Im havin troubles watching any movies on a video player suck as Winamp, Realplayer, itunes, Windows media player, movies do not play on them they simply crash my computer, BUT i can watch movies on youtube, and i can watch movies on Myspace break and other movie/video sites. i believe the problem is my graphics card but i dont know why, i dont think its a codec issue because EVERY VIDEO that i download to watch crashes my computer :\ any know what the problem could be?
I have a Nvidia Geforce 6600. HELLP!!!

That's a tough one. New drivers?

Could still be a codec issue, have you verified that each video you crash on is using a different codec?

Nah i havent been able to tell i cant even RUN a video on my computer it just makes the monitor go like blank then it comes back and everything goes REALLLY REALLY SLOW and then it reboots

When you say the PC crashes, do you really mean it freezes then you have to restart the PC by manually using the kill switch ?

yea i tryed to reinstall my video card drivers, even my friedn though that would work, and some times it reboots it self when it crashes but most of the time the montior just freezes up and everything MOVES slower than slow and it you can fix it with anything but a reboot

Ok so it's freezing.

Try setting the hardware acceleration to level 3.

go to Desktop properties>Settings tab>click on advanced>Go to trouble shoot tab.

You will see the hardware acceleration tab. If it's not already cranked up set it to the 3rd setting. In any case make sure write combining is enabled in the check box.

You should be able to watch videos now without any problems. But it's possible you might have to put it back the way it was when you want to play games.

Let me know what happens.

Wow thanks that worked im watching movies now, THANK YOU! =D

You will have to increase them when you want to play games again.

You can know better than i, if you tried running a game while it's like that. It depends on how demanding the game is i'm guessing. Test it out for us if you can.

yea you have to reset it :( kinda sad because whenever i forget to do it it makes my wow go HAYWIRE =( DOOM ON YOU WINDOWS!

It's the Geforce's fault, that problem happens to some of them. i don't know any other solutions but there has to be a better one.

I'm wondering. If there if there is a macro software available for Windows ? That would make switching the hardware acceleration more efficient for you lol.

that i dont know about :( im just gonna have to switch it when i wana browse videos or downloadem i guess :\ ahh well thanks for the help man

I couldn't recommend reliable ones. I've used AutoIT to create automated install sets but it's extremely finicky, click your mouse at the wrong time and it will hang the script. Not recommended for the average user.

Glad you guys got it somewhat figured out.
