Virtual Console: Wii-kly Update

Yeah, I'm hoping we see it and some of the other titles from that poll, although NoA has been ignoring Earthbound fans for years, I hope this lights a fire under their ass, hell maybe even bring Mother 3 over finally.

Try to contain your enthusiasm...

Pokémon Puzzle League - Nintendo 64 - 1,000 Points
Get ready for a new kind of Pokémon battle where the power and speed of your brain are just as important as the strength of your Pokémon. Join Ash, Brock, Misty and many more characters from the Pokémon animated series as they gather in Puzzle Village to compete for the title of Pokémon Puzzle Master. Just match three or more blocks of the same color in any direction. Sounds simple, right? But the actual game play is surprisingly addictive and deep (chains and combos anyone?), especially when you're facing off against a human opponent. Choose from six different modes offering a wide range of action, from story or puzzle modes to continuous play or timed play. If that's not enough, take on the challenge in 3-D and get ready for more blocks than ever before. Featuring animated cut scenes combined with bright, fun graphics, there's enough to satisfy any fan of Pokémon or puzzle games.

Renegade - NES - 500 Points
Renegade follows the story of a vigilante who fights his way through countless gangs in order to bring peace back to his city. Battle your way through subways, parks, alleyways and parking lots. For added fun, there's a wild motorcycle ride to challenge you. Use your arsenal of kicks, punches (including the infamous sit-on punch) and jump kicks, as well as a variety of throws to knock your opponents into submission. Along the way, pick up items like a hamburger that restores your life, a heart that increases your lives by one, a power-up to increase your attack strength, and a speed item that gives you a speed burst while on your motorcycle. You'll need all the help you can get to take out your aggression on street punks, thugs, outlaw bikers, killer kung-fu females and an array of bosses standing in your way. Take the law into your own hands to defeat countless scumbags and take your city back like the renegade you are.

Pokémon Puzzle League

Remember Tetris Attack? This played very similar to that. One of the better puzzle games for N64 in my opinion. I still want Tetrisphere!

They launched the new Nintendo Channel out here in the United States this morning.

It's pretty fun to see commercials for stuff. I was watching that 8min Interview Video with Shigeru Miyamoto.

No VC update this week, as today marks the release of WiiWare.

Starting today, Wii owners with an Internet connection can download new, creative games from a wide range of developers, from large publishers to indie shops.
...

Just go to the WiiWare section of the Wii Shop Channel, find the game you want, redeem Wii Points and start the download. ... New games, at various Wii Point values, will be added to WiiWare on Mondays. The newly launched Nintendo Channel on Wii will let people view videos of and read information about WiiWare games and other Nintendo products. Users also can see player opinions to help them decide what to play next.

Today, the inaugural lineup of WiiWare games is just a taste of things to come:

Compete against family and friends and use your Wii Remote controller in original ways to make it to the finals to see who can win the greatest amount of cash in one final, deciding duel.

I'll probably grab My Life as a King and Lost Winds, though according to the Nintendo Channel Dr. Mario was supposed to be a launch title too, guess I'm waiting longer for that.

1.5k for My Life as a King... holy crap.
Gonna grab Defend Your Castle, of course.

1.5k for the starter game. If you want to use additional races, it's going to cost you for the extra buildings to unlock them. This is the sort of Lumines "DLC" bullshit that really turns me off. I appreciate when they come back and add stuff later to give you a reason to go back to a game and keep it fresh, but when you launch a game with features missing unless you're willing to pony up the extra cash... bleh.

Where's the new Dr. Mario?! I was lied to.

<Borat Sagdiyev> ...*Plays My Life as King*...

King in the Castle... King in the Castle...

I have a chair! ... Go do this! Go do this!

...King in the Castle!

Found out that the new Dr. Mario comes out next week...on my birthday, no less.

If that's not an omen I don't know what is.

Oh, least it's coming next week, that's been the main WiiWare title I've been waiting for. Well, I guess Gyrostarr too. Edit: And I just checked and I guess that's releasing next week too? Score

What I really want them to do is release more Virtual Console games at a time. It used to be 3 games a week. Now it's down to 2 or 1 game a week. Where the hell are the games?! The titles on the Virtual Console should be well over 500+ by now--And I'm counting at an estimated average in total from all consoles available and their libraries (I know the number should be well around 8,000+, but I'm just Estimating what we should have so far).

Yeah, that's one thing that ticks me off about the VC lately, generally 1-2 a week nowadays, and mostly shovelware, least to me.

mmmm, not too impressed with that Lost winds thing.

The character you play as is ...ehhhh. I don't like looking at the huge ass head, I guess.
Defend your Castle provides some minor entertainment though

Thanks for the head's up, Naota.

I'm playing Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life As King right now, to find out how much money Square-Enix screwed me out of THIS time (and they've done it a lot over the years... The Dear Friends and MORE FRIENDS Musical Concerts in Los Angeles... Price-Gouging at the 2006 and 2007 FanFests... Pimping out FF7 and older FF games...)

I've barely started FFCC:MLAK so far... But as far as the storyline goes, it appears to be a Gaiden (Side-Story) between the original FFCC on Gamecube, and the new ones coming on Wii and DS.

I'll bring you up to speed--since I'm sure some people haven't touched the NGC game... The original FFCC on Gamecube was about a strange Meteor (if I remember correctly) that crashed into the world. Releasing a horrible Miasma across the planet... A poisonous purple mist... Along with the Miasma came Monsters that could lurk freely inside the Mist... Cities were lost... People were fleeing for their lives...

Until they finally found refuge in the radiating glow of large Crystals scattered across the land that held the Miasma at bay.

So people formed townships and villages surrounding the central radius of the Crystals.

The Crystal's energy begins to wane every year or so. So Caravans full of adventurers must make a journey outside of their protected towns to search for Myrrh trees to obtain a total of 3 drops of Myrrh into their Crystal Chalices (A large cup with a small crystal shard embedded in the middle of it to protect themselves from the Miasma as they ventured forth).

Once the Myrrh is obtained, the adventurers return to their respective home towns, perform a ceremony with the village elder, and douse the Myrrh onto the Crystal. Therefore refreshing its energy for one more year.

Next year comes. Lather, Rinse, Repeat. All the while, trying to find the source of the Miasma.

---

Now here's where FFCC:MLAK comes in.

After the first FFCC, the Miasma is finally gone. A young King returns to the Kingdom he was forced to abandon years earlier due to the spreading of the Miasma. Only to find his once proud kingdom in disrepair... Along with it, he finds a large crystal that talks to him and gives him the power of "Architek"... (as was mentioned earlier in the thread).

So you play the game in a glorified "Sim City" style. Building residential houses, houses for rich people, places for adventurers you sanction for dungeon spelunking to go build their EXP at, and you get to view reports on your total revenue and funds your kingdom is pulling in. While this is going on, the story gradually unfolds as to what exactly happened with the kingdom.

The adventurers you sanction by default are Clavats only (In FFXI terms, they're "Humes")... There's only four races and four jobs in the game. Clavats (All-Rounded Fighters), Lilties (Melees), Yukes (Mages), and Selkies (Basically MNK and THF classes with high AGI / DEX)...

As far as online content goes... The fact that Square-Enix milks your money for additional content for even the most basic things... Like getting races BESIDES Clavats to appear in your town... And adding more dungeons for your Adventurers to Spelunk in and earn you more revenue... And more buildings... Is just silly...

I've spent 2,800 Wii Points on this game (Out of a possible 3,000 points) in the hopes that because this is an FF game, it's not gonna suck dog turds.

... I really hope I'll get my money's worth, otherwise I just screwed myself.

This better not suck... SE's always had awkward forays into other game Genres outside of the realm of RPGs...

They tried making a First-Person Shooter with "FF7: Dirge of Cerberus" which was just a cookie-cutter FPS to be honest.

Then a Real-Time Strategy with "Heroes of Mana" on DS...

Now a Sim-City Style Strategy game...

Well... Here we go!

Thanks for the head's up, Naota.
stuff

Lost Winds is not a bad game per-se

Just.. a detestable style of art, and from what I hear, is also a short game.

Two player is like Mario Galaxy, and the movement is fairly slow even while spamming gusts.

Matter of preference really, I already got it, so I'm stuck with it. But all in all, it probably tops alot of the other shitty platformers, controls are very good and smooth for the most part, game is good graphic wise... meh $10
