Vanguard

How's the commitment factor for levelling? Is it more soloable/less time consuming like WoW, or is it balls-to-the-walls like FFXI?

The time commitment seems to be between FFXI and WoW. More towards FFXI I think. Leveling seems quicker because you can go out and solo on some 2 dot mobs while looking for a group or complete some solo quests that will give you some exp upon finishing them. There doesn't have to be any downtime while looking for group which is unlike ffxi. You can group and you can solo. Soloing is slower of course, certain classes are better at it than others, and if you want to see the coolest looking areas and get better drops you want to group.

From the games I've played I would rank the amount of level grinding feel thusly:

Lineage II > FFXI > Vanguard > EQ2 > WoW

If you are an explorer this game is for you simply because you can get on top of any hill, swim out to islands in the horizon, if you see it you can get to it (may need a flying mount but you can get there).

Edit: One area where things can slow down is if you are wanting to work off some of your KoS faction.

This game is almost breaking my resolve to not touch MMOs...

If any of you happen to join the FFA-PvP server, put ANYONE with Ebonlore or Voodoo on your KOS list. They're a bunch of faggots who camp ports to travel between continents.......

Here's a tip, do it while you can.

If you want to make money on the PvP servers, roll a SOR alt.

Get to level 10-12 and go to the Hive on Qalia. (by Khal)

Spam your AoE moves on groups and volia~ 12-60 silver right in your pocket.

Me and 4 of my buddies are doing this tomorrow, if you see us, run. ;)

PS. FINALLY FINISHED GRINDING KHAL FACTION <333333

My cousin whom I have never met in RL sent me an email sayin' we should WoW it up. I'm gonna see if he wants to vanguard it up instead. Oh man this is gonna be so ballin'. Are there different servers for Australia/US? If there are I'm gonn cry. ;_;

You can join any server I think. I hear people call the team pvp server a EU server. I would recommend checking out a couple of affiliate sites like Silkyvenom or tentonhammer to find out for sure.

While Vanguard looks interesting, I must say this.

There doesn't have to be any downtime while looking for a group in FFXI. Only a complete idiot sits around doing nothing ingame while looking for a party. You can go out and farm, do some easy repeatable weekly quests(Bait and Switch, Chocobo Return, etc.) The only time consuming bore-fest that comes from LFP is from those who are too shortsighted to realize they can do other things while seeking.

Oh I did stuff like farm, fish, and what not while LFG the thing I am saying is sometimes all you want to do is gain some exp and you are at the mercy of others while in Vanguard if you really want to gain some exp you can no matter what.

I mean back in the days when Monks were second to last to get invites in the mid to late 30's on up because they can't close or open distortion and the perception was they sucked as DD (basically pre-tp burn fad) I would LFP and farm for days straight with no invites. I had to make my own groups which would often breakup before we ever got started.

Edit: Also know that while there is plenty I like about the game there are still bugs aplenty. Sigil is trying to smooth everything out but the fact still remians that they shipped the game earlier that they really would have liked because after 5 years of development they ran out of resources. The game is by no means the ultimate MMO and honestly a lot of the hype Sigil pumped out pre launch isn't in the game. It is a game with a lot of potential but if bugs here and there will make you hate the game I would suggest waiting a couple months before trying it out.

Thank you for the info. I might give it a shot in a couple of months then.^^

No offense intended but you are never "at the mercy of others" when you want to get xp in FFXI (with the exception of times where no one is seeking and even then you can solo somewhat depending on job). Making a party isn't exactly a difficult thing, you just have to jump in and do it. :)

You should be able to do the same thing in FFXI really. You can, but people are so close-minded that they wont invite anyone not in Jeuno/Whitegate now-a-days

Putting together an elite endgame -bound squad here if any serious players are interested. We're playing under the name "Validus". Website will be live in a few days.

/tell Anaeran on Thunderaxe server if interested in checkin us out.

Poking my head in here to say I'm playing this game.

Send me a tell if your on woefeather, names Judhas Preest.

Also OP, your continents names are wrong but its no biggie

I've been playing this game also, Very fun currently leveling a Bard on the " Infinium(EU)" Server names Spriggan.

Very interesting game, looks like Sigil are trying to take it back to the old EQ1 days. In my opinion tho Sigil should not of released this game yet, I would of liked them to of held off on the game to work out some of there major bugs that are still in the game coursing alot of trouble for alot of players.

That being said the game is very fun and has a nice steady learning curve, Very group heavy game tho many classes can solo to 50 (although it might be slow and you would be gimping yourself later on). Lets hope they keep it interesting with lots of content to come, Me personally im holding out for the Berserker class to be released.

--------
Spriggan Bard Infinium(EU) < Playing the most resently
Ominae Warrior Infinium(EU)
Spriggan Shaman Gelenia(EU)

Feel free to contact me in game.

Definitely should have held off on the release as there are some major bugs to be worked out, but all and all a great game I think. Vanguard will be at the top of the MMO charts once all the kinks are worked out.

Throwing it out there that the guild I'm gearing up for serious end gaming is taking shape on Thunderaxe server. Website is up at www.validusguild.info if anyone playing or looking to play is interested in a "hardcore" kind of raid group. While we're still learning the game and leveling up and such, we intend to be serious contenders when it comes to content progression down the road.
