Topic. I reformatted my pc today, didn't change OS or anything but had to reinstall drivers as expected. Now FFXI looks like absolute shit. worse than my old pc, where as it looked top notch before.

I'm using the same drivers, what's the fucking deal?

Did you remember to change your video card preference to the correct slot (PCI-E prolly) in the setup menu at startup? Whenever I format I wipe the CMOS for a fresh start. XP? Vista? Other?

This would only matter if he had two video cards and happened to plug his monitor into the "wrong" one when reinstalling.

It would help to know what kind of card and the driver versions. Also, a screenshot would help or even something a little more detailed than "it looks like shit"

Sorry about my original post. I was a little bit angry about the whole thing, spending 2 hours to reformat only to turn up worse than previously.

My problem was, windows had installed a default graphics engine driver for the card upon install, and was taking priority over all of my other drivers. Once I uninstalled that, the other drivers took over, and it looked fine again.

I guess I get a little cranky at night, :P

Jeez, my fps is dead now. I used to be max fps everywhere, now going into anywhere with people takes it to under 10 fps.

I run a NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT. I'm using those FFXI drivers, and on vista 32bit. Still really bad fps. Worked fine before I reformatted.

Card didn't crap out. Did you check your advanced settings? Try uninstalling all drivers for the related video hardware, restarting, then reapplying (and then restarting again). This may fix your issue. If you're still getting bad FPS, make sure you adjust your advanced settings accordingly. Wiping a hard drive won't kill a video card my friend, unless you went in your machine yourself and decided to hit the thing with a wrench or screwdriver. If that's the case, it may be broken. =P.

If it's not the case however, just try the above mentioned, if that still doesn't work... well, maybe then Cmdr can help.
