The world will end in 2012 — or so say thousands in the Netherlands preparing for the apocalypse in four years, the Dutch-language newspaper de Volkskrant reported Tuesday.

The paper spoke to those who believe the 2012 date signals the impending end of civilization and are stocking up on emergency supplies, equipment and life rafts in case of flooding, United Press International reported.

While theories vary as to why 2012, in particular, is believed by some to represent the world's end, most say it is the end of the Mayan calendar. Some are optimistic about the apocalypse, saying they no longer want to live in the modern world.

"You know, maybe it's really not that bad that the Netherlands will be destroyed," Petra Faile told de Volkskrant. "I don't like it here anymore. Take immigration, for example. They keep letting people in. And then we have to build more houses, which makes the Netherlands even heavier. The country will sink even lower, which will make the flooding worse."

So, we have Fox news of all media, covering some idiot woman with very poor logic. Of coarse, that is Fox's way of shaping the world. Even adults are afraid to be taken for idiots, and Fox news takes advantage of this by feeding the world ignorant rubbish.

I don't mind talking about this stuff, but without a proper OP, I'd reckon this thread's only purpose is an attempt to provoke and ridicule those who acknowledge what the ancient civilizations are telling us.

I think if they get the right color raft, it might work. I mean, the normal yellow ones just scream end of the world. If you get a nice blue or maybe a dark green, I think then they will be safe.
 
you know, did anyone think that maybe the mayans calender ends at 2012 because they didnt believe the earth would last that long/they would last that long/THE GOT BORED? All they were making was a fucking CALENDER. Think about it. NOWHERE do the mayans say the world will end in 2012. So what if the calender ends, why do people expect an ancient civilization to make a CALENDER to last MILLENIA after they pass on. wth

Ancient Chinese calendars end on the same day, that's why people believe it.

Ancient Egyptian and a few others end on the same day too, and what they have to say about it is very simlar, so i wouldn't suggest that is the reason. Mayan calendar is just the most popular of the bunch these days.

These are all civilizations from different times, and knew nothing of one another, yet they knew of the bodies in our solar system before we did. They have detailed information even involving Neptune's colour carved on tablets, meanwhile we were finally able to confirm Neptune's colour in the late 80's when Voyager was on it's way there, and we are forced to concur with our ancient past. In 2001 they find another body and call it Eris, the 11th planet in our solar system. This is really old news, we're just learning it as we are now, so we concur again.

The Calendar's of the ancient civilizations mapped astronomical events. What is said to happen in 2012 is an astronomical event which includes the earth.

I'm sorry Anttaru, but nothing about my OP was "improper." This was not a thread to (yet again) debate with you on your religious/scientific/apocolyptic beliefs.

You even admitted that the woman in the article is not playing with a full deck. Saying that immigration is making the land sink and will eventually cause massive floods is like saying that a rogue planet will come to earth a drop off aliens who will enslave the human race... oh wait! (Kidding)

If you felt that this was a way to provoke you, then I think you took it a bit too personally. Maybe you should learn to laugh at yourself a bit more? I merely wished to point out the humor in the article. It isn't a lol@Anttaru thread and I do apologize if you took it that way.
 
Not taking sides, because I obviously believe the world will not end on 2012. But the title to the thread is clearly "Was Anttaru Right?" Sounds like a pot-shot to me, albeit a bit subtle

I'm a believer in the magnetic poles flipping, but I don't think that means the end of the world. It means the end of a lot of electronic devices, yes, but the world won't end because of that. Just means a lot of shit will have to be re-made.

It was a reference to his 2012 THREAD. The one he created. Yes, that one. The thread where he clearly makes this case for what the article is talking about. I already said what I have to say to Anttaru on the matter. Had I wanted to call him out (or whatever you are thinking) on this matter, I'd have done so in his original thread.

Or you wouldve made a new thread so more people would see it... And would clearly see his name in the title of the thread. I mean, whats wrong with leaving his name out of it, if its only in reference of 2012?
 
How about we stop making a big deal out of nothing and stay on topic for one time in this forum's life?
