War/mnk

Easily? Only whm have it easy. Rest struggle anyhow. Will you struggle more than War/Nin? Probably. Will you survive? Sure.

I disagree.. I'd never personally want a War/Mnk past 20.. they aren't really useful. Then again, I never use war's in PT's.. they are nice but.. eh. ^^;

Let me narrow it down for you...

WAR/NIN are useless as tanks 25-32 because mandies chop you up, and WAR/MNK is on par with WAR/NIN dmg with Great Axe.

WAR/THF 30-40 is a better dmg dealer than WAR/NIN, /NIN has no additional TP gain over /THF. The only thing you get is Shadows, which I don't see why you would need them if WAR/MNK is THE preferred tank sub pre 40.

Its hilarious how many people jumped on the WAR/NIN bandwagon when you really shouldn't use /nin at those low lvls.

/mnk actually brings something to the party, as does /thf. /nin you get ichi, but you're barely be able to get it up during the fights and dual wield won't offer a single benefit at that level. Going /drg or /drk would also work until 37.

yes war/mnk is just fine for that lvl

i got lazy and didn't lvl monk on my melee character (yet) so i sub thf unless i'm tanking then i got /nin just because i at least get to save face on a few shadows.

war/mnk is in my opinion the best tank in the game pre 40ish.

Nothing is close to GAX at those levels. A thief could SATA viper bite the war/nin, and I'd be the one with hate within 10 seconds in a tank vs off, no exaggeration there.

War/mnk is also a fantastic hate holder at those levels. Spamming boost is worth something low-early mid game. Counter with a GAX really hurts, and dodge+large hp pool are just gravy.

War/mnk...The tank that can be the top DD in the party =)

It's a damn good combo. Now go make it kick ass!

Exactly, on my old character I tanked up to lvl 47 in a static and then realized we needed a PLD or NIN, but up until 40 or so I did great and I was 2nd only to BLM on the parser.

Warrior is a class in FFXI that can be best at w/e u want it to be depending on your gear and subjob.War/mnk can actually be better than a war/nin because war/nin is a good tank n all that dodges stuff but war/nin have a very hard time holding aggro. Now war/mnk on the other hand at 37 can wear the same gear pld can and also have more dmg than a pld with boost (which is tons of aggro). So now at 75 a war/mnk with koeing n provoke/boost n all that is not so bad at tanking n ends up with more vit/defense than a pld if u give the best gear for the roll hes trying to play.I heard lots of good stuff about war/nin in koeing tanking Gods also but thats hard to pull off unless u let warrior land 7 8 provokes before rest of the party engages (Yes JPs usually use that technique)

War/nins have no problems holding hate.

War/nins are still good tanks for that level, especially if you have two of them. All you get with mnk is counter and boost. If your not a complete retard at tanking, you can easily avoid your enemy's first 6 attacks as a war/nin at that level.

You get more VIT, you do more dmg with great axe than with 2 axes most of the time at those lvls. War/mnk is the better tank and better dmg dealer at those lvls.

/ninja for tanking is retarded until Utsusemi: Ni. And on the damage aspect of the job, it's even more retarded until Warrior hits 50, when you get your delay cut on your "lolicanuse2axes" trait.

Subbing Dragoon will net you more TP, since you'll get jump at level 20.

Yep, but noones forcing you to use two axes. I took my war/nin to 33 using nothing but a great axe.

All you get? Actually that all makes the big difference there. Utsusemi: Ichi's recast time makes it useless. Yeah, sure you get to avoid the first six 6 hits, what about afterwards? You're not going to be taking damage as well as a War/Mnk will. Don't even mention evasion, because mob levels are high enough to often land a hit on you. Boost is what makes the War/Mnk hold hate, as Provoke draws hate. A War/Nin is better put to use as the first voke for a SATA setup using those shadows. And counter from a Great Axe does hurt...

Counter's great, but then again how often does it activate? Also how often will a war/mnk be the main tank in a pt anyways?

The first 6 hits are alot and if you have another war/nin in your party you could potentially avoid 15 hits through combined use of shadows.

So instead of Boost, Counter, Jump, Sneak Attack, or any of the other myriad of useful things you could've had, you had U:Ichi? Okay, makes plenty of sense.

Seems like people just want to sub ninja because it's the thought-free publically accepted sub from level 1-75. It doesn't matter if it's the best sub. It doesn't even have to help. Heck, it can totally suck. It's /ninja, so it's cool. Ninja sub is a case of "cookie-cutter" being taken too far and making players perform *worse* than if they thought "outside the box". Who'd have ever imagined cookie-cutter being worse than original thought in FFXI? Not me.
