Virtual Console: Wii-kly Update

surprised nobody here has mentioned wanting to get Beyond Oasis, that was a great game on the Genesis and had a sequel, either for Sega CD or 32X CD, or something. both were really really good games

edit: sequel was for the Sega Saturn, called Legend of Oasis. it was very awesome as well

I bought Beyond Oasis since the guys from Joystiq were raving about how great it was and because it was only $8. I've played a few minutes of it, and it seems pretty good.

Im kinda pissed- I got 2 Wiis @ home and mine cant connect to the internet ._. and i want to download these games so badly ;-;- it did conect once, but now it doesnt, i cant even find the signal of my router that is less than2 feet away from and and if i conect it directly it doesnt recognize shit ._.

Having same problem, tried to connect my wii to the internet but when it says testing connection, it just stays there forever, I'm been having to turn the wii off.

Just like the remotes, there's a minimum range for the signal to be optimally effective, you may want to get your Wii and router a decent range apart, and don't forget that most routers (especially ones with DHCP set up) take a minute or two to detect and accept any devices connecting to them. If your first connection attempt fails, try again a couple times to see if you can land a decent connetion, if you can't, then try configuring your router's wireless signal settings.

Edit: did a little writeup on the connection troubles, check here and see if anything works for you.

This week's VC offerings:

Galaga - NES - 500 Points
Bravoman - Turbografx16 - 600 Points
Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle - Sega Genesis - 800 Points

I'm only familiar with Galaga, so none of these are screaming "Buy me!" at the moment. Anyone play the others and know if they're any good?

Alex the Kidd in Miracle World was pretty fun.

Defeat boasses with rock paper scissors, woopwoop!

Dunno if enchanted castle is the same.

I used to play that game every day when I was little. Rock/Paper/Scissors bosses used to piss me off to no end, and I sucked at the motorcycle parts. (My mom used to have to do them. Embarassing.)

I now have the theme going through my head. I made up words for it when I was little, and I'll be singing it all day. Awesome.

Never played 'Enchanted Castle' but I'd get it if it was similar to 'Miracle World.'

BravoMan? Hell yes.

I'm going to be reviewing this game and posting it on YouTube anyway.

Why? I'm doing a massive YouTube video about the characters in Namco X Capcom. I'm going to make the information available on my website.

Bravoman is a very obscure NAMCO character who made the roster in the game.

Downloaded Alex Kidd and the Enchanted Castle.

Alex Kidd in Miracle World was way better, but this game isn't too bad. Frickin hard though. Start with two lives, no continues ever. I had to start from the beginning seven times before I gave up.

Speaking of Miracle World, is the Virtual Console ever going to have SEGA Master System games? I don't recall seeing any yet, and there are some games from the Master System I would love to play, namely Fantasy Zone 2.

(The title might be Fantasy World 2, but i can't check. Something tells me Google-ing "Fantasy Zone" while at work woul dbe a bad idea...)

This week's VC offering looks pretty solid:

Punch Out! (w/ Mr. Dream) - NES - 500 Points
Virtua Fighter 2 - Sega Genesis - 800 Wii Points
Bonk's Revenge - TurboGrafx16 - 600 Wii Points

Too bad we can't get Mike Tyson's Punch Out, since it's more satisfying to punch him than "Mr. Dream." Little Mac's ears are safe now...

So finally! Punchout comes out. I've been waiting for that game for quite some time.

The "Punch Out" with Mr. Dream was a re-issuing of the original game cartridge, they replaced Mike Tyson with a smarmy white dude--Basically, its Mike Tyson, but with a simple color pallette swap.

Why change it? Simple.

Mike Tyson lost the title belt some time after the release, and Nintendo pretty much said: "Fuck it. We're not endorsing you anymore."

I wonder if we'll see "Conker's Bad Fur Day" on the Virtual Console... Or is Nintendo going to "chicken out" and not release it because they're trying to maintain their image as a "Family" company...

Conker runs into the Rareware problem again that they have with Goldeneye

His legal woes have robbed us of a rich piece of our gaming history. Thankfully Glass Joe survived the scandals.

I haven't played Punch Out for so long, that I think I will lose the Glass Joe fight if I try it right now...

Of course Glass Joe survived--for reasons I shouldn't state.

I don't know--But does it seem a bit racist that the first guy you fight in Mike Tyson's Punch Out is a wimpy French man?

And think about it... The next two fighters are Baron Von Kaiser and Piston Honda... A German and a Japanese Man... All three are getting their asses whomped (or "Thwomped" if you're an avid YTMND.com fan) by a spry little fresh-faced punk from the bronx?

Can you say "U.S.A. in da hizzy, biatch?!"
