What Anime/Manga are you Reading/Watching? Part the Second!

Yesterday I got Baccano! in the mail and have so far already watched half the series. It is an amazing and hilariously awesome anime so far.

It's got everything I like: Comedy, Action, Blood and Gore, good storytelling and interesting characters.

And Characters! There are so many characters it's crazy and so cool how their story's intertwine to become this one big story about all of them. Initially when I saw previews for it, I wasn't sure I'd enjoy the anime because of the animation style but it actually works very well and is quite fluid. The fight scenes are some of the coolest non-super-powered fights I've seen in a good while. There still are a few characters that you don't know a whole lot about at this point but there's enough to draw a picture of what they are like.

I laugh pretty good at the antics of Isaac and Miria, they are ...very unique characters, uniquely clueless and genuinely good hearted.. criminals. lol. Sounds like an odd pair, well they are..

I am totally looking foward to finishing this up tomorrow. Already ordered a few more anime, but too tired to remember exactly what it was that I bought right now, though they were definitely good anime's that I was looking foward to buying. Plus they where on the weekly savings dealeo.

Baccano! is a great Anime. Since you enjoyed it you should check out Durarara!! It was written by the same person and has played out rather similarly. It is a very, very smart and well done story up to this point. However, it is currently airing in Japan so to see it right now you'd need to stream it or download it. I'm enjoyin' it a lot more than Baccano! and Baccano! is beast.

HOLY CRAP!!!!! Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn: Episode 1: Day of the Unicorn, OH MY FREAKING GOD THAT WAS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Looks like I have to do a repost.. *sigh*

Lets see.. to recap. I watched the third installement of the Kenichi: The Mightiest Disciple (Season 2, part 1). - Completely fucking awesome. I absolutely love this series and can't wait for the rest of it to get translated and dubbed. Funi's doing great work. I like how that they kept it true to the real name "World's Strongest Disciple" by that becoming Kenichi's new title basically, since that is the real name of the Manga. I just love this series, the martial arts, the story, and the characters. It's all awesome.

I also watched Yozakura Quartet. A subtitled only anime about demons and humans. It was a very short anime, only 12 episodes. But it had a decent little story and interesting characters. My post that got deleted (due to our server time warp) had a lot of info about the anime that I spent time on, but I don't feel like typing out a synopsis of the anime without spoiling the story, again. The anime was good and I suggest to anyone likes a good anime. It's short and it was fairly inexpensive, but well worth the money.

Currently I've begun to watch Sands of Destruction, an anime based on a Nintendo DS game of the same name. So far I've watched the first 7 episodes of this short series (13 episodes) and it hasn't exactly stood out as a series yet. It's not bad, but it's not making me really care about the characters too much. Actually I'd say I'm most intrigued about just one character, the small beastman teddy bear that makes up part of the trio of main characters. He looks all cute and cuddly, lol, but is actually a pretty cool badass. XD I guess that's why I like him, he's such an oxymoron. Everything else seems kind of blandish, like I've seen these characters in other animes, basically. I will say though, if anything, this series has my curiosity about what the game is like. I might actually buy the game, but I've gotta check it out first.

Next on my list is Heroic Age. An anime I've been looking to check out for some time but never wanted to buy that stupid part 1, part 2 bull because it was too expensive. Luckily the whole series is out on blu-ray now and I picked it up for a pretty cheap price considering.

In closing, I just want to say I have fallen in love with RightStuff! That site is so friggen awesome for anime lovers. I don't think I'll get my anime anywhere else from now on, except maybe the occasional Best Buy impulse buy.

^^

I've started watching some more of Rurouni Kenshin, as well as some more of Detective Conan.

Later this year I'm definitely gonna have to continue on Berserk, Hunter X Hunter and Detective Conan manga collections.

Finished up Sands of Destruction a day ago. The story get's a little more interesting on the second half of the series and there's a pretty good little plot twist at the end which I enjoyed. All in all I'd say it wasn't a bad anime, but I wouldn't call it a super awesome must see either. I'm still interested in possibly checking out the DS game.

I'm gonna try to watch Heroic Age this weekend.

I just finished watching Heroic Age on Blu-Ray. To sum it up in just one word: Wow.

This.. this anime was magnificently epic beyond anything I've seen in a while. Granted I have watched some truely awesome anime's that have left me feeling as equally impressed, Heroic Age is well placed among the top animes I have ever watched. I cannot describe how great this anime was to watch. Even in it's beginning it left me with a sense that it would be really epic, and it did not disappoint. I absolutely love anime's like this. It has everything a story needs and a satisfying and wonderful conclusion.

This is definitely one I suggest every anime lover should watch be it via internet, dvd, or Blu-Ray. Though I must suggest Blu-Ray for this anime was most worth it. The sound quality was amazing and it was visually clear and crisp to watch. I don't think I can say anymore about how I feel about Heroic Age. It was a truely beautiful story, animated wonderfully.

Heartcatch Precure...ok ok I love the pretty cure series even if it is grily!

Thanks for sharin' about Heroic age Ecks. Somehow that anime managed to slip past me but I've started watching it and so far it's great.

No problem Strid. So I imagine you've finished it by now, how'd you like it?

I don't have anything to watch but I did just order 3 new (new to me) series should get them in a week or so.

Noein, Saiyuki, and Utawarerumono. You can expect my thoughts on each as I finish them as per usual. :D

I haven't finished it up yet. I decided to finish my 1000GS romps through both Mass Effects and Quantum of Solace so I haven't had much anime time.

I've watched Noein and Utawareumono. Noein is great, I actually went out and bought it and the only other anime I have bought, ever, is Ergo Proxy. Uta is very, very good as well. It'll probably tug at your heart strings a bit if you have any.

A suggestion; after watching Uta I watched Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto. They don't mean anything -together- but the mood was just right coming off Uta to make me enjoy this show a bit more. If that makes any sense. Check it out, it's very good and the music is cool.

Hmm, never heard of it. And yeah, I'm really loving Utawarerumono. So many character interactions and the story seems really nice. Doubt I'll actually watch Bakumatsu anytime soon. But when I finish Uta I'm watching Noein. I hope Uta doesn't make me cry any, but then It's been a while since I had an anime effect me that way, so I kinda welcome that feeling.

Great freaking deal on Uta though, it was the 6 dvd w/ art-box set, so each dvd has an individual big case. Normally would cost about $160 were you to buy it all in stores. $20 on RightStuf. Hells yeah. Some of the dvd's actually still had their Best Buy stickers on them.. lol.. $19-$24 for dvd's individually.

Okay, finished watching Utawarerumono. Fantastic anime with a really nice story and even a pretty good twist at the end. The whole time I watched this series I kept wondering "Why the heck is this named Utawarerumono? What the hell does that mean?" and finally that question was answered in one scene, one line, during the last episode (or perhaps the second to last episode, i can't remember now). Now it makes sense, having watched the whole anime. Great characters, and whats so great about it is how they all interact with each other.. all the time. I still found it funny how everyone, except the angel people, had some kind of animal type body features (ears, tails). Granted even that is explained late in the story as to why it is that way, I still thought it was interesting to see the differences in animal types (tails in particular).

Definitely a good one to watch.

Currently just started Noein, watched the first 5 episodes and then started to enjoy it because it seems like the story is finally moving along. I also realized that I've seen some of this anime before, I guess I probably caught an episode or something a while back on Adult Swim. Thankfully I don't remember too much about that episode since it was likely from near the end of the series. Though I'm still not sure how I'll enjoy this anime. Not particularly a fan of the animation style, but I'll live.

Yeah, it came on the Sci-Fi channel anime block they use to have on Monday nights, I think it was. They use to show Noein and Tactics a lot.

Gerry, the Heroman anime started this season, episode one should already be up at any half decent streamsite.

Well I finished with Noein last night, definitely a good watch and I was right. I had seen parts of it before but I don't think it was on Sci-Fi. Though it could have been, I think they actually showed in on Adult Swim maybe a few years back. Never watched Tactics so I don't really know what that one is like. Noein though, I enjoyed a lot. It was quite good and while at first I didn't like the animation style, it worked out really well for the fighting sequences.

I felt a bit spoiled though, unfortunately the few parts I do recall watching ended up being from the last few episodes so that kind of ruined it a small bit for me. Still though, it was a lot more enjoyable than I had initially perceived it to be.

Now I'm watching Saiyuki. Currently watched the first 5 episodes and am totally disappointed with what I'm seeing so far. I had a friend that really enjoyed this anime so I figured that it would be a decent watch. So far all I'm seeing are half assed fight sequences and I say this because they are so horribly and poorly animated and when the main characters kill an enemy they just like.. vaporize into little square particles. Wtf is this shit? There's hardly any blood and there's enough swearing to make a sailor blush. I don't really mind the cursing so much though since it's kind of amusing, but the thing that bothers me is how over used it all is. The main characters can't seem to talk without having one or two swear words in each sentence. I recognize a few of the voice actors and kind of wonder if this was one of the anime's they must have worked on early in their careers or something.

There are 50 episodes to this anime and I'll watch them all, maybe it gets better as it goes on. Initial thoughts on Saiyuki though are that this anime sucks. It has an interesting world and the story seems like it is actually decent, but so far vital things like fight scenes and dialogue are severely disappointing me.

On the other hand, I saw a preview for a movie they have of the series Saiyuki: Requiem. The animation from the preview looked really good, like the kind of stuff I would expect from at least a decent anime. It looks a lot more fluid that the tv series I'm watching now.

Yeah, I saw the first episode on Crunchyroll. Again, it felt average, but I'm willing to see where it goes.

Edit: By the way, if you want to read some dark comedy manga. Franken Fran!

Just to warn you though, it's really gross at times, but also freaking hilarious.

You better strap in for more than 50 episodes. There are 101 episodes, the movie you mentioned, and 6 OVAs. I tried to get into this a few years back but I just couldn't hold on. Every time they'd put out a new season I'd give it a spin but it never really panned out for me. After the initial 50 Episode run though the writer changed so it may be more to your liking if you enjoy the world and what-not but not the way it is playing out.

Ah, I see. So the second half of the series must be what I've seen floating around labeled Saiyuki: Reload. I wasn't really sure if it was the same or not. I had no idea Saiyuki ran for 101 episodes.

I'm a little more far in now and the battles have gotten better, still I'm just gonna sit tight and see how the story goes.
