Everytime I try to take a screenshot in game.... my comp freezes up and I have to shut it down. Any ideas why this happens?(Gets kind of annoying when I see something cool in game...)

Btw my card is an ATI 9600XT... bout a year old.

That sounds more like a software issue than a hard ware issue. What makes you suspect you video card? Are you using the ingame screenshot program or fraps? Have you run disk checker and defragment recently on your hard drive? Have you done a file check on ffxi? Have you tried SiSoftware Sandra to check your hardware? Have you double checked the wiring inside the computer? Tried reseating ram and power hook ups to video card and hard drive? So many things it could be with this little information.

I'm using the ingame screenshot program, I defrag my comp once every 2 weeks or so(did it a few days ago). I had my friend check the wiring(but he may have missed something I don't know). As for checking the files, so I haven't done that. Maybe I'll dig up the ATI discs and try reinstalling the software.

I meant ffxi's file checker. Before you log into pol, it has an option for checking files. Have you tried using a different screenshot program such as fraps or the many avaialble at download.com? You might try reinstalling you video card drivers (be sure to uninstall the old ones first). I suppose it could be an issue with your ide drivers too.

It sounds more like a driver problem to me. Try installing the latest versions of your drivers. Also, take the above recommendation and try out something like FRAPS and see waht happens.

Dont use the drivers that came in the disc. Go to ATI.com or do a google for Catalyst 5.7 (I use these drivers and imo they're the best out so far, never ones are still buggy.)

I had a similar problem, well kinda, my PC used to freeze for a second or two when I tried to take a screenshot, and then sound would suddenly screw up for the rest of the game, and it all happened after I installed Service Pack 2 for Windows XP, along with some other issues it brought me, dunno if that mught be it for you, IMO SP2 is crap, just puts you a crappy firewall (who the hell needs firewalls if you got a good router by you) and some "You're an idiot, we must protect you" messages, god, I hate when them guys at microsoft think PC users are morons, anyways, it *might* be that it might not, just telling you that I had a similar problem.
