Using Rank as a party member filter?

IMHO, i dont think rank has to do much w how a much experience a pc has, my last pt were all rank 2, we were lvlin in Qufim, and this is how it pretty much went :WAR20/MNK10(me), THF22/?,WAR22/MNK11, WHM22/?, DRK22/BLM11, and BLM22/?
we pulled more than 2000 exp in the first 20 min, SC EVERY battle, and we only had two deaths (puller got aggroed by a banshe, he ran opposeite of pt to prevent more deaths, whm went to help and died too...shit hapns) :D . and everyone lvled at least twice. so to me rank has nothing to do w skill or skill has nothin to do w rank, ppl r good players or not. :D
 
I use rank as a filter. I am getting to the point where, if an LFP doesn't have Rank 5 - I'm not even going to ask. I will make a few exceptions but usually never under Rank 3. This applied to Valk Dunes as well on my 3rd time through and Lo and Behold! I was out of dunes 9 hours - Lv12-20.

I consider Rank3 a point where people really start understanding the mechanics of FFXI a lot more. Of course, judging by rank is never foolproof.

I think this nails it perfectly.

Rule of thumb for me is rank. I look for job combos first, but when it comes down to a tie breaker rank has it. If I need a Blm and there is a Rank1 Taru and a Rank5 Hume seeking, Ill take the Hume. I know taru is "supposed" to be able to do their job better, but more times than not, the Rank5 will have better gear and will be more compitent. Why you ask? Im not sure, but one theory would be that if they're "too lazy" to do the missions and advance the story line, than they are probably too lazy to farm and craft and update gear, and only do the level grind. Just my two cents.

Very true. Like I said though, it's a general rule of thumb and doesnt ALWAYS hold true. The reverse is also true as I have seen some really dumb people with an airship pass.

It's true, I have done it twice. You may ask my LS members Teck or Darenn who saw it for confirmation.
