Warhammer Online

Same here. This game is pretty much set to dominate the MMO market now. Maybe WoW will finally have some competition worthy of calling itself a "WoW Killer" sorta like how CoD4 > Halo.

I wonder when they will start sending out the beta though. I know its gonna be around this month, but will we get an e-mail from them to let us know the beta disc is coming?

Beta codes have been given out to everyone who's going to get them for this round I believe. I got into the AOC crap awhile back but not WAR :(

If you preorder the super-deluxe-coloring-book-edition you can get a code, but it's 80 dollars and really not worth it imo. People are also selling codes on ebay because they are really hard to get. I'm still looking for a way in without dropping the extra 30 bucks on the SE edition. We'll see what happens.

I pre-ordered it from play.com and I'm still waiting. I guess I can e-mail them a little later to ask.

They should be sending you the beta code if there were any still available. Some stores have already given out all their codes so even if you preorder the special edition, you're not guaranteed a code.

Good luck :\

O_o

I bloody hope I am in the beta I pre-ordered over a month ago.

I'd contact them and ask what's up then. You shoulda received a code with your special edition preorder. If I were you, if they don't provide a code I'd get my money back and try another store. Ask first to be sure codes are still available.

Lanien said he might be able to get codes as well, which leads me to believe at least some stores out there still have them.

Spoke with a play.com guy earlier, Beta keys are to be sent out via e-mail at the end of this month.

Awesome! Keep me posted and let me know how it looks.

I'm all set for the open beta whenever that hits, thanks to Lanien and his uber hookups. In the meantime, AoC actually has me interested too :X

I purchased a CE preorder last week but haven't received a code yet either. Hopefully Gamestop will be e-mailing them out as well. I need to remember to contact their customer support during business hours. =/

4 phone calls and 4 assurances that I would be getting my beta code via e-mail within 48 hours....still no beta code...

I haven't got mine yet either, however EA Mythic haven't said if the beta is up yet, so technically they might mean right at the last day of the month or the very beginning of this month.

I'm really itching to play the beta but all we have to do right now is unfortunately be a little more patient =/

The game's been put back time and time again, wouldn't surprise me if the Beta was put back.

As long as they make it great I won't mind how far they push it back as long as it isn't 2000-never.

According to the Gamestop website, their beta codes are for the closed beta, which has been up and running for some time now. A friend of a friend is actually in it, but unfortunately said he was really disappointed with the game. However, I always prefer to find out for myself so I take that opinion with a grain of salt. The sad thing is, according to the Gamestop customer service reps I've spoken with on the phone, I was supposed to have been given a card with my code at the store. The people at the store had no clue what I was talking about when I purchased the preorder and when I called them back AFTER talking to their customer service department.

On a side note, The last High Elf class is White Lion.

At long last, Mythic has finally confirmed the last of the High Elf careers for Warhammer Online. After months of speculation and lots of hints, they've finally confirmed that the White Lion class will round out WAR's robust list of player careers. The White Lion will be fulfilling the melee DPS niche on the side of order and will focus on the dynamics between the hardy White Lion and his war lion pet.

Unlike his Destruction counterpart the Squig Herder whose Squigs are relatively expendable balls of sentient fungus, the White Lion's bond with his pet starts at level one, and there will be a good degree of customization available so that each player's pet will be relatively unique. War lions will grow and change as their master grows in power, and will even be capable of fighting in a feral capacity if you fell his master in battle first.

We're excited to see the last of WAR's careers fall into place. Here's hoping we're only a few steps away from the open beta!

Now the Open Beta should begin soon no doubt.

I'm now also having a hard time deciding...

Decapitating arms that mutate or Elves with pet lions that grow in size... hmmm

We spent the better part of yesterday under the auspices of EA Mythic, talking with them about the many and sundry parts that make up the Warhammer whole. You're going to see plenty of content about the game going up today and into next week, but right away we wanted to respond to you - the reader. Yesterday as a part of our ongoing "The Daily Grind" dialogue, we asked what you wanted to hear from the developers and designers. You responded, and many thanks to those of you that did. We'll make sure to throw out opportunities like this again in the future - you deserve a chance to get your questions heard.

We didn't have the chance to ask every question, but we've got a much better understanding of the game and its context now than on Wednesday. We'll run down the questions asked by our participating readers, and hopefully offer up a general view of the title. Read on for those notes, and check back later today for more from EA Mythic and Warhammer Online.

****************************

Ghen asked: "How is Warhammer RvR different than Dark Age of Camelot's RvR? Not that its bad to be the same, it was a good system ... It's just that I've already played it."

From what we've seen, the biggest difference is that RvR is the central component to the game. In Dark Age of Camelot you could play through the entire game and never see the RvR component if you chose not to. That's just not going to happen in Warhammer. You can choose not to participate if you don't want to, but that's going to be an active choice made by the player. "War is everywhere", as they say, and within the first few levels you can already be going up against the opposing side.

The biggest mechanical difference is probably the scenarios, which are 100% playable right out of the gate. Part of our demo today involved a Dark Elf Shadow Warrior avatar jumping into the Khaine's Embrace event. At level 1, he was a bit weak in the knees, but since he was automatically associated with an instance suited to his level, it wasn't that big a deal. Piloted by Adam Gershowitz, the game's careers producer, he jumped two ranks (levels) and two level of renown (pvp ranks) in just about 45 minutes ... all from playing RvR in the scenario.

Santo asked: "Will closed beta be expanded as the summer moves on? When is open beta expected to start?"

They've been expanding closed Beta for some time now, and the expectation is that as they need more warm bodies, more warm bodies will be sought out. The word from the WAR folk about open Beta is that they will never have a completely open Beta; for them Beta testing is about just that - testing. It's not a PR exercise. They didn't have details about when the last phase of Beta will be, but (just from what we heard today) it's probably going to be more than a month at minimum.

Vort asked: "Will the interface be customizable?"

We didn't have the chance to ask, so we'll make sure to do that today. Given what we saw of the interface, though, it might be hard to have something as cusomtizable as World of Warcraft's. They offer a number of really unique visual idenifiers to help you do your job in your class. The UI is really, really slick - and elements of it are specifically tailored to the class that you're playing.

"How will they keep end game RvR / PvP interesting 6 months after release?"

We're going to participate in a lot of RvR today, so we'll be sure to ask this question directly then. That said, the analogy they like to throw around is that of a football league; players who participate in the max-level RvR should have an ongoing experience to enjoy. The give and take of the Order vs. Chaos battle is meant to be experienced like a sporting event. Ongoing battles on a larger scale.

Anon asked: "The cookie cutter answer as to the current state of development is "Iterate and Polish". I think we can all agree that's a pretty empty quote. I'd love to hear a more detailed example of what they are actually polishing. Are the character skins done? Are the world maps done? Is there any aspect of the game they feel is completely in the box?"

Empire/Chaos has been just beaten into the ground, and in the latest round of testing (which started Thursday) those areas aren't even available. They'll be made available again in roughly four weeks, when (presumably) all three racial pairings will be tested simultaneously. For the moment, the pairings between Greenskins/Stunties and High Elves/Dark Elves are available, and players are being asked to start at first level to further iterate on that content. From what we've seen character art is probably almost done. World maps in the starting areas are very robust, and appear finished. From what we've seen, many game elements are "done", they're just being polished to a mirror finish. Some are still under wraps: the Choppas and Blackguard classes are getting tuned, as are the Tome of Knowledge unlocks for items and crafting. Please note this is all just what we observed: none of this is word directly from the developers.

Yulian Kuncheff asked: "How will the Magus mirror the Engineer? Will the Magus have Horrors that act like turrets?"

We got an extensive look at how the Dwarven Engineer plays, and you can expect that writeup sometime early next week. We're told that the Magus is indeed the Engineer's mirror, and will be summoning demons in much the same way the Engineer summons turrets. Instead of immovable constructs, though, the Magus' minions will be restricted to movement within a tight summoning circle. At their core, both classes are going for the same type of gameplay: ranged damage with a 'hold and defend' element.

goatguy400 asked: "Will there be mounts?"

There will definitely be mounts, and the latest Warhammer newsletter had some brand new screenshots of the Dark Elf (lizards) and Dwarven (gyrocopter) mounts.

muub said: "How much did they work on the PVE aspect of the game? are there just a couple of end game dungeons to appease the crowd or is it more in depth? do they have any endgame raid dungeons?"

The PVE element of the game overall is very strong; if you consider the Tome of Knowledge as a core component of that experience, Warhammer probably has one of the strongest PVE elements of any MMO to date. We didn't get a chance to talk about endgame PVE experiences, but we'll definitely bring it up today. We do know, though, that they are planning for something like this. At the very least, there are a number of max-level public quests. Public Quests are essentially raids without the need for massive amounts of planning and coordination, and by the endgame players will be fitting into them very naturally.

We hope we've addressed some of the issues you were curious about. Look for more on Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning throughout the day, here on Massively.com

Awesome =)

I've not seen where the codes that come with the preorder will be for the Closed Beta, even looking on the WAR website I diddnt see anything regarding that.

What is Open Beta?: Unlike many traditional "Open Betas" WAR will only be available to a limited number of players (Including Collectors Edition Pre-Orders). Open simply means that the NDA will be lifted allowing testers to freely share their experience with the public.

Even in my pre-order I picked up my card said it was for the Open Beta when ever they get around to that.. I can't wait to play a goblin ;_;

You're right, it does say Open Beta on the website. I think in my excitement I wishfully thought I read Closed Beta. :( Kinda explains why I never received my e-mail. Ironically enough though, even the customer service people at Gamestop didn't even catch the gaffe either. I also never received a card at the store, which it seems I at least should have.

How did you do your pre-order? I stopped screwing around with Gamestop damn near all the information I've gotten from them is wrong not to mention the last 6 times I've ordered something through them they've cocked it all up.

The per-order I got was from Best Buy, they had a sealed display-ish box on the shelf, looked just like I was buying the game but it explained what came with the pre-order and secured my collector edition when they get supplies in. The open beta code was inside of the sealed box (which I cant find a picture of anywhere >.<)
