Spoiler:
Today marked the end of three years' worth of effort by a bunch of really awesome people. Get ready for a long post, because there are a *lot* of people who deserve thanks and credit.
First and foremost: to the men and women of lolDynamis. I couldn't have finished Aegis without your help and support. We've had a lot of ups and downs lately, the decision to change from being just an AF2 shell to being a relic upgrading shell didn't come easily, especially when the economy threw curveballs at us. First came the massive changes to prices when the gilsellers got booted en masse. Then came the change in hourglass prices that caused another disruption in how we were used to funding the shell. We've weathered it all, and I can't express how grateful I am that you never gave up on me.
Furthermore, I've deployed twice for a total of seven months and been sent on temporary duty away from home countless times while I've run with the lolD. I know the decision to continue upgrading me while away was a difficult one, and I'm extremely grateful that you all kept me on, when my duties took me elsewhere.
We've been through a lot, and I only hope that this is the start of bigger and better things as we look forward to finishing Kohra's scythe and beyond.
Secondly, I'd like to thank all the people who individually supported me through either donations, help levelling crafts, killing Amaltheia, or just simply words of encouragement. Three years is a *long* time, and I can't convey how much you helped me reach this goal.
EDIT: I had a giant list of names here... there's no way I can put everyone down. Most everyone on my friend list helped out in some way, and my friend list is nearly full... that's a LOT of names. You guys know who you are, and I can never thank you enough.
EDIT2: Alright, instead of trying to list a couple hundred names, I'm going to list shells, that way at least everyone's mentioned in some way:
RoyalKnights... my first shell, most of whom are retired. You guys brought me into the game, and kept me from making *too* many newbie mistakes. Wish you guys could be here.
WickedWayz... I don't think I was ever a full time member, but I just knew way too many of you guys from my other shells to not take a pearl. Thanks for showing up to all my random pickup events like the massive Ohat/Rostrum/Kurrea run.
The Nightblades... Whether it was keeping me company during very long and very numerous Mount Z mining runs or keeping me motivated with Alby's successes with the relic horn, you guys helped me a lot over the past couple years. Won't be long now until we see a Good Times about the shiny horn.
Rawr... my first endgame shell and the ones who taught me how to be an endgame PLD. Sky formed the basis of my training and even though it's been a long time, I still think I could tank Kirin in my sleep after the countless times we fought him. Though we never dived fully into Sea, the time we spent there was fun and exciting. One of the reasons I started Aegis was so I could be there if you ever got to the point of fighting Love or AV.
lolDynamis... for obvious reasons already stated.
BK... my first introduction into the 'new' endgame, and one of the most fun shells I've ever been in. It may have been a challenge sometimes, but it was a blast.
WallofAegis... no, it wasn't always a Salvage shell. Long before Salvage was even released, I had to fight Amalthiea to upgrade the stage 2 Aegis. Since it involved multiple alliances, /party chat wasn't sufficient. So, the massive gathering of random people from my friend list were given a pearl from a brand new linkshell, one that would eventually serve as my social when RK went away and later as an Assault and Salvage shell when Greg and I decided to try our hand at what was then a brand new endgame activity.
I would however, like to single a few people out:
First, Amerie was generous enough to offer to lend me the final 30 M. Silver pieces without me even asking. If that wasn't enough, when we came up 94 short of 10,000 after our Dynamis-San d'Oria run tonight, she tossed in one more without thinking twice. Thank you.
Secondly, behind every good tank, there is an even better DD or WHM. In my case, Gregedor was both these things, and he's always been back there... either keeping me from dying or dishing out serious pain to whatever's beating on me (usually resulting in him dying a fast death, or /BEERCANning as we call it). My roommate back in college, El Gregedore and I have been stationed all over the place since we graduated, but through FFXI, we've managed to keep on having fun and kicking butt. Thanks for being there, man. Hopefully you'll be getting your Great Katana soon.
Finally, last but not least, I need to thank someone most of you don't know. A little Taru named Taritzu. Without this little guy, I would have never even started down the road towards Aegis. I got to know him a loooong time ago while farming fire crystals for my mining efforts. Admired at my dedication to one job (as opposed to many), he encouraged me to perfect it. When I told him that there was no way I could possibly make enough to even consider upgrading a relic, he did something that most FF players would never dream of... he gave me his money making strategies.
Unfortunately, the same techniques that made him over a hundred million in the course of a year yielded far less after the gil crash when all the gilsellers got banned. I was really depressed when this happened, because I had sunk millions into levelling goldsmithing and developing a large gardening capacity among my mules. But, any time I hit a snag, Taritzu was there, ever-cheerful and encouraging and never once losing faith in me. I honestly don't understand how he kept being so positive, but I'm grateful, because without him, I wouldn't be here today. I'm sorry you couldn't be there when I got my Aegis, Tari, but I'll be sure to show it to you the first chance I get.
That's all I got for now, expect more pictures and stories as time goes on. Right now, it's been a long day, and I'm beat.
All I can say... is thank you.
