its a crappy ass NM with a stupid weak shield that youd never even think of having to begin with..

think about it.. will you use it in exp? no youll use staves.

Will you use it solo? no youll use genbu shield (if you arent subbing nin)

Whats that? you dont have genbu shield, arent 75, or dont have a god LS?

then maybe u shouldnt be soloing.. U should be exping to get 75 or making friends so u can join a god shell lol.

well anyways, the shield isnt that bad, but its definetely nothing good to argue about lol. The dang NM is up everytime I exp down there.. not like anyone camps it everyday.

Just curious if you had a point with all of that. Since none of it seems at all relavant.

I think Wak should've told the exp pty that he already told his LS about it and they were on their way or at least notified them about what was going on at least, rather than just acting blindly.

The lack of communication was really what made the situation bad.
I agree ... I do appreciate the forthrightness of Anaeran, and consider him and the rest of the linkshell to be blameless.

As for Wackmidget, however, apologies are still due for leading the party on. He intentionally kept the party in the dark about things, rather than just coming clean about the fact that he was intending to have his linkshell come for the NM. To deceive by omission is still an attempt at deception.

His motives may be more clear, now, but he should have owned up about it. The fact is, he was still trying to pull the wool over his party's eyes, to keep them from taking the NM before his linkshell could get to it. He basically lied. It's not any different from someone /shouting about how they just killed Leaping Lizzy, to try to trick competition into leaving, or someone putting an ordinary scorpion claw up in their bazaar for millions. It may be a less extreme example of this kind of thing, but the principle is still the same. It was deception, for gain.

The more honorable course of action, in my opinion, would simply have been to let the linkshell know that his party was intending to kill it, and to apologize for getting their hopes up. The five other members of this party had far more "entitlement" to the NM, as they were actually there, than did a single party member's linkshell, most of whom were at least minutes away from the zone. Having a desire to forward one's own linkshell is understandable, but not by leading other people on who are under the impression that you're on their side.

Meeze you know yourself, it always about the item that the NM drops. It's the total fun and excitement of the hunt itself. I'm not saying the drops isn't important, just that it's not always about the drop itself.

Ugh, I just cannot type today. That should read: it isn't* always about

Well, you quoted they had every right to claim it, but if no one wanted the drop it would be a waste of a drop. Whereas having a party come in with members who actually want it is a lot better.

The OP never stated if anyone actually wanted that item.

It's the principal behind the fact that he dissuaded the experience party who wanted to try for the NM over his LS and not TELLING the xp party the truth. That's the point I'm trying to agree with.

Ya, it definitely wasn't too smooth of him to leave the party to fight, puts him in the wrong. But if no one wanted the drop no one was cheated out of anything.

Sorry for the de-railement well anyways, the shield isnt that bad, but its definetely nothing good to argue about lol. The dang NM is up everytime I exp down there.. not like anyone camps it everyday.

Sorry for the De-railment on this part, but i actually use this shield. It is one of my favorite items to use, the extra 55mp you get from pairing it up with an Asklepios and the +5% curing potency from the Asklepios is very helpful depending on the party setup and the skill of the members.

Hi there. I am the leader of the linkshell that apparently got called in (Wak is a member of CK) so I will take responsibility for what went down and attempt to defuse the situation.

For the past 40 mins or so I've been talking with folks involved trying to get the story. I know Wak to be an extremely helpful little taru, and he works exceptionally hard to help improve our LS every day. He would never intentionally screw people over for his own personal gain.

As such, when he saw the NM pop, his first reaction was to let his LS know that a NM was up in the area. He had not expected your exp party to target the NM, and had let the shell know as soon as it popped. It was after his initial "/l hey guys the NM is up", that your exp PT noticed it and spoke about killing it. Having already let CK know that it was up (it seems we had folks on the way) he didn't want to get involved with the exp PT killing it and opted to keep you guys exping so as to not compete against his own linkshell.

When our team arrived he did disband and join the CK team briefly to help kill it. I agree with you- this looks pretty bad from your perspective. His intentions were not to screw you guys out of a kill, he was merely supporting his LS that had already been alerted to the presence of the NM. The CK team that had been called in wasn't even aware that the exp PT had any interest in killing the NM until after the fact, and would have backed down had we been informed you guys wanted to try it.

Now I don't entirely agree with Wak's actions here, and I sympathize with your party. I hope you guys can understand that he was already stuck in somewhat of a pickle and by no means meant to mess with your kill.

If there is any way we could make this up to you guys shoot me a tell in game and CK would be happy to make things right for the other 5 members of your party. Once again for all of CK, we are sorry that this situation appears the way it does.

Hmm... That is the reason I love when CK and my LS do events together. They are a honorable LS that have respect, not only because of how long they have been around, but because of their actions of a LS as a whole. They have earned their respect as a LS. And the way Anaeran presents himself on here is an awesome representation of his Ls as a whole. A group is only as good as its leader, if the leader is going down the wrong path.....well the group as a whole is never far behind.

I have to agree with Blazn. It is the -best- shield Pre-Genbu (at least for WHM and perhaps even RDM), and even a good alternative to Genbu's shield. IMO, it is by far better than Astral Shield due to the AGI and INT boost. With Asklepios it is even better than a Healing Staff (and much cheaper because they're both rare/ex). Generally the innitial MP used in times where you want to Boost your MP cap is not even a cure. The only disadvantage is two pieces of gear versus one, but you are receiving 5 more mp.

All of my interactions with Wakmidget have been very positive. I would assume that this is a very selective sittuation and to not take it to heart.

The way that he handled the sittuation was shadey, however I cannot entirely disagree with all of his actions either. As an EXP party your primary concern is to EXP and not nessessarily take on NMs. In almost every single EXP party that I have ever been in that has decided to fight an NM has usually ended up disbanding soon after. Perhaps coincidental, but its true.

He didn't nessessarily wrong you (aside from interupt the flow of EXP)-- he just did not help you either. Hypothetically speaking, would your party have been able to defeat the pelican without his assistance? If the answer is yes, than his actions were truly disappointing. Honestly though, I would shrug it off. I think we are all guilty of interupting other players EXP for whatever reason during some point in our playtime. I think that is what seperates us from being human and not so human. I'd even venture as far to say that if you ever needed help with pelican in the future that he'd help you.

Instead of that whole paragraph you could have said he's a selfish prick.

jay slash kay

I think the point isn't how good the shield is, or if the fight is enjoyable. I think the question is how a person might go about tricking hiw own party members.

The moral of the story?

Does Celestrial Knights as a rule of thumb use underhanded tactics? No.

Does Wakmidget? Apparently.

Did his LS know? No.

Can his LS turn back time and allow the PT to try with the NM? No.

Has their leader offered to do what he can to make things better? Yes.

So this incident appears to reflect badly on the individual member alone. It obviously isn't what you'd expect when dealing with the LS as a group.

Sandria.... I really fucking hate you... I am not fucking Blazn!!!!

Sorry about the name mix up. I never really noticed that. lol.

It's obvious it does not reflect badly on his LS, as they were only going to the aid of an LS member. Which is refreshing, to say the least.

However, before anyone remarks on how underhanded his tactics were to his party members (which are typically a random group of people).. in the same sittuation would you react the same? And by you, I do not just mean you Firestreak. But, in general circumstances. Say you're in an exp party and pass by an NM that drops a high-end money drop, are you going to not call upon your LS to kill the NM to benifit your shell or even yourself? I have known many who would pass by a soloable NM and disband to kill said NM and return to their party without little thought. And truthfully, some rare/ex gear is just as good if not better than money drops. I am guessing that the OP was wanting the shield also, or there wouldn't be much room to be upset.

If the group, without the assistance of Wakmidget, could take down the NM without a problem than yes he wronged them more so than this thread lets on. I am willing to bet that the party *might* have been able to win. But, Pelican is generally best tanked by a lvl 75 THF not a NIN-- especially one that is not even level 75 as of yet. One mistake and it would've been over.

And, with that in mind, had their been a wipe and the LS arrived.. would the OP have assumed that an error causing the wipe was purposefully done? Now I would go as far to say if he purposefully caused the party to wipe and not only lose the NM but experience points-- he wronged the party. Chosing not to do an NM with a random group of people, to me, is not wrong. If it were a sellable item-- it would've been a matter of who's LS arrived first.

In a perfect society it would be very nice if we could have pick-up parties running around and killing whatever was in our path for the fun of the hunt. You cannot possibly tell me that rangers would find a noteworthy NM on their wide-scan and rush to their EXP parties about it-- And regardless to how noteworthy the "Pelican" might be-- obviously more than one person wants it.

Granted, he could've said "My LS is on the way to kill it.." and it could've ended up in a race between which LS would've made it there first. It could've been killed by the party and the Dragoon lotted on it and we had a flame because the "dragoon got the shield" (even if the Dragoon had another job that could make use of it)... or the party could've wiped and the dragoon was here making a flame about why he died due to the party wanting to kill an NM that they couldn't handle and had to HP and ruined his day 'cus the party ended up disbanding shortly after or something. Hypothetical of course.

I was going to leave this thread be and just resolve it in game with the members of the party, but I think some people are missing one key point here.

Wak didn't want the shield. This was not something he did for his own gain. He knew that a CK member had been interested in the item and thus mentioned it before his party even spoke about it. I don't even think he thought about it beforehand- his immediate reaction was to better CK. Maybe not the best choice, but his intentions were not ill-willed.

And again, had the party that was there wanted to try without Wak's assistance, he and the rest of CK would have backed down without giving it a second thought. We're the same way in all game arenas, from gustaberg to sky (yes, Ulli included). I don't believe in using force to pressure other shells unless we had been wronged in a similar way beforehand by the same group. Respecting a first claim to a camp (if its legit) was a huge part of why I enjoyed Everquest as much as I did. Even if its only a few shells playing this respectable game (i could name a few right now), its better than clashing with everyone, and end game becomes a lot less stressful for those folks.

I still haven't heard anything in game from the other 5 members of Wak's party, but CK is still more than willing to do something for them to make it up to them.

Also, any praise directed at me in this thread should be equally extended to the folks on Quetz who are actually willing to listen to reason and talk issues out rather than fighting over it. Makes the server a whole lot better if you can respect each other enough to negotiate first doncha think?

Blaze, Blazn...its the same thing right XD (just kidding)

Aww Anaeran I jsut lost all of my respect for you.. that was low.. real low.. might as well shoot my balls with a paintball gun from 2-feet away. (:_;)
I didn't think that you would ever stoop that low....

Oh well, I forgive.. here's all of you're respect back!
