US draft bill to be introduced to congress

The fact that the bill is even gona be up again should concern people. You can think that "It will never pass". And the day it does go threw it would be too late to voice up on the issue. With Iran and N.Korria doing what there doing its only a matter of time before one side snaps. You might not see it as a religious war. But to them they do. Iran wants to bring out the 12th Imam which I think is simular to armagadion in the bible. (any muslims here to clarify that?) And if they get nucliar weapons things will not be good.

It's not going to pass. Bush may be an idiot, but he isn't stupid enough to sign this.

We aren't even close to needing a draft. We haven't even used the fucking reserves or half of our military yet.

Also, there can't be armageddon right now. It's also in the bible, right before that part, that there's going to be 200(I think) years of no warfare (NONE) before that happens.

Quite some ways from that happening.

Iran already has Nukes, and they arent nuking yet because they dont wanna get fucking destroyed by every other country in the world. It would be a war on land way before a war by nukes. And im lucky enough to not get drafted cuz im gonna get lerned in collage! Haha College > Army

You do realize they can draft you out of college now, right? That's no longer a dodge, the same way being out of the country is no longer a dodge.

No, not really. Lots of bills with no hopes of passage are introduced in a legislative session. A lot of the time it's just to try and score some political point (*cough*cough*flag-burning-amendment*cough).

The draft may be reinstated in this country, but it won't be for Iraq or the "war on terror."

4F ftw.

Edit: After some thought i wanted to add: Way to show the nation the democrats have their heads just as far up their collective ass as republicans ... i know alot of people who felt more secure in their leadership after the shift but now not so much lol. I'm still waiting for john Q. to run for office out of the back of his van, until then politics and politicians (specificly) are uselss.

May wanna recheck the law, they changed it after Nam.

This will never get passed, this is the third time since sept 11th that a congressman has attempted to institute the draft so I am not particularily worried.

This law may be a point of concern, but it won't pass. The majority of today's adult popular is old enough to remember the Vietnam War, or had parents who do.

Yes good thinking, let's blame the actions of ONE democrat for the entire party. There are these type of people on all sides of the political spectrum. Since this draft proposal came up again from the same person leads me to believe that even with a democrat run house and congress, this guy is nuts and it will never pass.

Amen to that. What this country needs is less politicians and a damn sight more true statesmen.

Just outta curiosity, does anyone else find it somewhat ironic that the party behind "Vote or Die" is the selfsame party where this draft reinstatement bill originated . . . both times?

Furthermore, there is absolutely no need whatsoever at present for a draft, and if Congress would just get the hell out of the way, give the military what it asks for, and let them do their damn job, there probably never would be again. I think Sun Tzu's The Art of War said it best:

It is the government's decision on when to wage a war; once decided, it is the military's decision on how and where to wage it.

In my humble opinion, only two things made us appear to come out on the losing side of the Viet Nam War - politics and public perception.

There's too much partisanship in government; too many people willing to shoot down reasonable and helpful legislation on the basis of it not coming from "their team," in short - too much party politicking.

It's time to send Democrats and Republicans alike the message that you better damn well stand for something we believe in if you wanna stay in Washington. They need to stop the mud-slinging ads, stop the endless clamoring for the next almighty sound bite, and campaign based off their own voting and attendance records for a change. Think anyone currently in office would have the sack to do that?

Yeah . . . me either.

It's time to vote for people, not parties. Rip the "Vote party" buttons and levers off the damn machines.

This isn't going to pass, like Dejavu said, this is the second time he tried this stunt, and the first time he didn't even voted for this. This is just another political stunt at our (the taxpayers) expense.

Alyada, The last time this came up, while the Republicans holding both Houses, it was voted down, with 100% of them voting against. This isn't about parties, but stupidity (in actually thinking our military needs or want a draft).

This is not what the Islamofacist want. They want to dominate the world for Allah. Basically make the world his "gift", if you will. Rid all other religions and unite the world under their extremely torn, it's not the real Muslim religion (obviously), Muslim religion. Destroying the world does not accomplish that. However, if we'd get some pansy ass people out of office, we could deal with them once and for all and move on next to Korea, no problem. When America starts working on its problems instead of trying to stay politically correct, things will get done. I think we'll see a hardy change in our system before the draft is re-instated. Re-instating the draft is political suicide and that's a thought most politicians, today, can't bare.

If the draft is re-instated what would I do? Nothing different than I do now. I would not go, I would not run, and I would not hide under the current direction of this country as a whole. I support Bush and the war but I do not support the grab ass techniques used in getting it under control. One of America's most famous features is now looking to be its downfall, media. Stop worrying about the media and being politically correct and lets get some things done.

BTW, I hear facemasked fanatics give good XP until level 63, confirm/deny?

Are you really going to blame the media for the downfall of the nation? Or just Fox News?

Fox news isn't the only shitty news.

Anyway, I'm more worried about the chances of me not being able to smoke in a bar, in Texas, anymore than the draft bill getting pushed through. He's not even, really, 'seriously' pushing it this time and last time he basically got laughed off the floor. This guy is a total boob.

lol, this isn't a real bill, this is Charley Rangel attempting to make a point. The last time a similar bill came into congress he voted against it. He is politically manuevering to make a point, legislature approved the war because they felt their lives or families weren't affected(according to him) and that if a draft that may affect legislatures families was a realistic possibility it would slow the idea of using the military as a solution to certain global threats (Korea, Iran, etc).

So basically, this is a big pulpit for Rangle to say only the poor and down troden and minorities are the ones FORCED into military service while the wealthy, white, and intelligent go to college. This is basically a line the democrats have been towing for years, painting men and women in uniform as poor victims of circumstance with no other options forced into conflicts they want no part of. However, scientific polls and surveys totally dispells this rediculous idea as the current make up of our armed forces point to the exact opposite of this idea and the current reinlistment rates are astoundingly high.

Public schools kind of reinforce the military stereotype, as when I attended high school, college was the only presentable option by the ciriculum and the military and vocational studies were black sheepish or shameful even

I like how most people think the military is some sort of punishemnt. I wasnt even born here and im serving my country. its a shame when Americans dont want to donate their time to their own country.
I also think its funny when ppl say they will bail out of american and go to canada. But what if America loses? whats going to stop the enemy from going into Canada? politics?

The army currently is less about defence and more about foreign politics. You're not serving your country, you're serving the good ol boys in the capitol.

This only applies to a defencive war that'll never happen. You're not gonna get invaded by a foregn power. You'll just get bombed into ash or somesuch, along with most of the rest of the planet. People jump to canada to avoid going to war in some foregn country that has little to do with the US (See, Vietnam, Iraq)

That, and no one attacks canada. We're just too awsome.

I'm all for defending the country if there is an immediate threat. If this had been World War II I would be right there on that beach. However this is not that war and nor are they the same circumstances. I don't want to be shipped off to a war I don't believe in to die for people who really don't give a damn. Helping the Iraqi people gain a stable nation is a very noble cause but they way it's been handled from all sides has made it a extremely bleak.
Sometimes I wonder why all the politicians are pro-life when they just want to send us off to die anyway.

The point is even the most brain dead politician on either side of the fence knows better then to come out about the draft let alone propose a bill simply because it's a political death warrant to your constituants wether you've got an axe to grind, point to make, or you just happen to be a bat-shit insane politician. It's not like i'm downing the whole party for this yahoo but, as stated, i had alot of friend rubbing their hands and smiling at the powershift who are now not so bolstered by the idea that this nutbag is public and chomping at the bit to send em off to N. korea to prove a point about Bush. :P

I'm also pointing out that the democrats haven't really been in the media for much lately other than 'zomg bush blah blah blah' same crap for 6-7 years now and THIS, of all things, is the first media bomb since they took the capitol. This sort of thing only hurts the party as a whole and on a more positive note gives a few people some desperately needed perspective about politics as a whole let alone their parties of choice.

Edit: on the note of patriotism in service: I love service people, bigger folks than me no doubt. In the same respect i think they're the most abused people in, on, around, or having to do with america. I'd be more inclined to serve if i saw the military being put to good use for/in america instead of playing grabass with our enemies for the past 20 years at least just so the politicians have something to keep the rest of us in line about. I'll count my medical rejection as a blessing and keep fighting the good fight at home; where it's needed and welcomed. :P

If you're waiting for an opportunity like WWII where there is a clear cut bad guy and good guy, you're not going to find it. Not in todays world, that's the whole point on the U.N.

Bottom line is joining the United States Navy was the best decision I ever made. Any time someone mentions the military all anyone ever thinks about is getting shipped off to Iraq(understandibly). But there is so much more to it than that. By the time you're through basic and realize what you are apart of, you may just find yourself volunteering because you're brothers and sisters and are over there fighting and you want to be right there with them.
