I feel like JP on this one, I got attracted to QCDN because it feels like home with my family and my friends. Bluegartr feels like that weird party where you don't seem to fit most of the time. I don't know how to formulate that seriously but I feel like it would be awesome to expand or user base while we keep that "family" feeling this forum got. Yeah I know, I'm no good with words :(.

It's more like that high school party that 20 friends (aka the most popular people on BG) decided to invite everyone too. Then you're the nerd (aka new member) at the party trying to be nice to everyone but instead all the jocks (aka trolls) decide to pick on you (aka trolling). You know... not that I was every in that situation or anything... <_<;;

Anyway, you hit it right on the nail for me, I feel like I can make a Good Times thread about me soloing Genbu (been there, done that!) on QCDN and the next day expect "Congratulations!" and "Wow, that's cool!" While if I were to do it on BG, Alla, or KI, I would come back to one congrats and five pages of trolls telling me that soloing Genbu is really fucking easy and I shouldn't be happy about it. That and random idiots fussing about something.

What I'm trying to say is, I want QCDN to stay like QCDN and not try to become a full scale site.

My thoughts in a nutshell:

1. Try to feel out your friends and the other forum members to see what server they are looking at. If you can, try to influence them towards one. That will help keep the community here together.

2. I'd suggest a url that is more general to help welcome people and not alienate anyone that's going somewhere different or those who recently came to QCDN during the server decom.

3. If everyone ends up on the same server, make the focus server specific like QCDN is/was. If not, make it more open.

4. We have plenty of potential for growth and we can manage that in a healthy way that maintains the community atmosphere we have already. We're not going to lose that. Don't worry about sites like Alla K -- they have a very different focus than we do.

*** So in short, just focus on a url for now. ***

:)

Well, I've already talked to a few of you and we've all kinda decided to be on the same server. On the release, whoever gets in first could pick a server and post a huge ass announcement about it, then whoever is interested in jumping on the "QCDN goes to ffxiv" bandwagon can follow us. So then there can be a server where the majority of QCDN vets are and other servers where random people are.. Then everyone is happy.

I like the idea of having a site that can be used by one server, but it is always nice to have people around who aren't.

I reckon Miros makes a character, a crappy one so he can just quickly get through the character creation process. He picks the server and we all jump there. The reason I say Miros is because he's the admin and it makes more sense. But it could be anyone but I think we need to like make an announcement (before release) on someone that will pick the server so everyone doesn't just create their character and pick any server. It needs to probably be someone who gets the collector's edition as well because if I remember correctly, they get access a couple days ahead, right?

It'd be cool if SE announced the official server names sometime before retail.
If anything, we could choose the same server number as Quetzalcoatl (15) so that no one feels we're choosing a popularly-named server or something.

I still maintain that this is a slippery slope. If it works, then I'm all for it - I'm just saying that it was serendipity that Quetzalcoatl had a forward-thinking member create a website for the server's residents to come hang out after the fact rather than trying to influence a whole mess of people into going to a server prior to a game's release.

Why pin this on me? D:

I am actually hoping to launch the new site ASAP to move people towards it. I'm still fluffy on the details. :S

I know, dude. That's a great idea to go ahead and make it too. I cannot speak for *anyone* else, but if it were me and if I were faced with the statement "this site is now going to be the home of the "x" server for FFXIV, everyone choose *that* server when you create your character!" decision, I'd likely say "well, guess I don't need to be a member of this site anymore, because I'm going to pick the server *I* want to be a part of".

As an aside, if you yourself had ever changed servers during the run on FFXI, or if Reeve had changed servers (did you even play, Reeve?), would the site's prime directive had changed? Would we have become ADN (Asura Daily News)?

I'm certainly not asking for us to be another BG or Alla or Killing Ifrit. The problem those sites had in their FFXI management was that they each segregated out the server populations on their sites. The only common ground was the off-topic and general boards.

Here? It's much easier. Make *everything* common ground, no server-specific boards (just tags). If most everyone gets on the same server, awesome. I'd be glad for it to happen. But on the likely chance that the QC/Midgard populace gets splintered (face it: do you really think that our recently-added Midgardsormr residents will willingly choose to go to the same server as most of Quetz natives? Because I don't), I certainly wouldn't want any feelings of alienation on my hands.

Just sayin'.

I say we should expand, but be sure to keep all the things that make QCDN great (or as many as possible).

I AGREE WITH EVERYTHING SHOMEGHUYE SAYS HERE.

Even the URL. EDN sounds like "Erectile Dysfunction News". EODN gives it that "Quetzalcoatl = QC" feeling.

eodn.org sounds fine. And because you run the site Miros D:

And no offense to the Midgard people, but do we really care if they join us or not? I mean, people on Quetz have been planning to try to be on the same server before Midgard came into the picture. We pick a server, they can pick the same server or we pick a server, they can pick a different server. If they want to do what we are trying to do and make a separate server a Midgard primary server, then they can make a thread saying the same thing.

The problem I feel BG/Alla/KI has is that they have every server's assholes and just one server's assholes. That's the thing that really keeps me around QCDN is even though it as idiots, trolls, and assholes, it's not enough of them to make me want to leave the site. But when I look at a site like BG, I'm like "good god, how can people take this?"

Guess what, JP? Staff of [whateverffxiv.com] will be able to handle cross-server jackoffs just like we do on QCDN.

One at a time.

Sept 22nd for special, Sept. 30 for regular edition. and march 2011 for ps3. those are street dates though, so don't be surprised if its a day later or two before you get it. Unless your in cali. or get it from walmart who seems to love selling before official street dates. lol hopefully because it's SE it'll just be there on time.

Also, going to have to agree with Tristam, I don't know what server i'd want to be on, and that could be swayed by people i'm currently still playing with in game. I wouldn't want to make any rash decisions. Lets see what they are throwing our way first. I know when I started XI, all my friends were saying we HAVE to be on Quetz and then they all server transferred to Midgard, and well..yeah.

Shut your face. I'd prefer less stress on the staff, gosh.

Some fun ones -

eonp.org - Eorzea national press

eonr.org - Eorzea national recorder

eonl.org - Eorzea natinoal leaf

eon.org - The Eorzea National (currently held by squatters).

if you want to go that route (calling it National), I'd say do "enpress.org / enrecorder.org / engazette.org", etc.

How about the EorzeNationalTimes.com? If you like the National idea.. If not it could just be EorzeaTimes.com.
