"unofficial" talk of the legit ffxi windower mode.

Actually it's passive, since it's always on. Active would be something that you have to turn on to use, passive is something that's constantly in effect.

I don't see how it is cheating when the TP is stored in your RAM unencrypted. Don't have to hook to the game or anything. If they don't want people accessing it, why not encrypt it?

There's one big difference between pos, flee hacks etc and something like tp plug in... they actually temper with the information, while TP plug in just reads your RAM. You have full rights to read your ram, no matter what SE says. All SE can legally tell you not to do is reverse engineer their software. You don't have to reverse engineer to read RAM. You can do it without a windower. Saying reading your RAM is cheating is like saying the parser is cheating.

Until SE makes their graphics atleast somewhat up to the standards of today's games, I'm continuing to enhance the lighting and drawdistance with the windower.

Sure you can say extended macros are cheating, but are they going to make someone do something better? I don't think so, quite a few people argued that they can do just fine with multiple in game macros. If SE thought windower was such a big deal as a 3rd party tool, they would have banned a lot more people by now. People don't get banned for using windower, that's just what they say on the forum, instead of saying they used the window so they can minimize to Mr.Argus.

It is cheating. A person who is casting a spell for example, can only equip 5 pieces of gear to increase their stats which ultimately will effect their spell (especially in the case of a mage that is nuking). When using the "windower macro" you can equip more gear, which allows you to swap in even more gear, making that nuke potentially bigger.

Those that use FFXI macros, either have to use multiple macros to get in all their gear (which makes their performance a lot slower) or they're restricted and have to make the best out of using those 5 lines available to them, where as someone who's using the windower macros is going to be quicker, and also increase their stats more giving them the potential to out perform the FFXI macro user.

Its an advantage over those who don't use the windower macro, so therefore it is a cheat.

kinda lame all the LCD monitors are 16:10 and not 16:9 (or is that just in europe)
Mine's 16:10, Canadian. Depends on manufacturer and panel used, not so much region. From what I've seen at least... there are 16:9 and 16:10 panels available here.

I could probably get away with using regular FFXI macros once the legit windower comes along. One instance where I'm definitely going to miss them is during undead Besieged - that NM that strips you of all your clothes. Hitting one macro to get them all back (aside from weapons) made it a lot more worthwhile to stand and fight her.

so apparently using turbo controllers and enhanced devices such as this, for ps2/xbox are cheats too?

i dont even use windower macros, just making a point....

I don't believe that just because the information is at your disposal and unencrypted is a legitimate excuse or reason to allow access to it. SE retains all rights to that information and you are using it to influence how you play the game. I am sure there are other similar instances that work the same way like cheats that detect NMs spawns and such. Wouldn't that fall under the same reasoning?

While a lot of players enjoy these add-ons, the question I ask myself is whether these add-ons really belong. I am not talking the picture feature, windower or other similar features, but add-ons that directly effect in game party mechanics. The game itself is based entirely around group events whether it be killing Genbu or partying in the dunes and we all rely on group activities to enjoy this game, but a lot of those add-ons remove many of the common interactions that players take for granted. The more you remove those interactions between players, the more those players become less of a team and more of a bot. Perhaps that's why SE never integrated them in the first place when it seems like they should be obviously part of the system. I will say some features like the extended macros are nice and I am sure SE didn't think there would be a need for it 4 years ago, but I've lived without one for 3 years, I am sure I can live without it for another 3.

Aren't there turbo controllers for the PC too?

Am I the only one who really just likes the screenshot abilities of the current windower more than anything else? I guess with an official windower I could swap to that and use fraps or something, but I just like having that ability in addition to being able to tab out and the built in screenshot function of the game sucks.

it's what I use for my gallery

fraps is weird to me, it takes the pictures but I can't upload them to any host without seeing the big black wall of nothing, I started using windower's screenshotter and it works.

I wish I could make the images bigger like people do with fraps but I can still record stuff ingame so I'm okay with that

Then those who use the G15 keyboard like me are also cheating? I can do everything windower macros can using it, with no 3rd party software. Also, SE gives them away as prizes.

Whats all this about Target HP %? lol, why do you even NEED it? Theres an HP bar right there, cant you just look at the bars position and kind of tell if its at 1/2, 1/4 or 1/8? lol, wtf...

On another note about macros, wouldnt it be more useful just to be able to stack equipment swap macros in the same line? Like this:

/equip head "head", body "body", legs "legs" and so on. I believe it would, even if you could only fit maybe 3 diff equips in 1 line

Target HP % is very helpful when you need to know the exact % because at that exact % the mob such as Cerberus or Khimara will start doing a very high damage move that can easily wipe the alliance if not properly prepared for.

Never heard of a G15 keyboard, but if its also available and can be hooked up to the PS2 or Xbox360 then I guess I would be wrong.

you can hook it up, but the software that runs the clock, music controlls, and macros doesn't run. So its really only for PC.

Again, its not 3rd party tools, so is it cheating? I dont even need windowed mode to enable it.

How does it allow you to enter more than the 6 standard lines of text in a macro? Is it something to do with the programming? I was looking up some info on it online, but all I saw were additional "G" keys on the left side which to me would look like you have easier access to other sets of macros.

Before having any knowledge about this keyboard though, all I knew is that playing FFXI you're only given 6 lines to enter text per macro. With the windower macros, you're able to store more text, which is not "normal" and therefore gives an advantage.

If somehow this keyboard allows you to do the same thing, then I guess that would make you have a legitimate advantage over those that are not PC users or those that have access to this keyboard. Pretty retarded though that SE would allow that but design it so that those on other consoles can't have access to that, because while "legitimate" its an advantage not everyone can have.

You program keystrokes into it. It sends keystroke information as if you'd hit the keys. Its not exactly how windower works, but it acomplishes the same end.

Programmable PS2 Controllers kind of fall in the same gray area.

I can make an identical argument as to why using packet sniffers to find out when a NM is about to pop is perfectly legit. They work exactly the same was as TP Party does.

As for the keyboard macro thing....

If a keyboard came out that could effectively "bot" for you, I don't think that would mean we'd all think botting is alright now. Luckily we don't have to squabble over that's cheating and what isn't, Square-Enix tells us... windower is cheating.

Not really because the Keyboard marajade is referring to happens to be comomonly given out as a prize at ffxi related events by square enix themselves. no gray area there.

No, Square-Enix tells us that windower is a minor violation of their terms of service, one that they do not issue punishment for in the large majority of cases.

The minority of cases which supposedly are windower related are actually people who did the much more serious violations and lied about "being banned for windower" in an attempt to be able to fake outrage and indignation at thier banning generally. As a result means that it is entirely possible SE doesnt give a shit about windower.
