Use the Windower? Watch what you say

All im sayin is the people want SE to come down on bots using 3rdPP and the when it come to them using a 3rdPP its ok. Why cant people play the game for the game. So you wait while your lookin for a party. Do you wait in line at the bank on friday afternoon? Just play.

Tyran, all you've done is whine about it being a third party program. We all know this, we don't care. You keep saying play it like it was meant to be played, or play it just for the game. I played XI for over a year without a windower, and the entire time I hated the fact that while I was sitting lfg or something, that I couldn't use my computer for anything else. I "played it like it was supposed to be played," and once I got a windower, the game got FAR more tolerable when there was nothing happening. I haven't used the windower for cheating, but I have used it to do homework, check maps/quests, talk to friends via aim, all while XI has been running. Or my best and by far most illegal use of the windower yet, while lfg, I've watched an episode of an anime.

Yes, it's through a third party program, but I would have done it if the windower had come standard. We don't all have a second computer or the PS2 version to use so that we can actually DO something while we wait in jeuno. Forgive me if I find sitting in town staring at my chat log waiting for "XXXX invites you to join a party" boring as hell. WoW incorporated the windower into the game at the launch, and you don't see people bitching about it being used for cheating, do you?

Until you actually say something other than "it's illegal" or "it's a third party program," both of which everyone already knows and acknowledges, just shut up. You haven't contributed a damn thing to this thread besides pointing out the obvious repeatedly. Yes, if you use the windower to cheat, you should be punished, because you're cheating. If you're using it so that you can actually use your computer while you have XI up, it's not. I can't think of a single way that me writting a lab report could be considered cheating.

If you dont have time to play FFXI dont play FFXI.

One of the things that really bugged me here was the way the GM acted towards the player. Every time he requested getting a lighter sentance for giving out the information all he got back was a termination threat. And his question of "Who else will be getting suspended for using the windower" is valid, but almost everytime the player said something, the threat of termination came up. Makes me wonder if the GMs are here to help us or just attempt to terminate our account.

If I were him I'd be sending in a letter to SE about the way the GM handles the situations...but then again I'm sure everyone already feels this way. *shrugs*

I am not too upset with the tone the GM used. It's obvious that the person in question was being a smart ass in the beginning. The whole "What's the sentence? " shows he isn't really concerned with the punishment. The "Keep it a {Secret}" again is smart assed. Honestly at that point if it were in my power I would put him up for termination. The GM isn't the one that was wrong. He was there for the fact that he was "caught" (probably observed him bragging through /tell or /l ) using a 3rd party program. Then he is going to whine about a 4 day suspension? You speed, you get a ticket and if you don't get a ticket then you are lucky. (bad example I guess because most people find the cops at fault for catching them speeding too) It's the same thing in this senerio, he's lucky to have only gotten 4 days.

Do I think using the windower in and of itself as horrible? No.

If it allows cheating to be easier do I want to see the windower stopped? Yes.

I also understand that cheating will find a way to happen regaurdless but the more complicated it is made the fewer people will be knowledgable enough to take advantage of it.

Maybe you enjoy staring a screen for hours on end while you wait around, but I don't. A windower isn't a "gateway cheat," if they wanted to cheat, they'd cheat without it too. Until you can prove that everyone with a windower is actually cheating, it's a harmless app that a few people are exploiting and ruining it for the rest of us.

Again, NO ONE is disputing that it's not legal, so stop bringing it up. Bringing it up 100 times isn't going to be more effective than bringing it up 20 times.

Also, the only reason I use it is so that while I'm sitting around waiting for something to happen(party invites, dynamis, HNM's, etc.) I won't just be wasting time staring at a wall. If I had a second computer and a KVM switch, it would be exactly the same; but since I can't afford a second computer, I have to use a windower. I've got the time to play, but I don't consider waiting around to be playing.

Of course players are going to be smartasses, but if they are actually trying to minimize the problem of windowers, then keeping up the threat of termination is a poor decision in my book. Something about that just bugged me, I dunno. lol

I normally play on a PS2, however I sometimes am on the road and stuck in a hotel and the only way to play is on my laptop. Unfortunately my laptop can't handle FS mode and can only be played in the Windower. So yes, I love my windower and will continue to use it.

That being said, I would gladly give it up if it got rid of cheats, however that isnt going to happen. Hell most of the fishing bots were written without using the windower....

Pull up /map can you move (auto run yes but only strait) with this you can use on any map dungons (or maybe an automated map) and all windower also alows people to see the HP% of all targets. You not gonna win its cheating.
