missionary position?
