Girlfriend got me tickets to see this last night at midnight. Well, i personally didnt read the Graphic Novel so im not sure how true to the story the movie was, but overall i thought it was just OK.

For starters, 3 hours was way too long, and i thought the movie had a very slow start. I thought it couldve cut out some unnecessary parts, overall i thought it was alright, the action scenes were pretty cool, and different.

Lol, my theatre couldnt keep quiet everytime Dr. Manhattan would walk around with his schlong out.

I did not read the novel. I had no idea what the movie was about other then a blue guy.

I ended up enjoying this movie alot. The length of this movie was no issue at all. I was involved and enjoyed the story the entire 2 hours 40 minutes.

This was the best super hero esque movie i have ever gone to see. It was very mature and a complete relief from the usual kiddie garbage these hero movies are. I am going to get the novel now hehe.

Keep in mind this is the short version. There's at least an hour of material to be restored in the multiple DVD releases. There'll be a director's cut DVD and then an even longer version with the comic book pirate story blended back in.

I read the comic but I haven't seen it. I know the ending changed but for almost 2 1/2 hours they stick to the comic truthfully.

You probably thought it was just OK because some of the stuff in the movie isn't explained because in the Comic, they had a ton of mini stories on the side that explained and went into detail backgrounds...hell one of them was a story within itself. Most of that was cut from the movie...and it's still almost 3 hours. The director's cut will be the real treat for fans I hear.

Can someone who's read the graphic novel and seen the movie tell me if the endings are the same? Specifically:

Huge spoilers, you've been warned.

Spoiler:
Does Rorschach still die? Is it the same death? Does Veidt get of scott free as in the novel?

Edit:

So how did the movie end?

So how was it different?

Spoiler:
Yes, he still dies the same way.

In the novel Ozymandias replicates a squid alien thing and launches it into New York City, causing mass destruction; making it seem like the world the under attack by aliens instead of Dr. Manhattan. The US and USSR still join together and theres still nothing that they would do about it.

Spoiler:
Wait, so Veidt somehow makes it seem as if Dr. Manhattan is attacking Earth? Yeah... this is going to be a netflix rental.

I heard Malin Ackerman gets naked in it. If this is true, my $8.50 will be well spent, even if the rest of the movie is a huge pile of poo.

I'm just glad Zack Synder tried to keep it somewhat close to the original graphic novel, some of the earlier scripts I read were terrible. With all the Superhero movies getting so much hype it was a gurantee Watchmen would be picked up eventually.

The Director's Cut DVD will be the true Watchmen movie, some missing scenes really have an emotional impact that only readers would know, like the fate of one particular character.

Spoiler:
Hollis's death at the hands of the Top Knot Gang will be in the DVD

The movie was great but, I read the novel a couple times. If you didn't read do yourself a favor and read it before you see it. Its well worth it.

I was generally pretty pleased with how the movie turned out. Except for the ending, but I can see why they changed it, and it wasn't a terribly big change plot wise, IMO.

Things I Didn't Like:
Spoiler:

The Manhattan/picture scene. I felt more like the Doc was more remembering the events, rather than living out everything at once. Like he saw everything the way the rest of us do, and that he's really a super powered human, instead of something else entirely. Which was strange comparing it to the rest of the movie, which is trying to make him as non-human as possible.

Hollis' death. I completely forgot about that until I read the post.

Manhattan's symbol. They spent zero time explaining why it's a hydrogen atom, why he has a symbol, and why it's different from what they wanted him to have.

The second Nite Owl's apparent geekery. I mean, I get it, they wanted to play it up for humour. But this guy fought crime. He took down syndicates and such. He's not some high school kid on prom night.

But that's pretty minor in the big scheme of things. I thought it was a pretty good movie.

Watch it, still has a good ending and accomplishes the exact same thing.

That certainly was an upside to it. It was a refreshing film flying in the face of taboo talk. I liked it more than I thought I would.

Now that I've seen it, I can say I'm very pleased. They really managed to pull it off. I'm looking forward to the full version to complete the picture, though. It really needs the street-level folks like the news vendor or the cabbie to give that little human reminder of what they're all fighting for and the sense of impending doom.

Is the very end the same?

Spoiler:
With the journalist reaching towards Rorschach's journal, implying everything would be revealed.

Is the very end the same?

Yes, that is still there.

Saw it. Loved it. Can't wait for the full-length director's cut. The only moment I rolled my eyes was when the Leonard Cohen song came on, since it was a bit much. Credit to them for using his version at least, instead of someone else's.

The fans of the book in the crowd seemed pleased as the film let out (and during...you could tell when favorite scenes came to pass). A lot of people who went in cold walked out confused and, in some cases, apologizing to dates. So it's not a film for the uninitiated or people looking for your typical comic treatment.

Yeah, I read the comic again today, having seen the movie Friday night, and was again surprised at just how faithful a lot of the movie was to the comics.
The guys we went with who didn't read it were still pretty entertained by the movie, but they were guys. I imagine it'd be different for girls.

Oh I think there's enough there for someone to follow along with what's happening, but it's not a simple narrative...in the film or in the books. There's a lot of setup, a lot of backstory and a lot of nuance. It's not as easy as going from Point A to Point B to Point C. I think that's where it loses people.

As for the dates...I'm sure the Silk Spectre/Comedian scene made them squirm, even in its abbreviated state.
