What anime are you watching/reading?

I've watched those in English. The enjoyment I get from them is only the enjoyment that Gaara is fightin'. I really like watchin' Gaara. Rock Lee is as even more annoyin' than Gei and personally, I'd have offed him if I was the writers.

The biggest problem with Naruto(both parts,) is that Kishimoto is seemingly terrified of directly killing characters(good or evil) without there being some emotional significance behind it.

Haku and Zabuza - Ninjas shouldn't be emotionless weapons, Naruto forges a new way.
Sarutobi - Leaf village pulls together to be strong despite the void left from his death.
Spoiler:
Sasori - Aww, he died in the position he used to have his puppets hug him, so sad.
Asuma - Shikamarus ascent in to God-hood. Enacting a well coordinated and lead revenge plot, and becoming the first (and currently only) person to take on and defeat an unweakened (not to mention the biggest god moder) Akatsuki member solo without the use of some overpowered gimmick

Even if a character is killed "on screen" for the sake of being killed, most of the time we never actually really see it, or there is some catch 22. Tayuya gets crushed by logs, we just see her arm I think sticking out. Sakon and Ukon get put inside of Kankuro's puppet, then skewered. Kimmimaro dies from his illness during his battle with Gaara. The guy in the 3rd movie is turned to stone before he gets obliterated by the rasengan.
Spoiler:
Hidan is effectively buried alive.
Deidara blows himself up, but we don't see his body ripping apart at the seams in any way- despite seeing it occur when Gaara and Kakashi dispatch his arms earlier in the series, and his clone doing it a little later.

That's the problem right there. I don't know any anime that hasn't been ruined due to it being dubbed. Gai is kind of annoying at times but not so annoying that it would ruin the entire series, for me at least.

I've also watched plenty of Japanese Naruto as well, just not those episodes. Believe you me, I've given the show it's chance more than I should have and the bottom line is I flat out don't like it.

Back on topic:

I'm watchin' the D.Grey-Man series. It's really cool. On par with Bleach (also has a lot of the same voice actors) and it plays out about the same, especially with the burst of comedy. Seems to have a lot more action as well.

Ok I just watched the first 140 episodes of Bleach, most of Shura no Toki (sp?) and am now starting Naruto. I liked Shura no Toki beccause I read the book Musashi about 5 times throughout my life and the book Shogun once. Seeing those people in a cartoon like this was really rad. After Naruto I will try to find episodes 140-present on Bleach. After that where should I go?

I'd suggest Naruto Shippuuden for sure, especially if you like the original Naruto. I hate Naruto with a passion but Shippuuden is mad good. Also, as I mentioned above, D.Gray-Man, while totally different in nature, has the same aura as Bleach. Bleach is my second favorite and D.Gray, as I catch up, is runnin' right beside it.

lately I've been on this huge manga reading kick, and me being female, I tend to lean towards the shoujo stuff. I'm still following Nana, also finished up Gokinjo Monogatari. Both of those are by Ai Yazawa, I <3 how she gives so much depth to her characters, plus her style is teh sex. Tenshi Nanka Ja Nai is also by Ai Yazawa, its one of her earlier manga, also really good high school drama type.

Other stuff I've been reading, I checked out Kubo's first manga Zombie Powder (he is the creator of Bleach). Its definitely more of a shounen/fighting style manga, pretty good so far.

But the one I really fell in love with to the point of downloading a Taiwanese live action drama subtitled in english, was Hana Kimi. It was a very long manga, took me 2 days to read the whole thing via scanlation. And yes that was basically non-stop reading. Anyway its about this Japanese-American girl, who lives in Berkley, CA. She began to idolize a Japanese high school student who was famous for his record in the high jump track and field event. Mizuki (the girl) gets this brilliant idea to transfer to the school that her idol attends. The only problem is, that he attends a boys only high school. So Mizuki disguises herself as a boy and attends his school.

Its a really funny manga and very well drawn. If anyone is interested in Shoujo manga, its kind of a harem type story, but in reverse. Instead of having a bunch of girls surrounding one guy, its a bunch of guys surrounding a girl disguised as a boy! :p

I need to go online to get the rest of the bleach episodes. I will try D.Gray-Man when I get back home from Iraq. As far as Shppuuden goes, I am enjoyign regular Naruto to an extent but it is nowhere in caliber what Bleach was. When I finish the original Naruto I will pick up Shippuuden as well. Ive heard the same argument from a RL contact as far as that comparrison goes.

D.Gray Man looks good i'll have to check it out later.

Last night i just finished up Darker than Black. Bitchin anime. Pretty good ending, I want to see the DVD ova that comes out on the 26th though. Both openings were sweet and the endings weren't bad. Cool concept too.

Shippuuden doesn't even par with Bleach but it's good in its own sense. It starts out really slow but when it starts to pick up it's straight bitchin'. If you want to find something more up to par with Bleach, D.Gray-Man is definitely your best bet (Warning though, they're nothin' alike) but Shippuuden should be on everyones watch list whether they like Naruto or not. If you need help findin' some Bleach episodes let me know, I didn't have to search YouTube, etc., to find any Bleach at all.

I started watchin' Darker Than Black a few weeks ago and I've yet to get past episode 6. It's pretty good but it's also borin', if that makes sense. I'll eventually finish it but for some reason it's like Gilgamesh, I watch one or two episodes and then I hit a wall.

Raidr, Shado's arm ain't got shit on Allen Walkers eh? (get to EP.5-6 before you answer)

Well every two episodes is like a story arc, kind of. So when I watched it I'd watch 2 sets or 4 episodes a night. But once i start an anime I watch it through even if it sucks for the most part. I don't remember every feeling bored though.

Also Yin is tight, that is all.

D. Grayman is awesome. I just watched episode 75 last night :D its really getting interesting teehee I love Allen's Innocence.

Darker than Black is good as well. I ran into a problem with my old PC where I couldn't play anything encoded h.264 so I couldn't watch darker than black any more. :( I haven't tried it on my new PC, I have h.264 codecs on it though.

CCCP ftw. MPC Player plays everything, usually. Otherwise VLC is a good back up to play it if MPC cant. I've never run into MPC not playing something, but i have had issues with audio that didn't show up on VLC (happened with the second half of GitS:SAC2 for some reason). Or actually, I'd probably go with the K-Lite Codec pac now, over CCCP, but both are good.

As far as what I'm watching, i put on appleseed lastnight, but couldn't keep my eyes open i was so tired (was around 2am and i had class at 7) so i put it off and ill watch it tonight. Opening was bad ass though and i like the art style. I have ex machina too so i'll probably watch that tomorrow night.

by MPC I assume you mean Media Player Classic? If that is what you mean, that is the only program I use. Honestly I think the problem I had previously was with codecs and old PC components.

yeah, if you get the one bundled with K-Lite Codec pack, it has yet to not play something for me. I'd still recommend VLC as well though because it also plays a grip of file types, and the screenshot feature is bitchin (my MPC screen caps dont work for some reason).

I forget which one it was that I grabbed, but it works, I tested it out today with the Nana 2 live action movie :D

As i posted in the movies thread i just finished up the two appleseed movies. Like the art and overall action of ex machina a little more but both were awesome. If you're looking for a good action movie check em out. Think i might start up TTGL tomorrow night, not sure yet.

I'm Just reading my Dragon Quest manga this morning so I've been reading that.

I seriously need to learn kanji now! lmao

I wish I had taken japanese classes in the past. After watching 100% of the DB, DBZ and DBGT, Most of the Naruto, most of the Bleach, most of the Shura no Toki, and a bunch of Princess Mononoke, all in Japanese with subtitles it would have been the ideal language tools for listening practice.

As it stands now I only know beginner phrases and such. GRRR.
