What Anime/Manga are you Reading/Watching? Part the Second!

Chapter 577. Enjoy. :D

Well there were a few anime last season (or a season ago) that I lost track of. Like.. can't find them on anime sites anymore. I don't know what happened to God Eater, did that one finish? I watched a handful of episodes and then couldn't find it anymore and just continued watching other anime.

Also Concrete Revolution, I don't know what happened to that one either. Stopped watching about the same time as God Eater because they both were pulled off the site I was using to watch anime.

This current season, I'm not sure. So far what little I have watched hasn't really struck me as stuff that I will really stick with, and then there are anime which I am just not interested in checking out. Hopefully there are some other interesting ones, but I've kinda been slacking on my anime watching. Been playing FFXI and even picked up DCUO again. #timewasters

Well I may have to change my tune on this season's line up a little. Though I'm still in the process of catching up on ongoing anime episodes as well as the new stuff that's just recently came out I am starting to make some progress and see a few shows this season that either look promising or stuff I'll just probably continue to check out.

Stuff that I'm still watching that is ongoing:

Dragon Ball Super
World Trigger
Garo: Guren no Tsuki
Utawaremono: Itsuwari no Kamen
Lupin III
Heavy Object

All of those anime have been really great, with exception to the new Garo. I keep watching it hoping that it get's better, and it has... slightly, but even so it doesn't hold a candle to the original first Garo anime. Which is a shame because that was a pretty decent show.

Stuff I watched today and actually liked or liked enough to keep watching so far:

Koukaku no Pandora - Seems like a bit of a sci-fi action/comedy with a twinge of a yuri element. I think this one might actually have a deeper story, because there's hints that that might be the case. The first episode while full of a few action scenes was fairly light-hearted and comical. Animation isn't amazing but it's not terrible and is pleasing. I'll give it a go.

Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu - I just kinda decided to check this out based on a thumbnail and curiosity. It's... different, but not bad. The first episode lasted roughly about 45 minutes instead of the standard 24-27. The story itself is not something I usually find myself interested in and if I had read the premise before watching the episode I probably would have just passed it off as something I wouldn't care for. Yet it was actually pretty interesting. The story follows a young man who just got out of prison, but while in prison he experienced a performance of Rakugo which is basically a type of theater/stage art where the performer kneels and speaks out a story and all the characters in it by themselves. The young man falls in love with the art and the performer (not literally) and the first thing he does when he get's out of prison is use all his money to buy a snazzy suit and get a haircut, managing to track down where that performer is (who is apparently quite renown in his work) and begs to become his apprentice. Surprisingly and randomly the older man who is the artist agrees and let's the boy move in with him, and the story continues. There's more to it of course but why should I spoil it. Anywho, it's an anime about this type of stage performance called Rakugo and it's surprisingly interesting. I can't say the anime's portrayal of the art form made me laugh or enjoy the particular stories that I was hearing as I watched them, but they still weren't bad and it does a decent job of conveying what Rakugo is all about, not to mention there's also a decent story going on at the same time.

Luck & Logic - Judging from the first episode this is definitely a shonen anime and possibly a harem one too. Animation was pretty awesome I thought, though there were some aspects where they used cell shading and it just didn't quite blend well. Even so it was still pretty awesome, lots of flashy fighting going on and everything looked rather fluid. I'd also consider this one a type of fantasy/sci-fi anime. Seems to blend the two together, which is fine by me. I definitely enjoyed what I watched and will be keeping up with this show.

Phantasy Star Online 2 The Animation - Eh, well I figured since I did play the game a slight bit a year or so ago and enjoyed it even though the english patches were wonky and worked when they wanted to, I though I'd check out the anime they are doing for the game. The game is suppose to come out on PS4 (finally being localized) sometime this year.. (forgot the date) I think, so when that happens I will likely play again. The game was really enjoyable, I just couldn't enjoy not really being able to understand things when the game went full Japanese on me. The anime though, not sure. I'll continue to watch it, but it does come off as fairly generic so far.

That's all I've watched and actually enjoyed. The other day when I was looking at new anime shows so much was just not my thing or completely uninteresting concepts to me that I had no desire to check them out, but I'm not done watching anime today.

So far based on thumbnails I think I may still check out the following:

Bukibuki Buranki - No idea what this is about yet, but it's next up to be checked out.

Durarara!!X2 Ketsu - Of course I'll be checking this out, so happy Durarara is returning. Such a great show!

Nurse Witch Komugi-chan R - I don't know if I'll actually continue this, but I'll watch the first episode for a few before I make that determination. Looks overly cutesy, but then.. so did Modoka Magika.

Koyomimonogatari - No idea what it's about, all I see is a cute girl in glasses. I'll watch to see if I like it.

Dimension W - Again, no idea what this is about but the name is intriguing so I'll give it a watch and find out.

Hai to Gensou no Grimar - No idea, but based on thumbnail I see a dude with what looks like a sword on his back. I'll find out.

Schwarzenmarken - No clue, thumbnail depicts a red haired boy and a blonde female. Possibly a romance? Has a German title so... idk, I'll see what it's about.

Saijaku Muhai no Bahamut - Girls, I see 4 in the thumbnail and 6 in the display title. So.. idk, girl power anime lol. If it ends up being an idol-type anime then it's off my to watch list. Hopefully girls kicking lots of ass in combat, that's more my thing. Only one way to find out.

I forgot to mention before I had watched that anime about the candy shop.. forgot what it was called though. Not sure if I'll stick with it but it was amusing to say the least.

As a follow-up to add my thoughts on the first episodes of the anime I listed previously:

Bukibuki Buranki - The story here seems like it might be enjoyable to watch, the animation is entirely cell shaded as far as the characters go and it's quite frankly a step back in my opinion. The animation doesn't come off as that smooth. I mean, sometimes it is decent and sometimes it's painful to watch. That said, I will be continuing this one. It's a.. I guess sci-fi type of anime with what looks like plenty of action. The story itself seems fairly cliche but whatever, that doesn't mean it won't be entertaining.

Nurse Witch Komugi-chan R - Yeah.. no. It was amusing, but no. It's basically a parody anime of Sailormoon/Card Capture Sakura and adds several other anime parodies in there as well. I swear, I watched the first episode of an anime that had almost the exact same "girl running through the streets being cheered on by people as she goes to school" scene as some other anime I watched that much of and stopped. There's a Killer Bee (Naruto) side character, complete with blonde hair and "stylish shades" that talks in rap. Not to mention half the things the monster in this episode changed where characters from other anime (or very similar comparisons), likely done by the same studio or something. This show looks amusing, but in the way that stupid people are sometimes amusing. Passing on this one.

Koyomimonogatari - I... ..I don't know what I just watched. Reading comments from other people leads me to believe that maybe this is some kind of side series of another anime or something. I don't know. I'm confused. Confused at what the episode was trying to convey, and why it was the way it was. Parts were very strange, although the over all tale of what was told was very simplistic. It's visuals are very surreal, like they have deeper meanings, yet the episode itself was quite simplistic. I have no idea who these characters are and the first episode did not really establish very much but a few minor details. I might just watch more of this to see if there is anything else to it, but right now I just don't really get it. The chick was pretty hot though. >.>; Animation was not bad, but there really wasn't anything fluidly moving, most scenes were semi static and the episode it self was only a mere 11-13 minutes long.. which also adds to my confusion.

Dimension W - Pretty awesome start to a Sci-Fi themed slightly futuristic anime. Haven't seen anything quite like this in a while. This one is probably the best I've seen so far this season, but I still have 3 more shows to go. Animation was great, the opening and closing were great. I am really looking forward to the rest of this anime, could be quite the gem of the season. This is one to watch folks.

Hai to Gensou no Grimar - Seems to be another one of those "People get sucked into fantasy game/world" anime. However this one appears to play out less like a game and more like an actual fantasy world setting, with more realistic themes going on. It's obvious from the way the story is being set up the kids in this anime came from a modern Japan but have absolutely no recollection of anything that relates to where they came from. I really like what's going on here. The first episode didn't have a whole lot of action but instead there was a lot of story setup and character building. This one looks like it's going to be really good and I definitely can't wait to see more.

Schwarzenmarken - Interesting anime. This is a mecha anime I believe set somewhere in a WWII timeline (I think) in Germany. At either rate, the setting is that East and West Germany are fighting a war with each other but there are also aliens thrown into the mix which are a threat to all humanity and apparently are rampaging the world as well, including Germany. So.. they are like a 3rd force in this struggle for control of Germany. And then there's this elite unit of mech pilots for which the anime gets it's name. They kill the aliens but also seem to be a well known faction of the military on the East Germany side. Yes.. I did say this is a mecha anime. So it is kind of odd to see mechs in this particular era where generally speaking the technology should be nowhere near this complex. But that's anime for ya, gotta love it. Haha. This show looks like it'll be a good watch, but I would expect a lot of characters to die in it.

Saijaku Muhai no Bahamut - Hmm I'd classify this as a fantasy mecha anime. Yeah, ...that sounds about right. Oh! Plus a harem anime, I can already tell that. There's like 1 male lead character and oh I dunno a whole school's worth of female characters and probably about 10 or so that will be important to the storyline. Decent animation, generic as hell names and similarly generic character models that I've seen several times in other anime. The MC himself is basically the same character model as Bell Cranel from 'Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?'. When I watched the OP I instantly thought, this dude is going to be like Kirito (SAO), the oblivious chick magnet, and I was not mistaken. He even has himself two swords. All in all it still looks like it'll be an interesting anime to watch and I'll definitely continue it despite lack of creativity in names and character models. I mean, for crying out loud the guy's name is Lux Arcadia, how more generic of a fantasy name do you get? lol Oh well.

Today I realized I left out another anime I had watched last week that was among the first set of anime in the new season since episode 2 came out today..

Musaigen no Phantom World - I suppose this could be considered a.. supernatural type of anime, maybe? It's definitely got comedic and fan service aspects covered, and there's action scenes too which aren't half bad. It's about some students that are part of a club that goes around sealing phantoms, which in this world phantoms are now a common occurrence. Not all phantoms are bad/trouble, and normally life just goes on with phantoms coexisting with humans. However there are evil/trouble-causing phantoms that are dealt with and sealed away. In comes the main characters, part of the club that from what I can tell basically deal with trouble making phantoms and minor menaces. Apparently there is actually a government agency that handles the real threats, and it seems like this school club is more of a training group for those individuals than anything else. The show's fun so far, decent watch with maybe a more detailed plot in the works. I'm interested.

Also checked out another anime today that will be joining my already expansive freaking line-up of anime to watch this season.

Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! - A NEET/shut-in leaves his house early one day to get a new game, dies on the way home. Gets taken to afterlife and a rude goddess gives him the chance to go to a fantasy world and bring one thing with him, he chooses her, she's like no nononono but higher beings decide that's okay so poof, they both get thrown into the fantasy parallel world. So basically this ends up being a comedy fantasy anime, but it was a fun watch and has pretty decent animation. I laughed a few times and really can't say anything bad about it. Unlike some of the other fantasy anime this season this one is campy and less serious, but still a fantasy anime where the MC uses his rpg insight to help him out... because that's about all he has lol.

We're watching a lot of the same anime again this season Ecks. I haven't seen Koyomimonogatari, Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo!, or Nurse Witch Komugi-chan R, but I'm watching the rest of them.

I'm also watching Phantasy Star Online 2, which is interesting in that it is just the characters playing the video game, not being trapped in it.

I would skip Nurse Witch Komugi-chan R personally it wasn't that good, but watch it if you want to judge for yourself I suppose. ^^;

Nah, I've got a good sized plate of anime this season, so I'm not looking to pick up anything else unless it's being recommended.

Ah, alrighty. Well I'm dropping Koyomimonogatari as it's just not really that interesting after watching the second episode. Apparently it's one of a series of anime or something, or rather a type of storytelling called Monogatari. Apparently there is a certain order to watching the different series and I'm not going to bother with all that.

The candy shop anime is called Dagashi Kashi, it's pretty funny.

But I do suggest Kono Subarashi, that one was pretty amusing and had good animation.

There's a few more I checked out and will likely continue: Anjin - cell shaded style and sometimes comes off stiff. The subs where I watched it were.... pretty bad, but you can generally guess what was likely said without too much thinking about it.

Also watched Divine Gate - Looks to be a mix of sci-fi and fantasy, partial cell shaded/cgi during some of the anime. I'll be keeping up with it.

It seems in general there are a loooot of anime this season that are going with a 3d cg type of style. Some come across as stiff when they do it others aren't so bad. For example Bukibuki Buranki the first episode left me thinking it wasn't that great a use of the style, but after watching the second episode it seemed a lot more fluid. It actually looks fairly decent and reminds me more of the 2d style even though it's cg. There are some times you can really tell it's cg but they managed a lot of moments that almost didn't feel like it was cg.

I have dropped Divine gate, Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! and Bukibuki Buranki. I was either getting kind of annoyed with the tropes, or the story/characters just weren't that interesting to me.

I actually quite enjoyed Reikenzan Hoshikuzu-tachi no Utage, but apparently no one is bothering to sub it this season. I found a really bad sub for the first two episodes, but I haven't been able to find any more.

Hmm bummer. I've been enjoying Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! (I find it amusing since it is a comedy show, and enjoy the semi simplistic characters) and have been enjoying Bukibuki Buranki a lot more than I had initially. Divine Gate also I find is starting to get more interesting.

Haven't heard of Reikenzan Hoshikuzu-tachi no Utage, what kind of show is it?

Subs for Anjin have been hit or miss it seems, or just close enough. The first episode I watched had pretty bad subs but I could sorta tell what they were trying to convey, since then the subs have been somewhat better but there are still times where a word is used incorrectly or they meant to use a word similar to it that would have made more sense in the translation.

Anjin subs have gotten a lot better. Interesting show.

KonoSuba was quite entertaining, though apparently ended at 10 episodes however they are going to have a second season, so yay.

Divine Gate, all I can say is the pacing in this show is just way too fast and forced. Interesting as it is, the story itself is moving so fast that it's like when someone dies it doesn't feel important or even like it's all that much of a loss because the anime doesn't really connect you with those characters aside from the main 3 (and even they have just meager backstories). I'll continue to watch this one just to see what might happen, but I've gotta say so far it's not an anime I would suggest.

Bukibuki Buranki, is an interesting show. While not many of the characters have fleshed out back stories to help you understand them, they still manage to be interesting characters with their personalities and actions. The show is an interesting visual treat in my opinion. So far I've still been finding it enjoyable. There are of course, some questions about the story that I have, but the show's not finished yet.

Reikenzan Hoshikuzu-tachi no Utage reminds me a bit of hunter x hunter. There's a big competition to become the next trainees for an order of enlightened monks, I guess? They're basically on their way to godhood, and they get new disciples every so often. The main character is very smart, but can be a little cruel to people working under him. I'm not sure where it's ultimately going, since it's so hard to find subs for it.

I have dropped luck & logic. It started out interesting in the main character was fully competent in his role; but quickly devolved into a normal harem.

The spring season has started already, here's what I'm interested in. There's a lot, but I imagine I'm going to get annoyed with several of them and drop them early on like I did last season.

Big Order
Bungou Stray Dogs
Endride
Gakusen Toshi Asterisk season 2
Gyakuten Saiban
Hundred
Joker Game
Kiznaiver
Koutetujou no kabaneri
Magi: Sinbad no Bouken
Seisen Cerberus: Ryuukoku no fatalite
Sousei no Omyouji
Terra Formars season 2
Netoge no Yome wa Onnanoko ja Nai to Omotta
Kyoukai no Rinne season 2

For anyone still slightly interested in Bleach, Kenpachi's Bankai. This chapter. So worth.

Yeah I started watching the Spring season too, not a whole lot yet that I've been impressed with, but I have seen a few that I think will be really good. Though so far, many of them just feel generic or have that feeling of "I've seen this before."

I am really sad that World Trigger is over for now, it was one of those ones I was hoping would just keep going on but apparently they aren't that far behind the manga now. Or rather the manga isn't far enough ahead to make a full season of anime.

Once again you and I are watching a lot of the same shows Baj.

I'm watching/interested in watching:

Gakusen Toshi Asterisk 2nd Season - I enjoyed the first season and am glad it's back. Started out with a great first ep.

Kiznaiver - Not out yet, but looks like it might be interesting.

Endride - Seems like a kind of generic Sci-Fi/Fantasy anime. MC getting transported to a different world and suddenly having some cool ability. It might be decent, not sure just yet.

Boku no Hero Academia - This one looks fun, similar type of setting to One Punch Man, only in this world it's normal for most people to have some kind of special ability/power. Some people use their powers to be Super Heroes as a legitimate profession paid by the government. Unfortunate MC was born with no ability and is as normal as can be but still wants to be a hero.

Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu - Actually haven't watched this one yet. The title has me worried that I should be watching another series first before this one, so if anyone knows otherwise please let me know. It looks like it might be a cool show to watch, but I hate to get into it only to find out there's another anime I should have watched first.

Seisen Cerberus: Ryuukoku no Fatalites - This anime.... it's one of those generic as hell fantasy anime. I mean, it wasn't terrible, but it was just sooooooo predictable in the first episode. I'll likely keep watching it anyway, but it's not on the top of my list this season. In fact, I'd definately place it on the bottom with Endride right above it.

Terra Formars: Revenge - I read a lot of complaints about this after the first episode. I watched it, and while it seems like the animation got crisper, it feels like they decided to make it way more tame than the original series. Which is a crying shame, because that was one of the best things about the first season. The first season had a definite grittiness to it that the first episode of the second season just did not convey at all.

Bungou Stray Dogs - Paranormal Mystery anime. I really enjoyed the first episode. Art style is pretty good in my opinion. Looking forward to the rest of the show.

Hundred - I think I'm going to like this show despite the fact that the whole things is several other anime I've already seen before, dozens of times. Honestly, nothing really new here so far, like at all. Yet the animation looks good, and it looks like it should have some pretty cool fights.

Sousei no Onmyouji - Another supernatural type anime, also looks decent. I'm not really a fan of the whole "shark teeth" type of characters, but whatever. This one looks interesting so I'll continue checking it out.

Netoge no Yome wa Onnanoko ja Nai to Omotta? - Comedy/School/Romance/Ecchi type of show. Though I gotta say, as a mmo gamer the first episode spoke to me and I laughed at a lot of the terms that they used which I'm familiar with. Also, if I could be so lucky as that bastard. lol.... Well, you'll see if you give it a watch.

Koutetsujou no Kabaneri - Oh man, this one may be one of the best this season. Action/Fantasy/Horror/Steampunk even. The animation is top notch. You should just watch this, like now if you haven't already. First episode already sets up the "world" we are introduced to pretty well and I found it really interesting and was able to get into right away. I expect great things from this show.

------

There are more anime that I want to watch that haven't come out yet, so I can't tell if they are ones I'll stick with or not.

Big Order
Ragnastrike Angels
Sinbad no Boken - As far as this show goes, I love it, but considering the trend it's had so far, we're likely just going to get one episode (they've had like 4 so far I think, in the past year+ come out. I assume they are just stalling so that the next season of the Magi anime can be created and probably start up whenever this completely finishes. Speaking of which, I really need to get caught up on the Manga (which I started after the second season of Magi ended).
Kuromukuro
Concrete Revolutio: Choujin Gensou - The Last Song. -I never finished the first season because, like God Eater, it got pulled off the anime site I use to watch anime. Don't know why. I need to watch the first season before getting into this.
Flying Witch - Every so often a slice of life anime can be refreshing and I do enjoy some of them. But one about witches? Count me in. I hope it's a good watch.

And that about wraps up what I will be watching this season, on top of Naruto and Dragon Ball Super.

Update on Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu. I think this is going to be another of the really good anime this season. I really enjoyed the first episode and a half.

----
Update on some others as well:

Kuromukuro - Looks interesting, seems to be a heavy sci-fi mech anime with some fantasy aspects as well. Animation is very well done. I enjoyed the first episode for sure.

Flying Witch - This first episode introduced characters and was hilarious. Loved it.

Kiznaiver - I enjoyed the first episode, and am interested to see what direction this anime takes. I suppose it would fall under... Sci-Fi, I think. There was a lot of talking in the first episode but it all served a purpose to set up the start of this story, and it was entertaining enough to watch.

I'm dropping Cerberus because it's fucking unbearable. I mean, I have watched some anime that have been mediocre and predictable before but this one is just... It's just bad beyond reason in this day and age. The generic cliche meter is off the charts and it's not even remotely entertaining. The main character isn't even a fraction as cool as he thinks he is in his own mind, and I find that very ...unappealing in a main character. I mean he doesn't even come off as funny, just plain pathetic and annoying. If I had more than two thumbs I'd give this anime all my thumbs down. Avoid this one, it's garbage!

Forget about Ragnastrike Angels, it's just going to be a super short 12 "episode" anime, and each episode is just 30 seconds long. The anime is apparently based off of a Japanese game. It's a shame because the promo art for the anime actually looked like it would be cool. But I don't really care for super short episode anime. You can't really have a story in 30 seconds.

I never had high hopes for Onigiri to begin with given the game looks like garbage and caters to preteen anime fans. The anime is about what I expected, each episode is roughly a few minutes in length and pretty much trash unless you happen to be a huge fan of the game. Then maybe it means something.

Big Order looks like a winner. Made by the same people as Mirai Nikki and it already seems to show in the first episode.

Yeah, I'm dropping Cerberus, Endride, and Phoenix Wright already. You're right about Cerberus and Endride, both of them are generic and not very well done. Phoenix wright, I had never played the games, but the first episode just bored me and Phoenix's friend annoyed me too much.

I haven't been able to locate the Sinbad episodes, but I mainly use horrible subs and had honestly forgotten about it.

I haven't gotten to the following yet, I've just been so busy I've hardly had time to watch and I've been focusing on the continuing series that I enjoy over new stuff:

Kiznaiver
Big Order
Kuromukuro
Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu
Terra Formars season 2
Netoge no Yome wa Onnanoko ja Nai to Omotta?
Koutetsujou no Kabaneri
